How often do you wash your locs?
I wash them about once a month ... sometimes I go over a few weeks or a month 😂 ....... but my goal is once a month, or once every month 1/2.
I also now only use the rose water, and then my Shea Moisture bamboo charcoal deep cleansing shampoo. The first shampoo does the clarifying I need, and the second one leaves my hair so soft and moisturized.
You just learn new thinhs about your crown and what works best for you both along the way. Simple is perfect for me, especially since I use no oils in my hair (other then the few drops of essential oil in my aloe vera juice).

Hi luv. I just wrote you an essay on your other comment! 😅 I think it will also help answer this question.
The #1 tip I can share, however, is ... patience is KEY! (I know, not such a fun topic right?! Haha) Especially if you are going to freeform ... your hair will literally do all the work for you, and surprise you almost every month or even week in how it's changing.
I LOVE the process of freeforming and would love to watch a time lapsed video of a freeformer's loc journey (that would be just so satisfying to me😌!)
Another tip would be to keep your locs moisturized! czcams.com/video/34S2K-Dkjr8/video.html, rose water and aloe vera are go to's! More so aloe very these days (it's cheaper, and I LOVE mixing a couple drops of either lavender or rosemary in my mister for a wonderful, fresh, mother earth sent ... plus the wonderful benefits). Some people think when you freeform you don't have to do ANYTHING, but you still have to water your crown for it to be at it's healthieststate (drink lots of water and mist the locs).
Also, I've been doing water rinses in between my wash day (i wash once a month) and my locs have been LOVING it! So it depends, but I "water" my locs about 4 times a month (like 2-3 water rinses when I'd like a little extra moisture or just want to bless my head and crown, and 1 wash with shampoo).
Oh, lastly ... I would avoid using conditioner. Their are natural things that can condition your hair such as aloe leaf, rose water with Glycerin, certain shampoos. This is a bit of a controversy in the loc community ... but freeform locs tend to be on the thicker side (not always) and so if not washed out veeery thoroughly, the conditioner could cause buuld up. LESS IS MORE my friend, and your crown will thabm you! And less work for you as well! lol

I love how your locs got thick! My texture is different but I’m really hoping my locs plump up. My only concern about semi free forming is I’d prefer not to have flat locs. My hair compresses easily so I do lightly palm roll. Blessings.

I've seen others complain, saying the smell is too strong or smells like strong incense ... but I LOVE IT! Lol Just goes to show you how people can feel strongly about something, yet have different opinions.
I read somewhere that companies discontinue things because its not selling well, or to make a "better version." I haven't tried the new version, but reading reviews, seems like people miss the old one. And sellers will take discontinued products and sell them for $$$ because they know people want them lol
