    Adding this now after a month of having it. This machine is VERY good. It is ridiculously powerfull, speed 3-4 is more than adequate for most applications. Solid, nice to operate and hold. A huge thumbs up so far.

    After detailing for years and having used everything from the old Cyclo Polisher (still the best IMO for final finishing/jewelling etc) to my Milwaukee rotary and Flex 3401 which I love, I recently bought a Shinemate mini polisher. 12mm offset for added convenience etc. Ruddy love it! These cheap machines are where many top end machines were a few years ago...trickle down tech at its best.

    Well today I put all those hours of watching your beginners guide to machine polishing to good use armed with the In2Detailing DA8 some scholl purple pads and scholl s20 black I set to work on my daughters fiesta (well it wasn’t going to be my S6 😂) the bonnet looked like Someone had used a pan scrub in various places… took my time and did the whole bonnet twice as some of the scuffs were stubborn… probably wanted a cut and refine… but not on my first attempt
    The result was impressive… well to me it was, still some deep marks and what appeared to be sanding marks but you really have to look for them

    I like to use a mixture of Gyeon Prep, 90% IPA and distilled water - about equal parts of each or maybe a bit more water and a bit less IPA and Prep - it works great and is obviously much cheaper than pure Prep spray. They Sent me a replacement that looks like the construction in your video. Black front part white the plate on the back. The one I had was metal sandwiched between the foam and just didn’t last. The new part must be the later version and can’t see that breaking any time soon. Things happen but it’s what the company does next that shows they care. Can never fault in2detaining service.

    Hi Jon, just a quick one on the backing plate. The holes are not for cooling the pads. They are designed for pneumatic DA Sanders that have a built in Central or self generated Vacuum for removal of dust / debris whilst sanding. In no way do they offer any cooling from the motor. All the air from the motor is expelled rearward and not forwards 👌

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      the air is suxed in from the rear Ive just checked this with bits of paper. the fan sits between the shroud and the motor below the latch. the vast majority of air flow though is expelled before the shroud which is unusual (in 4 vents). It feels like theres some airflow coming out between the plate and the shroud though, although inside the shroud it looks sealed off from the main unit. Indeed the shroud has vents inside it and I can feel airflow coming out off this. I suspect the airflow inside the shroud though is mainly generated from the counterweight spinning at high speed but this is expelling air out of the shroud (you can feel it) and if theres holes in the plates then the air will flow through them. I think its for cooling, I can check with the manufacturer if you like.

    Jon brilliant video as always... How do the Flex pads compare to the 3M green pad. Have you ever tried it? I find it’s quality is very high. The other 2 in the package, the Yellow and Blue aren’t as good but the 3M green is top.
    Also maybe it would be a good idea to get a few panels of different car manufacturers, one from a Japanese, French, Italian and German cars and try the different compounds and polishes on them and see which one works the best.
    For German cars I guess you have tried a lot on your BMWs which I also own but for other people which own other cars it would be good advice I think.

    OMG Jon, you are an incredible communicator and teacher, actually, I think it would be more appropriate to call you "The Professor" because professors have a deep knowledge of their subject matter. This allows them to express with confidence that the information they are passing on is due to their background of trial and error that progressed and surpassed into the world of "Textbook" knowledge. And realistically there are a lot of Pro Detailers on CZcams that have the university level of knowledge and experience that allows them to be in the top rank of those who can apply their knowledge in doing awesome detail work, allowing all of us to watch it, but they are not as effective in communicating verbally what is happening in the total context of what we are watching on the channel. In the university or academic world, it is those with Graduate degrees who become Professors with the ability to communicate the full context of what they know to a level that is able to teach all those with undergraduate degrees and below. That is your audience Jon, and we thank you, Professor, for communicating with all of us.

    This is a really informative video, thanks. One question though; once you’ve polished and buffed the whole car, would you wipe it with IPA or a panel wipe before applying wax or ceramic, or is buffing sufficient? Thanks

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 2 měsíci +1

      degrease wipe down is needed for bonding sealaing and ceramics. But most paste waxes it wont make much different, they dont really chemically bond.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 3 lety +4

      Yo Dave
      H9 F6 M3 = abrasives combos
      Purple = Non agressive Cut pad
      Orange = Softer polishing pad
      these are your tools and you start at suitable place.
      So fiesta will be lets say medium paint. very light swirls. I would start orange pads with F6. If you need to step up then purple pads F6. If thats still not cutting it then H9 and purples and finish out with M3 ornage.

    Great review, loving the channel! I was planning on getting a DAS 6 Pro Plus as my 1st machine but after watching this review I'm not too sure now. Would you recommend this over the DAS 6 Pro Plus? Also this machine is significantly cheaper...bonus points.

      yes. your results will be down to you and the DAS6 pro can be used to equal effect. but this machine has more grunt, is cheaper and has an intergrated bail. I get comission if you buy it from my links but in2detailing used to sell the DAS6 pro before the DA8 was around. so either will do mate.

      Ok for max speed I would use F6 and Orange pad. single set polish. I know this combo works great on soft paint. But just buy a purple pad at the same time so you have a means to step up.
      long term you should have H9 F6 M3 available to you. And purple and orange available to you. when you have this you can do virtually everything.

    John . after watching a lot of your excellent videos .. I bit the bullet and got myself a DA8, some pads and Koch Chem (Cut/Polish). You also got me into the Bilt Hamber stuff, Seal and shine .. and the Fusso Coat ! Plan is to correct the paint and protect with Fusso coat soft 99.

    Yet again, such a great video Dave, I will be asking Santa for a polisher this year. A couple of questions, I do have a Dewalt battery and charger, would you recommend a cordless one of these ahead of the DA8, however price will be maybe £70 more. And lastly, on a 30 year old german black car, which has had a lot of paint, and many swirls! will a two or three stage polish be necessary.
    Keep up the great work, thumbs up

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 3 lety

      so if you go cordless you pay more, and you have to round robin batteries. But the Dewalt cordless is very capable. I dont want to say too much but my review of the DW cordless tools is coming soon and it looks at these offerings in detail so hold fire I would until you have watched this.
      hard german paint. Ok first up compound, and finishing, and ultra refining, is 3 stage. Dont confuse stages with sets. so I could do 3 sets of compounds, and 2 sets of finishing, 1 jets of ultra fine jewling or refining. thats a 3 stage polish.
      So you do the extra stage when you really want to max out gloss, maybe on a high end valuable car or maybe just because you are crazy or its a show car etc.. the etc ultra fine refinement is a lot of extra time for time gains. So Cut your hard black german paint untill you are happy with the swirl level and then refine it untill you are happy with the pure sharp reflection marring free finish... aim to minimise compounding sets if you can.

      @@ForensicDetailing Thank you Dave for your quick and helpful reply. I will hold fire on the machine, as did see the Dewalt hanging up on your tool rack on the video. Can you answer a question please?
    When it comes to reapplying a wax,in 3/4 months time,can I just apply wax after a wash and dry or should I use chemical de contamination products then panel wipe,then wax.
    I haven't mentioned a clay bar as I'm under the impression you should only clay if you are going to machine polish afterwards.
    Thanks.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 3 lety

      hey craig. you can just wash and dry and apply wax. or you can whizz over the car with like a AIO to remove and old residue of wax and give the surface a gentle buff up and prepare it for the wax or just let the wax in the AIO do the work. you dont want to be doing paint correction all the time.. but I love whizzing over the car with a light AIO glaze and a wax.

      hey there Shaun. you have to clean them properly at the end of each day, dont throw them untill the surface starts crumbling up and disintergrating. take tooth brush, squirt come APC on the face work with brush, then blast the surface with a garden hose and it will flush all the polish out.. when clean sandwich in a thich clean drying towel and press to suck up all the water so they feel 99% dry.. put in airing cupboard to full dry.
