I think “boy pretty” is just the standards, while “girl pretty” celebrates everyone’s unique features instead of putting them down for not being like the copy and paste beauty standards, this has especially been the case since looksmaxxing and how everyone boy or girl has been pressured to fitting a very specific mold, they don’t let beauty be subjective and don’t want variety
i think wath's important to note too is that girls and gays and people who like being "pretty" knows the work that goes into it, for exemple if a girl is wearing noticible makeup man will say "you're pretty' or something about their beauty while girls will more so compliment the makeup in itself and maybe her beauty

I think so too and i think women since theyre women too they see women more as friends even wlw women first before romantically most of the time, speaking as a bi afab person whos fem. I find that men like more “natural” and neotenous faces, with a curvy body.
From what I’ve seen in the “Female gaze”, there’s an appreciation for some amount of masculinity in the face. A masculine-feminine face and thin body.
They prefer sharper eyes, sharper stronger features, etc.
This is veeyyyy true. For a long time I was wondering why I wasn’t able to attract more feminine women into my life. I’ve always attracted a lot of masculine energy from men and more masc. women.
I have a chubbier face with softer features. Ironically, the women I was drawn to were always petite in the body with androgynous facial features. And they always had a lot of female friends around them too.

I had this thought for a while about male pretty and female pretty. Most of the men prefer the male pretty as male pretty sort of conveys the woman as soft, feminine and vulnerable. While, the female pretty is more about confidence, boldness and just wearing and doing what you want. Most men don't like it when a woman seems bold and confident as it makes him feel intimidated and small. tbh, most men are so bothered when a girl is feeling herself (I've had this experience a lot of times and men simply cannot mind their own business :D as they think we do a lot of things for their attention only)

i kinda disagree with your female pretty definition tbh. Theres a lot of women celebs out there who are soft, feminine and vulnerable and they are considered girl pretty. At this point, girl pretty just seems to be about who has the kindest personality, doesnt matter if they are confident or not.
This is super accurate. That's like when I dress edgy and alternative. I receive more of a positive response from women than men moreso to the point where I would attract them physically-- Versus dressing "normal" and cutesy I receive more of a positive response from men. I could dress feminine in both styles and it'll still attract the same sort of attention. It's like men like the girl next door kind of look and us women tend to gravitate toward the more creative and bold looks even if they don't personally dress like it and sometimes that's actually out of fear. Although I have many styles, I earned to switch up between both though to get what I want from men lmao.

a good example i can think of is sydney sweeney vs alexa demie in euphoria. most men prefer sydney while alexa is a huge "it girl" and style icon among the girlies. not that they don't find her attractive too but she is more popular among the girls.

Nah, Bella is girl pretty. Most men that I know don't think shes attractive, its women I see on social media harping about how hot she is and that they want to look like her. I've seen posts on reddit where Bella is also categorized in the female gaze category as well. So Chi Chi is right here.
Also women have also chimed in on those posts to say their bfs prefer GiGi and think Bella looks odd etc.

a lot of straight men think Bella’s too skinny and that her face is alien like/gaunt. all of the “girl pretty” women are conventionally attractive but they’re not the types that straight men usually list as the prettiest/hottest women in hollywood.
Yeah i also prefer your normal makeup but I've also learned that hairstyle plays a big role in whether i like my own make up or not so maybe the female pretty would eat harder with braids or something

You know what’s interesting is that there’s no guy version of this that’s really talked about. But it’s so obvious that men look up to more muscled men in general like the rock while women seem to GENERALLY be attracted to all kinds of guys.
Interesting how ‘boy pretty’ basically just equates to being marketable whereas girl pretty is more emotion and personality driven and imo girl pretty just means people who are a bit different from what you see all the time e.g. Tim chalamet-while we see his face everywhere now, many people STILL get pressed about others finding him attractive and it’s shocking to people that he’s dating the very conventionally attractive kylie Jenner bc she seems basic and he doesn’t. An observation I thought I'd add is that "boy pretty" imo also has to have some level of cuteness as boys prefer girls that look approachable and less "high-maintenance", whereas "girl pretty" very much carries a certain confidence in your uniqueness (thus coming across more "cool".) One example that shows this is looking at the difference in female k-pop idols with the most male fans vs female fans!! Cheers! 🎊

I think boy pretty is more natural and makes you look more approachable and less "intimidating" and "low maintainence" cuz u look more laid back and natural while girl pretty is more fashionable and artistic with design elements that makes one look like a walking art piece. I think the difference is one is more universal and ig "normal" so approachable and friendly while being aspiration and one is just aspiration in how confident and cool one is.

Recently, I’ve hung out with friends and one of them brought up this concept, but I didn’t know what it was. She said, “Do you think you’re boy pretty or girl pretty?” I responded with boy pretty but the reason I did was because I thought it meant that you were seen more masculine than feminine, or less “attractive” in a way. Obviously, I was wrong. So this video popping up definitely helped me understand it better, and I thank you. I am girl pretty, and I’m fine with it. 💪💪
ive had guys tell me "youre so pretty and you don't even wear makeup. do you never wear makeup? / do you notmlike makeup?" with my full face of "everyday natural makeup" I'm like yeah.. whats makeup.
i never find "boy pretty" to be the conventionally attractive type but almost always the "girl next door" look. everyone can acknowledge that madison beer is attractive but in a realistic setting, a man is less likely to pursue madison beer because of how beautiful she is. instead, he is interested in the "natural, more grounded girl next door" whose beauty is approachable. a girl like madison beer is more likely to get complimented by women than men. men will like her, but from afar.
cultural values also play a part in this (correct me if i am wrong). american men seem to be more into the approachable girl with a smile on her face who is low maintenance and dresses comfortable. arab men are more likely to be into the high maintenance girl. song ji-a (south korean influencer) was extremely popular among men and viewers in the first season of single's inferno (dating show) but she also comes off as a very high maintenance person. someone like her may not have been as popular in an american dating show because of how high maintenance she comes off as but in a country like south korea, where people praise such traits, she becomes very popular with the guys.
the "unique feature" thing is not necessarily girl pretty because women are not a monolith. and wrt beauty standards, i think women care about it more because men don't really understand nuances based on appearances all that much.
i agree with you. Culture impacts a lot. Certain cultures also value and praise particular traits. E.g., some places like it when women are bubbly, out going and cute. Other places value a woman who is poised, quiet and calm.

As a woman, why do I inssticntly feel like I can just talk with the second makeup look, and she'll get me and vice versa. The first one makes me feel almost like she just wants to put me in my place or something. Both are extremely gorgeous btw, and this is probably just a me thing from years of being bullied by glam girls, but idk. I didn't realize makeup held so much power even in such subtle ways.
I used to think that way until I became friends with a more girly glam girl & she was the sweetest person ever. 😊 We were in like 5th/6th grade
I have the exact opposite, girls who dress for conventional beauty standards scare me, but thats just cause of my personal experience. Usually they're the ones who bully others cause insecurity.

I took the comment of the OP in such a way because she was literally basing her outfits on what women/men find attractive. I suggested that she would wear something that she feels attractive in but FOR HER. Not for the men and women on the street, but for her. I can't get the whole idea if she actually dresses up for herself or not but I wrote as I understood it, and on that comment alone.

When I was watching gossip girl I thought that Serena was more boy pretty and Blair was more girl pretty (in my opinion obvi) and it was definitely interesting to see this and compare what I orignally thought
I think you are taking their personalities into account bcuz Blair def looks cuter (esp with low / no makeup) while Serena has fem fatale features. In the series Serena was made more approachable and has carefree boyish charms while Blair was the IT girl ✨

Elmers purple glue stick down your brows and use a spoolie to lay them flat. Do about 2-3 coats letting the previous one dry first. Use a cool blow dryer to speed up the drying. The use a full coverage foundation or concealer over them and powder liberally. Its wont look so oatmealy. Drag 101.

I love it when people do their makeup so out in the wild I would compliment you either way!! Though I do think the execution for the Girl Pretty brows could have been different it's not something you have experience with and the effort still was pretty in the end!
idkk, its so weird that "girl pretty" means doing a certain makeup style that isnt "natural" and different from the "normalised" style of makeup, but boy pretty is having a makeup look that "isnt noticeable". i feel like this depends on the guys u talk with - guys who talk/have dated a lot of girls would know when someone is wearing a full face of makeup, and i dont think guys wont go for a girl just because she has colour on her face

i do think the looks are beautiful but a little similar lol i’ve grown up w no brows (born without- very very light) so the no brows trend was my everyday look since birth really lol so i do think the differences in the girl makeup should be a little more drastic, no hate! LOVE THIS VIDEO!! and both looks are stunning!!
For drag makeup most use glue (glue stick) to start and block out the brows, so funny you tought of it by coincidence. Also girl makeup darling you are stunning! So beautiful (both with or without of course). You should do more experimentation with makeup… maybe lip combos??

In my opinion for me boy pretty is the “common beauty” or the “standards of a pretty girl”, just like you said but girl pretty for me is when a girl isn’t “2024” standard but instead shines because of something in her making her stand out, per examples- actor from little mermaid, Anne, Bella hadid, for me it’s being able to be pretty while still being yourself and not being influenced by society. Someone who can shine without the switch..

This is a nice video but can we please stop this “pretty pretty” and “girl pretty” trend? Anyone who thinks to themselves that they are beautiful is beautiful. Even if you don't think that way about yourself, God sees you that way.
I don't know why social media comes up with a new trend everyday to alter beauty standards and try to make people feel insecure about themselves.
Interesting take though i don't think it's accurate. As a woman who dates women, I would say people value beauty based on utility. I think "boy pretty" applies to sex appeal. sexy / sex appeal (physique is more important than facial beauty, and traditional symmetrical beauty is not necessarily as appreciated as sex appeal/general attractiveness) This is because the utility in this case is sex/procreation. I think that "Girl Pretty" is about admiration. The utility and value for more women is imitation. So because most women are not seeking sex from another women, they will appreciate the beauty (facial symmetry) and inner beauty far more. hence why overweight women is still admired by women.
Also men and women want different things down to our biological core Our Biological instincts govern our standards of beauty. Women seek protection and security because being pregnant and raising a child requires that. so women will value inner beauty initially, On a biological level men are hardwired to spread their seed, and traditionally didn't have to deal with the burdens and responsibility of child rearing. They selected mates based on physical beauty. in modern times men overprocreating will come with big consquences. but its still not as life changing as women's consequences. This is why in my opinion it takes men more life experience to realize the power of inner beauty.

To be honest i think a button nose it more noticeable due to the lack of a defined nose bridge. I have one naturally and the bridge between the tip of my nose and my forehead is literally nonexistent, i dont get any natural highlights there either. My face looks like as a simple face drawing with just the nostrils and stuff defined. Thats one thing that i think people imitating the look dont get as easily. Use an artists eye to really pick up on the detail. Removing the dark Contour on the sides of your nose would make it look more like a button nose
