      I quit collecting Yugioh in 2012 due to a lack of friends interested in Yugioh. Just kind of seemed pointless to collect when no one else would duel, this was before I found local card shops. Fast forward to 12 years later, I overheard a few coworkers talking about dueling! Next thing you know I’m at my local shop with them buying three copies of the traptrix deck and being schooled by a new generation on how to duel. He told me about team APS, love the content!

    If you are new to trading card games, it is a general rule to buy individual cards instead of packs. You guarantee the cards you want and will save money in the long run. I know this advice was mentioned briefly in the video, but I want to strongly emphasize it.

    • @rangeless
      @rangeless Před 7 měsíci +9

      Yeah. Opening product is not worth it unless you can fully use a majority of the set cards and even then, at a certain point you r better off buying the remaining hard to acquire ratios.

    • @DemonFox369
      @DemonFox369 Před 7 měsíci +19

      If you are new to trading card games, you don’t know what cards exist. It is generally easier to buy packs or structures at the start (first 50 or 100 bucks) despite the extra cost, because someone who’s never experienced the game cannot have knowledge of which cards they like or want. Once they’re a little familiar with the game by having a deck and being around other players, then they can save money by buying singles.
      It’s easier to get into the game by having a pool of cards to play with instead of figuring out which deck is the right choice or which 40+ cards need to be purchased individually before being able to start the game.
      Unless you’re getting into the game because you know somebody who plays it, you don’t really have a person giving advice on what to get. If I want to buy cards from a store, they’ll recommend packs and decks. If I want to buy cards from a vendor or individual binder, they’re not gonna recommend anything good if you have no likes or dislikes.
      We’re trying to play the game and see if we like it, not do research and waste time over 20 bucks.
      Save means not spending 500 bucks to get what you want that costs 100. It’s not saving 20 bucks.
      Singles are much better for price but no beginner is able to access them without wasting their time not playing the game if they’re just starting the game.
      The idea of “save by buying singles” is advice given to beginners by experienced players. But that’s not good advice for a beginner in my opinion.

    Right now might be one of the best times to get into yugioh. The quarter century set really made lots of staple cards available to new duelists for way cheaper than before. The structure decks have great staples too. I was gonna build a deck for the first time literally days before the set dropped. I was looking at a Baronne De Fleur… it was 25$ on tcgplayer.
    I was like “damn I guess I just gotta bite the bullet and get it. Can’t get 2 of them tho.” *added to cart*. I decided not to spend so much money on a card like that atm tho.
    Lo and behold, days later, the set dropped. Baronne De Fleur was around 2.50$ on tcgplayer! Now it might be less than 2$. This logic applies to a lot of other cards in this set too

    Those Traptrix structure decks have been the ultimate blessing. My buddy who had no interest in playing finally decided to try the game out when he learned that for only $30 he could take on full power decks. I still see them in all kinds of stores so it's always an easy recommendation to pickup. Plus, the inclusion of good insects, plants, generic traps, and staples from the HAT era mean that it's easy to pivot into a new deck type if you're enjoying the playstyle. I'm sure 5 years down the line we'll see lots of high rated players citing that as the deck that got them first playing Yu-Gi-Oh.

    Great video as always Team APS! Another fun and straightforward deck (that's also cheap) I can recommend is ABC's a.k.a ABC-Dragon Buster Turbo. Core itself is dirt cheap and almost none of them costs more than a dollar per card. Deck Core looks something like this:
    A-Assault Core 2-3x
    B-Buster Drake 3x
    C-Crush Wyvern 2-3x
    Union Driver 1-2x
    Union Hangar 3x
    Terraforming 1x
    Unauthorized Reactivation 1-3x
    ABC-Dragon Buster 3x
    The rest you can fill in with your favorite staples cards. Also if you want to increase the deck's power more, you can even add in a Adventurer token, Therion engine, Revolution Synchron, Galaxy Soldier/Cydra Infinity engine. (At most use 2 engines though or else you risk more brick hands.)
    The deck is flexible enough that it can even use multiple Extra Deck summons like Xyz, Link and/or Synchro summon depending on which engines you decide to include!

    Machines are fairly broad and cheap, Machina is a good core with a lot of generic and splashable effects for other Machine archetypes. They hit hard and are pretty simple and linear. Symphonic Warrior complements them with a bit more elaborate combos to set up extra deck plays. Gear Gigant X is a must have for any Machine deck that can get a couple level 4s on board. Trains (Level/Rank 10 EARTH Machines) are a bit more elaborate but the XYZ are fairly generous bosses in situations where Machina Citadel and Ruinforce can't quite cut it.

    What I would do with a 100 dollar budget getting into yugioh: 3x crystal beasts structure decks as there is a 50% off sale in some shops I visit, playmat, sleeves and lastly find singles for the deck until you reach that budget. Crystal Beast control deck is quite interesting. Nice video

    IMPORTANT!!! Idk maybe you said it somewhere in another video - Above All!!! The first advice before spending any money on Yu-Gi-Oh, if your goal is playing it with someone, then think well WHEN AND WITH WHOM you'll be playing! I mean if you want to play at your locals, and you follow this video and it turns out a lot of people there are playing real Meta Deck, you may not get to really play and it may feel frustrating. That's why it is most important to check out your local scene, or make sure you have friends interested in playing formats adjusted to the power level of the products you intend to buy. Of course some may be lucky and get structure decks and go to a local game club and meet people who are not much into meta decks and have a good time, but God if you buy structure decks x3, even with a few adjustments, and in your local scene there's a lot of meta players, it really may get frustrating and awful... At least that was my experience... Appreciate you told about the official Yu-Gi-Oh sleeves, they really suck, the worst thing to buy

  • @RunicSigils
    @RunicSigils Před 7 měsíci

    Technically official sleeves work fine for theming the ED.
    I have MVP1 art OCG DM sleeves on my Dark Magistus ED, my Witchcrafter deck has the Unveiling sleeves from the MAMA box, and my Twins LEU ED is in the IP sleeves, for example. Those decks use, respectively, a dark red (crimson, I believe they call it), magenta, and orange Dragon Shield otherwise.
    You just definitely don't use them on your main deck because they are clearly made to fail.
    At least you're not constantly shuffling the ED besides a few outliers.

    Heh. Went to my local Wal-Mart and Target today in hopes to find any YGO products and both places were torn through, completely obliterated. The only things that remained ( at Wal-Mart ) was 2 of the new Structure Decks. And target had a few TrapTrix SDs.... no matts, no sleeves, no boxes, tins ect.... Now im unsure of their restocking days/weeks but yeah, very saddened to see scalpers are still at it with this stuff.

  • @jasonstricklin2602
    @jasonstricklin2602 Před 7 měsíci

    100$ to get into the game sounds reasonable.
    Cheap deck box can be bought under 5$
    A cheap playmate can be bought between 10-25$ depending on your preferences and what you are going for quality wise.
    A pack of sleeves for the ultra pro one can go for 5-10$ or you can go for the dragon shield brand thats another 5$ value range.
    The new 25th anniversary box set is probably the best way to go here buying singles.
    Picking up 3 copies of any single structure deck that came out in the last year as well is a pretty solid thing to do.
    I know that there are also several other cheap decks you can build outside the limitation of structure decks under 50$ as well
    All n all you would probably be going and picking your cards up at local card shops or you will be purchasing online tcgplayer or maybe Amazon.
    You end up spending more than 100$ just getting into the game in the long run
    It aint always about strategy and luck of the draw hell most of the time it will come down to who had a larger bank of cash to work with when building their deck.
    If its been fully optimized correctly a competitive deck if you plan on going to large events outside of your locals you are looking at over a thousand dollars in just building a competitive deck.
    I use to play pendulum magicians when i played competitively had over 300$ invested into that deck
    A ban list came into effect making the deck almost unplayable. I also dabbled with a dark magician deck
    Magicians souls use to be around 100$ at the time. Never could bring myself to spend 100$ on a single copy of it.
    You had to have at least 2 of them to get the ball rolling.

    In the 5D era, My most favorite cards are the Stardust Dragon related cards of Yusei. Kinda disappointed Jack Atlas got a new Structure Deck as a Yusei fan.
    That remind me, does the Traptrix have their own Synchro cards? Or this archetype only has XyZ & Link cards?
