    Thank you for these tips. I’m trying to watch as many videos as I can before I try rooting. This video helps. I did wonder if you cut the hair as you root. It appears so neat.

    • @AlzsNursery
      @AlzsNursery  Před rokem

      Sorry for the delay getting back to you. A good needle that’s pretty compatible with multiple types and styles would be a 42g crown;) (I wouldn’t start with one barb) if your just starting out a three Barb will be the easiest;)

      Hi Desirea:) I use Southern Charm. They have beautiful and good quality hair. I personally look for someone who can get their mohair directly from the farmers or have a farm themselves. Make sure the hair is dyed only using acid dyes. Human hair dye will not hold up. Also I like to make sure the hair is clean and well packaged;)

    Do you put something over her eyelashes before you bake last time?

    • @AlzsNursery
      @AlzsNursery  Před 2 lety

      Great question, not necessarily. I do however wet the lashes. If you find your lashes drying out to quickly, you can use a slightly damp cotton ball over the eyes/lashes;)

      Once I’ve finished rooting the baby, I will apply a sealer to the inside of the head. Rotating the head, coating it really well. Letting it dry completely before assembling;)

    Have you ever used human hair? I heard it works well for toddlers but not newborns. I’d really like to use it but don’t want to waste my time if it won’t work.

    • @AlzsNursery
      @AlzsNursery  Před rokem +1

      I have tried it but honestly it’s not my favorite to work with and doesn’t look natural on any sculpts that are not toddler or older;) Definitely not for newborns. My favorite to work with is yearly mohair;) Just make sure to get high quality hair. 😊

    How come I can't turn my 10 inch reborn head out , it's way to difficult, I ruined 1 doll head already. I can't get the eyes in at all. Can you suggest something. She was already painted. I was thinking of putting her eyes in before I paint is this possible?

    • @AlzsNursery
      @AlzsNursery  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say, “inside out”?
      As for the eyes, I invested in a Kemper eye setting tool. It’s been an absolute life savor! Here is a link where you can find one. dollssoreal.com/products/doll-eye-setting-tool-kemper
      If your eyes are glass, yes, you can paint with them in. You won’t need to do anything specific for heatset. But, if you’re doing air dry, put puddy over the eyes to prevent the paint from getting all over the eyes. If they are not glass, I wouldn’t recommend leaving them in, if you paint with heat set.
      Hope this helps! 😉😁

    • @MelodyVillwock
      @MelodyVillwock Před 3 měsíci

      ONE MORE THING, IM THINKING AFTER IT WAS PAINTED THE HEAD WAS HARDER THIS IS WHY I PROBABLY COULDN'T TURN IT INSIDE OUT TO PUT THE EYES IN. IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD COVER THE EYES WITH SO I DON'T GET THE EYES ALL MESSED UP WHILE PAINTING? THANKS SO MUCH! I LOVE YOUR WORK, TERRIFIC WORK!

    • @MelodyVillwock
      @MelodyVillwock Před 3 měsíci +1

      SORRY, BY INSIDE-OUT I MEAN, PUTTING MY FINGERS INSIDE THE DOLL AND TRING TO POKE THE EYES FROM THE INSIDE-OUT

    • @AlzsNursery
      @AlzsNursery  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think I understand;) I don’t turn the head inside out. Honestly I wouldn’t know that one.
      I will insert the eyes either through the front of the eye socket (after heating the head. Makes it a lot easier to manipulate the vinyl to get the eyes in) or from the inside of the head. I’ll cut slits in the back side of the eye socket to insert the eyes from the inside. Hopefully that makes sense. If you don’t use heat, you can use a warmed rice sock;)
      If you put tacky putty over the eye you can easily peel it off when done painting;)
