They did in fact work it out - remember the first time when the scrumhalf Kobus Reinach ran up ? he just missed by about 5 meters - and he is also a fast guy. So with that having failed but having come close, they chose the man who has a 100m sprint time of 10.7 seconds.
One thing i will say is Springboks do not play boring rugby. It might not be the fast paced, smooth and elegant rugby as a lot of NH teams and ABs but it has worked wonders for them particularly in the right moments.

Spot on about Farrel - he lost it against SA and got 10 meters against him - turning an iffy own-half-penalty kick into a much better certainty kick, which cost them the game.
As always with Sexton they dance around it was obvious he needed to be replaced. But what a decision. !!

The tensing up a bit is part of what makes the game great, Sunday was the greatest game of rugby ever. Saturday was the 2nd greatest. Every pundit, ex player, tv commentator except Brian Moore says SA v Fra was the best game ever.
Nz were down to 14 players for 20mins against Ireland in that game & still won the game 😂😂 4 more years lads 4 more years😂

Being better in defence, plus attack, plus mental calmness, plus better in tactics, makes a team better than the other on the day. Look at the scoreboard.
Imagine two arm wrestlers, equally strong competing. Who wins will them come down to the better tactician, better and higher stamina, better mental strength. Its all put together to rate the complete athlete.
SA was better than any other team because they reached the final and won it. Any team that didn't make the final, was not prepared for the knockout stages. Any team that didn't win the final, was not the best team.
Ireland did choke even if people didn't want to hear it. Sexton missed an easy kick which would have put them in a position to then go for a dropgoal late in the game and not a try...
It was a choke by Ireland.
