  • In collaboration with Top Eleven we look at how a young Ajax side took Europe by storm in 1995. With a young Louis Van Gaal at the helm and a squad packed full of future icons of the game like Van Der Sar, Seedorf, Davids, Kluivert, the De Boer brothers, Rijkaard, Overmars and Kanu, the great Dutch side of the mid-90’s were a real force to be reckoned with.
Peaking in 1995 as they won the Eredivisie and Champions League without losing a game, we ask: was this the coolest team ever?

@@sakketin Not at all boring to watch. The European Cup final was indeed the most boring final in recent memory, but read more about the match and you will see that this was the tactic Red Star's coach told them to play: contain; no counter; only try and score from set pieces or winning a penalty. This tired out that Marseille side who burned out midway through the second half. Legs too heavy to do anything after full time and they lost on penalties. It was a masterclass, a boring one, but a masterclass nonetheless.
Also no idea where you got your information about a bad defense. You can't be champions of Europe with a bad back line.

Don't think so. Ajax team of 2019 had some wildly unreliable, inconsistent players like Veltman and Ziyech (I don't mean they are bad, just that they are unable to maintain a steady level of performance). Plus Dolberg upfront who basically brought Tottenham back into the tie. Ajax 1995 had no such weak spots and benefited from a strong bench as well. If I'm not mistaken they brought on Kanu and Kluivert in the 1995 final.
