    You are FANTASTIC...I was hurt overseas while I was working as a Linguistic Translator several years ago. My life changed so much. When I came home in 2011, in a wheelchair, I first noticed reborn dolls around 2014. I bought a doll sculpt by Natalie Blick, but never felt I was good enough to reborn. The sculpt ended up staying in the box and being pushed to the back of a shelf. I went on to have my much needed operations in order to be able to walk again.
    Looking for something, I found the forgotten sculpt. I really wanted to make the doll as she is a limited edition doll by Blick called Mihrimah. So not being as mobile as I was once, although I am at least no longer in a wheelchair or walking with aids due to a wonderful Doctor, I went on the search for someone to explain re-borning to me. Your videos are just amazing. I was a linguistic professor, before being hurt, and know how difficult explaining something in person, let alone through social media can be. You are just the best. I also appreciate the way you share all your little tricks and secrets in helping us understand.
    I am ready for the first of the year. I plan on buying my paints and needed items, also so well explained by yourself, and getting started as soon as the Christmas things come down and get put away. I know Mihrimah is more than ready to become a real baby. She has much to long been in a box. I am hoping to make her of Arab-American complexion. There are photos of her in a blue dress from the people I ordered her from and the skin color she has in those photos is the dark olive rose I was hoping to reproduce. In fact her name is one of a famous woman from Turkey. Could you please give me any idea of the best skin color paint I might use to achieve an Arab complexion. My children are in fact American-Arab. My grandmother and mother was from Sicily and my children's father is from North Africa. He is a Libyan. As babies, my children had a beautiful darker olive rosy complexion.
    Also Mihrimah is going to need a 20 inch body. The one they sent I think is a mistake. It looks much too small and has jointed arms and legs, and it also has strings for ties. The sculpt has three quarter arms and full legs. Try as hard as I can, I cannot get the arms to fit into those arm holes. It seems there is not enough material. The body itself does not look like it would take much stuffing, at least for a 20 inch doll and it is not made from doe skin, but rather from just cloth. I understand that a jointed body would give Mihrimah more pose, but this thing seems like it will make her also to feel hard where the joints are. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on what might be the best possible body suit for the Mihrimah sculpt.
    Right now I am just getting ready to setup and do the best job I can in creating Mihrimah, and I wanted you to know that only because of your videos which helps to build so much self confidence in the quest am I actually able to begin. Thank you so so much for helping me to fill up my days with something so creative and giving me something to look forward to doing. Not in a very long time have I been so excited about having something to do where I do not have to be so mobile to do it. And again, if you have any ideas of how I could best come up with a more Arab looking skin tone or the best body for Mihrimah, I would greatly appreciate you letting me know. Thank You and God Bless You and All the Good Things You Bring to All of Us.

    Can you please tell me what size needle you're using? And is it necessary to draw the brows first before rooting? Can you actually see the drawn part once the hair has been added, or did you use the drawn brow just as a guide? Thank You :)

    • @Customdollbabycom
      @Customdollbabycom  Před 8 lety

      +Gypsy Noire I'm using a 42g crown. The size needle appropriate for your project will depend on the kind of hair you are using: customdollbaby.com/reborn-doll-artist-tips/rooting-103-assessing-your-needle-needs The smaller the better for eyebrows.
      I like being able to see the painted brows under the rooted brows because that allows you to root fewer strands and still have eyebrows that look filled in. At a minimum, painting a guide is important. Eyebrows that aren't in the right place or aren't symmetric really throw off the face of an otherwise beautiful doll. Thanks!

      @Customdollbabycom  Před 8 lety

      You don't have to wet the rice or the sock when you heat it. Just put a glass of water in the microwave with it and the rice will absorb the heat and some of the steam. But it shouldn't be cooking the rice. :) I'd heat for 1-2 minutes at a time and shake it up between cycles until its as hot as you like. If it is burning your hands, its too hot. The right temperature will feel good when you set it on your neck and shoulders (which I love to do when I'm sore!) LOL Forgot to mention there's a short sock demo here: czcams.com/video/v2t0X5RQ3XM/video.html :)

      I do, because it helps me determine where to place the brow before I root it. Once you start poking holes, it's hard to go back and change it. It also adds depth to the brow, so I don't have to root so much hair that it looks bushy. If you don't want to paint the brow, you can try pencil or something temporary like a water soluble marking pencil or chalk to make sure the placement is right before you root.

    Can you straighten mohair or is it human?...do you prefer human or mohair to root with?...is it harder rooting with human?😉

      +stella live your life Great question! You can straighten mohair, just like you can human hair. I always use mohair on my eyebrows because it is so fine. But I like to root human hairdos on my toddlers.
      I can root human hair faster because the hair diameter is more than double that of mohair. I can see it more easily and I'm less likely to get tangled up in it. :) But its too thick for eyebrows. If you feel like nerding-out with me, there's a lot of info about hair-diameters on my website (LOL): customdollbaby.com/3/post/2015/12/rooting-103-assessing-your-needle-needs.html

      Lol....I've just made my first reborn..(rosebud)...I have human hair to hand in my home already(hair extension crazy I am)...and the mohair I seem to be seeing lots off online all has a red cast on it....I'm looking for something more of a dark brown...not reddish...so should I try human hair?😉

      I have a lot of different dark browns in mohair and human hair. Maybe you'd like to try them out? ;) mkt.com/customdollbaby-dot-com/hair-texture-sampler
      The OOAK Mohair is pretty robust brown, but its very curly and wavy if you don't mind the texture: macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/hair-rooting/ooak-mohair/mohair-dark-brown-detail Ruby Red has the red tint you mentioned.

    can you bake once you've glued the inside?

    • @Customdollbabycom
      @Customdollbabycom  Před 7 lety +1

      If you used Gem Tac, you can, but the heat will reactivate the glue. So, if there is something in the head (stuffing, etc...) that'll get stuck to the glue when it gets hot. I don't know the heat tolerance for other brands of glue.

    I'm afraid to put my baby in the oven! Won't she melt???

    • @Customdollbabycom
      @Customdollbabycom  Před 7 lety

      Turns out, your baby was born in an oven. LOL Vinyl dolls are cast from liquid in very hot metal molds, so she's no stranger to heat. She'll do just fine as long as you keep her far away from the heating elements and make sure your oven does not get hotter than 275-degrees-Fahrenheit. I have more information on ovens and curing on my website: customdollbaby.com/reborn-doll-artist-tips/category/ovens-for-reborning
