This man is definitely one of my idols to this very day, what people didn't emphasize about Mahmoud is that he didn't want to stand for something he felt didn't stand for him and people like him, especially black men and women. No, even in 2023, the US is TRULY NOT the land of the free and the home of the brave. Yes, he was an incredible basketball player, but that pales in comparison to the quality of man he was and still is. Much love, Mahmoud, all praise be to Allah. Continue to be the progressive individual you are, the struggle continues, it's far from over.

I used to collect basketball cards as a kid in the 90s. Before the internet, there was hardly any news here in Germany about the NBA and I remember holding a Denver Nuggets Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf card in my hands. As a child of Turkish immigrants in Germany, I was amazed that there were Black Americans with muslim names like mine in the Be-like-Mike era (aside from Muhammad Ali). That basketball card was the reason why I started looking into the history of Black Americans (Especially their cultural emancipation from "White America") and still do to this day.
I am so happy to see that this Man gets his flowers now. Such an inspirational Person!

It was mind popping what he brought to basketball when he hit college. The double crossover and pull up after passing half court, he did that every game. The Steph before Steph chatter is 100% accurate, difference being Mahmoud pulled up off the dribble more so than coming off screens.. I loved the Stand doc though, because his experience was finally brought to the screen and I had totally forgot how he brought awareness to tourettes. Flowers well overdue. Thanks fellas!
