    Last night, me, my eldest brother, and our father went for an evening walk with our dog. It has been raining a lot recently, so as a result, the giant palo verde beetles have been emerging and flying about at night and they are a sight to behold. You could almost mistake them for a small bird they're so big and I even heard one buzz by my ear.
    To fly as an insect seems it would feel like a completely different experience than to fly as a bird.

    • @grijzekijker
      @grijzekijker Před měsícem +1

      To me the flight of these beetles looks clumsy and fragile like the first manmade flying machines, whereas birds fly more agile and controlled like today's private jets, Cessna's and Gulfstreams.

    Super video as usual. I just had to watch after seeing a Tiger Beetle taking off in the title frames. I often try to photograph another species of Tiger beetle, with little success, because of the way they can instantly take off as soon as you get too close. Meaning my whole crawl along the ground, was to no avail at all.

    This reminds me of my early childhood. My grandfather showed me how to tie a little string around a June Bug, and let it fly around on the string ^^ we always let them go afterwards, as well as the lightning bugs we'd catch, and put into jars, we were only allowed to keep them for 10 or 15 minutes. I loved life as a child in the mountains of Tennessee.

    I was terrified of insects/spiders/terrestrial arthropods in general all throughout my young adult life until I got in to taxonomy and general sciences in my 30s. I watch videos like these to help me normalize them to myself; I was able to hold a tarantula for the first time last year. Seeing the beetles all hold their arms out while they fly is just so adorable to me lol. Thanks for your videos, man
