Help for the Visually Impaired. What's Available Now?

This video is the first of a series that I am presenting on Facebook Live. It introduces the video series, defines low vision and legal blindness and is an invitation to the next Facebook Live Video. The information in these videos will be especially helpful to people with Macular Degeneration, Stargardt Disease, Diabetic Retinopathy, Albinism and other conditions that result in impaired vision.
For 50 years I have been helping Virginians see the best that they are capable of. Patients often tell me that their doctor has told them that nothing can be done to help them. The doctor is correct that nothing will cure these problem or make the conditions go away. As a low vision optometrist my practice is dedicated to helping people with impaired vision maximize their eyesight so they can enjoy more active and independent lives.
Watch this series of videos and you will learn about the many ways a low vision doctor can help you see better. I will explain and demonstrate the many types of low vision glasses and other devices that can help you see better.
In the next Help for the Visually Impaired event I will explain bioptic telescopic glasses. I'll show you several different types and help you understand how they work and how they help.
