Other 5Ds archetypes have seen updates, like Blackwing and Earthbound Immortal (and the myriad of updates Yusei's and Jack's archetypes have gotten), so I think if they're looking for more, it would be a great choice. There's a very good reason Konami uses blue eyes/dark magician yugiboomer stuff in ALL their marketing. It's literally the icon of the Master Duel app, it's all over the storefronts for the game, it's in all their social media... the tragic part is that people will see that and then meet face-first the wall that is modern Yugioh, with no opportunity to play the game as they remember. Maybe Konami should be asking the fans what structure decks they would want to see. Polling, questionnaires, and so forth. More interaction with the player base might help to let them know what people want updated in a structure, and what they would go out and buy. I was thrilled when I learned about the Traptrix update/structure version, and another structure deck ended up being my absolute favorite archetype, Lair of Darkness (though it REALLY needed some creative tweaks on my end). I remember also wishing the Icejade update was put into a full archetype structure deck, as I think people would love it if they got some instruction on how it works. Structures have had a massive influence on me as a player, so I would gladly contribute on my part if Konami regularly addressed the fans over what structures should be made.

      Slowing product makes sense to me, since they have been dropping WAY too many products lately. They could definitely shrink releases to focus on quality, my largest worry is that, like rarity collection 2, they are going to hike the prices for what is liable to be a worse product overall, since tcg doesn't seem to want to put the bigger recent staples in recent decks.

  • @four-en-tee
    @four-en-tee Před 11 dny +28

    I think the problem is that the TCG just doesnt want to release the Tactical Try Decks. They don't know how to make those products worse without pissing off the community, so they just aren't going to release them at all. Not to mention that with Maxx C banned in the TCG, you'd have to adjust the non-engine cards in there out of necessity and idk if Konami would be willing to put 2 copies of Prosperity into a structure deck, not to mention that Spright Blue and Spright Jet are still money cards on the secondary market. Printing those would also be bad for vendors, even though I think its EXACTLY what the game needs to get people into paper play.
    The reality is that with the way the secondary market works in the TCG (where there's just not as big of a collector's market as games like Pokemon), the game pretty much makes its money off of whats competitive. So printing stuff like the Tactical Try decks in the TCG goes against their financial interests because the culture of the TCG community is just vastly different from the OCG. There's a large sect of players in the TCG community who outside of the DM-5Ds era don't care that much about the anime. Hell, I started playing in 2021 and only really watched the original series for the first time after learning the game. I have ZERO nostalgia for the anime and care more about the card lore. I only care about the DM-era stuff because I think the story of the original manga/anime was really good, I genuinely think it holds up well.
    But anyways, the collector's market problem could be easily resolved if Konami started also locking alt arts behind rarities like statlight rare, collector's rare, what have you (as well as just started printing more alt arts in general). Just rarity bumping beloved cards like Dante or what have you at stupidly high rarities isn't enough anymore I think. Konami needs to do a better job of fostering a collector's market so that the player base can suffer less. Konami also needs to further capitalize on people who enjoy lore-based archetypes. Stuff like the Albaz, Aluber and Ecclesia alt arts are a step in the right direction, Konami needs to really milk alt arts for what they're worth tbh. The best thing that Konami did right lately was print alt arts of the Evil Twin link monsters. I'd highly recommend that they do the same for archetypes like Dragon Maid, Tearlaments or Labrynth for example. THATS the sort of shit that modern day collectors in this game would want.
    Thats one of the big things about the Pokemon TCG and why their collector's market works. Their collectors want all the different arts of their favorite Pokemon. For whatever reason, Yugioh isnt willing to embrace that and its partially affecting the price of the game. Like, if Konami printed a copy of Incredible Eccledia that showed her eating a Hungry Burger, i'd be willing to fork over 100 dollars for a single copy if they locked it behind a collector's rare or some shit. It'd look really good in a binder and it'd surely raise in value over time so long as Konami doesnt get too crazy with reprinting alt arts. Not to mention that vendors pulling it from cases of a given product could use it to further cover the expense of the case, which would help bring down the price of the rest of the cards.

      @spicymemes7458 Před 10 dny +2

      That was loaded and not probably better suited for an in-person conversation. You say the TCG is more competitively minded, yet we can't get competitive decks like Tactical Try because they can't figure out how to make it less competitive? That's counterintuitive. They are not above giving out high end reprints in structure decks as they are usually welling points and we just got rarity collection where they were willing to give every card 7 different prints so the value of everything involved was extremely cheap so I don't byt that they are being stingey. Also, the comparison to pokemon is fair, but it's not just about alt arts. They have fans who buy into toys, video games, movies, and yes, even the anime, which the main story followed the same character for 25 years, so people were attached to those characters. Nostalgia is a huge part of it, and the brand doesn't center itself exclusively around a card game, least of which are the most competitive, hard core players.

There's still a lot of people who would pick them up to try a deck they never felt interested in investing the money into building AND it provides an easier way to perform the structure deck tournament idea you brought up (as it brings the entry price down to just the cost of 1 structure deck). Tie in the structures with Master Duel (with branding or potentially even using incentive rewards for buying the deck physically) and there's a LOT of potential on the table.

    At this point, I'm surprised they haven't just gone through every character from the anime/manga seasons and just make structure decks for everyone. Can have some new and retrains of cards since there are many retrains of DM cards nowadays and can just both update older monsters, reintroduce people to the various characters, both main and side, and people can use monsters they were fans of but have become (or were never) viable. Things like when Team 5D's vs. Taiyo were old cards had some spotlight helps with both nostalgia and see something new/updated.

I feel like structure decks should serve to bring in new players and bring back old players but I just don't see anyone doing that. Either structure decks don't feel playable in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh or competition from other TCGs is to strong to bring in player bases with that product.

      It can sometimes feel like a game where it takes a crew of pre-existing friends like Team APS to actually enjoy the fun of structure decks, battle packs, limited formats, cubes and the like; both Konami's store support policy and the store communities that ingrain around it make competitive Advanced basically everything. Just finding a group of friends that care about enjoying a game more than eternally prepping for the next tournament shouldn't be such a frustrating aspiration, and Konami being so begrudging about making accessibility products like structure decks and punishing people for daring to buy into the game with them really isn't helping.

I like them over the tactical try decks because they always have new cards as well as good reprints, while the tactical try decks have the ladder they lack the former. Releasing them in pairs like the Asian-English Decks sounds like a great idea. Rather then having an entire format for Structure decks, having structure deck release events would be a great idea. They should use it to promote getting the games to new players, providing the deck with entry cost and power up packs similar to what are in the Asian-English decks. With Prize Support being additional packs. We would have to figure out how to make it fair for newer players and promote the vets teaching them however, which may be the difficult part.

    The Crimson King SD is what brought me back into the TCG after a long time, a friend of mine picked up the Egyptian God SDs to play with his brother and another friend of mine got Shaddoll cards and beat my ass, so I still have to improve my Crimson King SD, without straying too far from the theme, so I was thinking about the Bystials, so I at least have something to play through Winda. I also bought a playset of all Ashened cards except Veidos and his spell, because I really like the Dark Souls influence of these cards. Sadly Veidos is too pricey for coffee table yugioh (currently around 60 Euros for a playset without shipping), so I'll have to wait for a potential reprint that will hopefully be lower rarity.
    I'd love the tactical try decks, simply to make staples more accessible. My friend group doesn't use staples because we try to keep our decks on theme, but picking up cheap imperms and ashes wouldn't hurt. As for SDs yes I'd love to see more of them, but I'd most likely end up not getting most of them, unless I like the archetype/playstyle.

    I ordered a JP structure deck by accident once (HERO Strike), and have never been able to look at the TCG design with any positive feelings since. The one good thing I can say about the latter is that maybe they're a bit easier to recycle without the little plastic windows (though recycling is a bit wasteful compared to just USING LESS), and attaching the player guide to the back of the mat isn't the worst idea, but just stand any OCG structure deck box and its TCG counterpart side by side. The TCG ones are chunky monstrosities several inches larger than necessary with the art splashed over the front. Meanwhile the OCG boxes are barely larger than the deck itself, have the cards in a little plastic tray with the mat, rulebook and player guide folded up under the tray, and a little plastic window that lets you see the actual headline card instead of a blown-up image of it.
    Did I mention the quality of the OCG cards? They're not that different on the face of it, but the feel and handling is much smoother--the OCG cards will literally slide off if I try to stack them unsleeved! And that extends to the boxes, find me a TCG Structure Deck box with the shine of an OCG SD box.

By teaching the player base about fallicies the average player will improve both at the game and at other ways of thinking. Also fallicies can be tricky and as such might prove to inspire some really good effects or several combo plays by working off of each other.

    I think a structure deck only format would be awesome. Sadly I have not played in so long heck I haven't even bought any cards in a while, I think the last thing I bought was the obelisk the tormentor deck and that was for nostalgia purposes. Every now and then I will pick up a new structure deck and play it against other structure decks and it seems like a great way to get into the game again but the when I look back into it you get confused by new mechanics or new summoning techniques it really throws you off. I recently started master duel and there are people who do like a 20 move combo and win turn 1 and that scares a lot of players away but in a structure v.s structure match up you wouldn't get that and people couldn't complain about losing if the other person has the same cards. One last thought even if the tournament has a thirty dollar entry fee it's still cheaper than most decks that people make heck Vanguards last decks had 1 card in it that you HAVE to have to play in a tournament cost 30 bucks, so I think it is not so bad.

Like you said in the video they usually are designed to bring up to snuff decks which may have gone by the wayside just look at the examples you gave in the video. I do like the idea of the ready made competitive decks and i think they could potentially make them competitive while also breathing new life into a archetype / deck that has gotten powercrept out. I mean you COULD put newer support cards in these competitive decks not just putting in cards that already existed just some food for thought.

  • @ChaosDeathFireWitch
    @ChaosDeathFireWitch Před 11 dny

    Structure decks were what brought me back to the game in 2022 when I had not played since 2006. Getting a cohort deck that is not far stretch from becoming competitive is what I needed to relearn the game. If it was just booser packs avaliable and that massively underpowered 2 player starter deck then it would not have got me into the game. New players usually wont know how to make a functioning deck from different booster sets and singles, they need a product that does that for then.
    The tatictical try decks are very cool though, so you only need 1 or 2 of them instead of 3 for the deck to be viable. My hope is that they will br released after rarity collection 2, when the cost of stables is already low so getting common prints of power cards is not so extreme. That way we wont get as many scalpers.

    the ideal solution would be to mark up the price slightly, but then make the contents of the deck look like the 3x structure deck builds people make online. This would however mean you'd have to put less powerful reprints in there, to encourage deckbuilding and thinking outside of the box... the structure deck box.

    I've played structures since I started yugioh. I think they are a fantastic way for people to start the game and have a low cost of entry. Tournaments set up around them would also add a fantastic way into the tournament scene with a low cost of entry.

    I think a cool SD would be an earth machine based deck like using infinitrack + trains + a couple of machina cards maybe but that would be a stretch. You could also ask for a ancient gear SD. But the infinitrack + train ect is my personal deck at the moment, so im a bit biased but you only really have the machina SD for the budget machine deck but some new infinitrack or train cards could be sick as again its my favourite deck at the moment. Idk though i might be trippin

    It is interesting how we are now almost halfway through 2024 and we haven’t gotten a structure deck now allegedly next month they are supposed to do a re-release of the realm of light structure deck, but as far as a brand new structure deck, Konami has been silent on it. Also I haven’t been a fan of the new packaging of structure decks since the Crimson King structure deck I missed when the older structure decks had a very straightforward kind of packaging

    I would love to see them make new support for the Orichalcos archetype in a structure deck. I believe that archetype has a LOT of potential to be competitive.

    Im slowly waiting for a Galaxy eyes photon/Kite structure deck, Blackwings/Crow structure deck and a re-trained Elemental hero mixed with other heros/Jaden deck. But I can always still dream.

    In MTG they have Showcase cards, I'd love a structure deck of an old archetype with a kickass showcase design of the main foil cards. Re-releases of character based structures for modern play like Yugi Structure with the most recent Dark Magician support and a showcase Dark Magician

    A possible reason for no new SD is the tactical try decks or whatever coming later this year.
    I think Konami also knows they aren't many options left for SD R's aside from Chaos, which I imagine they'll want to be the next 3x SD strategy so they're stretching out what we have now.

    I feel like doing another structure deck right now would be very difficult due to the current power level of the meta. Obviously when you buy a structure deck you aren't meant to be playing top tier decks, but with things like Tenpai (which could be it's own structure deck realistically) and snake eyes, it becomes challenging to make a good one.

    If they do more anime themed structure decks, I'd love to see a few of the following series:
    DM: Sigfried (Valkyries), Joey (Red-Eyes)
    GX: Supreme King (Evil Hero), Sartorius (Arcana Force)
    5Ds: Aki (Rose/Black Rose Dragon), Team Ragnarok (Aesir/Nordic)
    Zexal: Vector (Umbral Horror), Tron (Heraldic Beast)
    Arc-V: Serena (Lunalight), Shun (Raidraptors)
    Vrains: Blue Maiden (Marincess), AI (@Ignister)
    I really hate what they did to the Charmer structure deck, every other SDs had gotten plenty of new supports, but Charmers had the lest amount of supports, no extra deck monsters, 5 tokens that don't add anything to the deck or lore, and 5 alternative artworks of the Familiar-Possessed which should have been used as actual retrains for the cards themselves instead (not to mention we still do not have an alternate artwork for Dharc yet)
