I play on the ROG Ally and most the time I have it docked with the XG Mobile 3080. I know it's expensive but personally I think it's worth it for my use case. I got the 3080 on sale for $1000 at Best Buy on Black Friday. For a benchmark I was playing Lied of P on a 4k monitor scaled back to 1440p and getting 30-40 FPS without XG mobile. Excellent number but when I added the XG 3080? 144 FPS which is the cap for the screen over Display Port. So for $1700 total I have a full blown mid ranged PC that's a handheld I can pack into a small bag and go. Amazing. Plus I gained a lot of I/O - 4 USB ports, HDMI, DP, Hard wire RJ45 jack, etc.

Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives, especially those that relocated and even bought new homes during the peak of covid when Lenovo asked for their dedication to support and grow the business. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.

    Good comparison!
I was leaning very hard in favor of the rog ally, but I ended up going for the legion go.
For my specific need (hybrid gaming pc to replace my old desktop + maybe some remote play ps5 on my couch) it seemed like the best option.
Main reasons vs asus : mostly due to the proprietary slot on the asus limiting my options for egpus in desktop mode for which legion's USB4 offers a better solution + the touchpad works for ps5 remote play
Main reason vs deck : I want windows on my desktop pc

Loved the comparison of the three MashIT as always great video don’t like the software and some of the hardware with the ROG Ally the issues with the SD card slot everyone has been complaining about and it doesn’t seem to be compatible with the Shargeek power banks for example the Storm 2 100w as it’s to do with Asus buggy software and the ROG Ally just seems inferior to the Steam Deck OLED and the Lenovo Legion Go so I’m currently stuck between these two loved your video and comparison!

It really depends on what you want to play. Legion go has full compatibility steam deck(without windows installed) doesnt. Personally I like the SD because it feels like an actual console and it has great support by Valve. On top of that, you *can* install windows on it and dual boot it and it works pretty well too.

    • @Azhalan
      @Azhalan Před 4 měsíci

Compatability is quite a huge factor in my opinon. You can't easily transfer games, updates etc from the deck to your PC because it runs on Linux. And while Windows certainly isn't the best OS for handheld devices, it makes the Ally and the Legion act as just another PC with way easier file transfer.

I game on the Go while plugged into an outlet 100% of the time and am blown away at how snappy it is. It boots up fast, and I have yet to experience a crash/ freeze, which is amazing to me. I've played multiple Assassin's Creed games, Horizon Zero Dawn, Rocket League and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Not one single crash on this beautiful screen. As much as I want one of these, the end game is GTA 6 while laying in bed and even though the Lenovo and ASUS might be able to handle it on low settings in a year or 2, I really want the polish and continued support valve offers. @gelul12 That's alright. I'm patient. I'd rather just stick with my vita and 3ds for a while rather than blow my money on a handheld that's now severally under powered compared to what it's competitors are pushing out. I think valve is going to push a SD2 faster than you think. With Lenovo and ASUS pushing way more horsepower during a next gen changeover, i think valve knows time is money. Not to mention, I would almost garuntee with GTA 6 a year or so away, they will want people playing this most likely record breaking game on THEIR hand-held and the legion and Ally might have the power to do it on low settings meanwhile, the current steam deck doesn't have a chance in hell and valve knows this. Don't think for a second that the SD2 is currently tabled just because of a model with a better screen and battery life.

The main issues your going to have with the Steam Deck is if you play games with Ricochet or Deep-Level Anti-Cheat which is mostly Modern Call of Duty Games & Fortnite. There are a few games that just don't run well on the Steam Deck like Cities Skylines 2 or Starfield "But that game barely works on new PCs anyway". Steam has a "Verified" system on how well a game will work on your system. From my experience, you can get just about everything working on the Steam Deck as long as it doesn't have deep anti-cheat systems. Even RCT1 works on my Steam Deck using Desktop mode and Proton. I play a lot of Dolphin Emulation on my Steam Deck as well. Even got the GOG version of Balders Gate 3 to run flawlessly on my Steam Deck "though it took some work in desktop mode".

    My conclusions is the following:
-if you want to simply play games in bed or in the office, train, nature, etc.; Steam Deck is the best choice
-if you want to play games as well as do other things like checking e-mails and such then Legion GO is the perfect choice
-and if you want something like the Legion GO but a little more focused on the game side then choose the Ally
I personally like all of them, there is no obvious choice as what's the best one, they all fulfill the role they're meant to fulfill. I'd choose the Steam Deck because I'm only interested in the gaming side and being as portable as possible, especially with long battery life, too bad it doesn't have the Legion GO's mouse switch feature yet

Got both Ally and Go. In fact very excited to get Go for its larger screen size despite being happy with Ally overall but I'm mighty disappointed in Go. The experience is very choppy. The software is so bad and under thought and I constantly run in to issues with display scaling, stuttering, freezing and even crashing at times. Ally at this point is very mature, has a lot of options for handheld gaming built in and just work. Legion space is a joke compared to Armory Crate, I eoubt if that interface is developed by an actual engineer who understands the usecase of the device. Its not even worth having its own name. And I dont buy the excuses that Ally took time to mature and Lenovo needs time too. 1) The time they took ao far resulted in very little. 2) They have 2md or 3rd mover (depending on how you see it) advantage of knowing much better what kind of issues they need to pay attention when releasing a mass market handheld based on what Steam Deck and ROG Ally went through. They didn't even fix the dead zone issue yet which is a major user experience issue that wouldn't take a whole lot of effort for them to fix which doesn't inspire confidence. And not having a VRR screen is something that can't be fixed in hardware. The higher the delta between refresh rate and actual fps, the more tearing and choppiness you perceive. And Go is the worst case scenario with 144Hz screen mostly playing 40-50fps. I juat wish Ally had an inch bigger screen

Asus already had issues with SD cards being burnt to a crisp, and the Switch has shown how unreliable the removable controllers can be, wiggling and wobbling after a while. Not only that, but you have two more batteries you have to worry about bulging. Steam Decks battery isn't any easier to remove with all the adhesive, and the OLED has been reported to have dead pixels and mushy dpads, which I have only experienced the latter. I'd recommend the Deck, but if you're not into tinkering, just get one of the Windows handhelds. Don't go for the Ayaneo, GPD, etc, they throw up devices like crazy, support can't be a strong point for them.
