    All I've seen is people who play competitive whining about how these decks are awful when it is pretty clear it isn't meant for them and is meant to teach the basics of the game to a new player. Is it great? No but i think it's a step in the right direction for sure. Yu-Gi-Oh absolutely needs a beginner friendly format that isnt just completely overwhelming to learn.

    • @LunaticKD1991
      @LunaticKD1991 Před 4 měsíci +7

      Trying to hide behind "well it's a step in the right direction". 🙄
      A better step would be to stop a newer player from wasting money on this trash and introducing them to structure decks and having them spend $10 more to get 3 of them and they'll have a consistent and useable deck to learn the game with and for the mechanics their structure decks don't have they can learn from the rules online or even through the anime or Yugioh video games like Master Duel which has actual tutorials for the mechanics.
      The problem with this product as someone who has played Yugioh since the beginning is that we know how this is going to go. Some poor new player is going to waste $20 on this thinking they're going to learn how to play current day Yugioh and then they're going to get stomped by a current Yugioh deck and that new player is going to realize that they just got scammed out of $20 by Konami and they'll never buy another Yugioh product again. Players aren't complaining because it's not a competitive deck. They're complaining because it's not representative of current Yugioh and doesn't even teach all of the mechanics. The result being potential new players getting scammed and never attempting to purchase another Yugioh product again which means even less players will be playing Yugioh. Don't defend trash like this. Call it out for what it is otherwise Yugioh will always fail to draw in new players.

      Thank God someone said it, anybody who gets upset about stuff like this is braindead. New players aren’t going to be interested in the combo negate extravaganza this game has become. A 2 player set with some staples and basic teachings of some of the new mechanics is great! Why would anyone be upset about it? Lmaoo grow up 😂😂 new players aren’t gonna be ready to ash and droll correctly right off the bat so a beginner friendly format is definitely a step in the right direction and I’d go even further to introduce new rules never initiated to bring back some semblance of the old ways to keep it actually fun. No new player wants to sit across someone for 10 minutes while they search their entire deck, banish half of yours, set up 7 negates, and get ur Lp to 100 all on the first turn

    • @jacobshelton3743

      They needed to have this product be like the pokemon battle stadium. Sell it as a board game. It came with two basic decks and a "advanced" deck. Had a board that showed clearly the zones for both players and rules for turn order and statuses. And it was $20. Much better value than this yugioh one, they should definitely have took a loss on the product so that they get people buying their other product

      @@LunaticKD1991 How about no? To everything you just said. This product is of good quality and it's intended target audience is that of new Yugi-Oh players who are trying to get into the game. You teach them the basics and fundamentals first and once they've grasped them THEN later you teach them the advanced stuff. Don't make me call a judge on you.

    I recently bought the battle city speed duel pack to play some simple casual yugioh with my wife and honestly it has been so good, so I think a product like this every now and again is great for people that want to just play for some nostalgia without having to learn the current metas. So im happy to see something like this, as long as it’s not too often. W for yugioh!

    Well for me this is going to help. As a Magic player, the mechanics are way too different in Yu-Gi-Oh, I started learning by playing speed duel, but even this two pre-constructed decks are going to help a bit learning the whole game piece by piece.

    As a person who has recently landed themselves a job at a local card hobby shop, purchasing this starter set has been a massive help! I for one would be keen to purchase something similar, with different mechanics such as pendulum and fusion being explained! :D

  • @iamabucket13
    @iamabucket13 Před 4 měsíci +4

    I feel like something that people may not be thinking about is that generally, the best cards in yugioh search cards from deck. This wouldn't really work in a scripted duel since you can't shuffle. Could they have put in stronger cards? Absolutely. Could they script a more realistic duel? Probably not.

    I think this is what they were trying to do with Speed Duels. I like it they made a plot armor deck. It's not a bad product to learn how to play from. I think they should go full tilt and add the common hand traps like ash and Impermanence. Plus they should address all summoning mechanics.

    Honestly, I don't hate the 2 Player Starter Set. Like the name implies, it's a starter set. It's meant to get those who have never touched the game an entry point, if someone showed me the craziness of say a U Link play or anything like that when I first started, I probably would've never continued with the game. It's a pilot, it's meant to serve as an entry and then if you like the ideas and the concept you can take it further. No tutorial on Earth shows you the most complicated stuff right off the bat.
    I do believe that there is poor follow-up. If someone does like the game and wants to take it further and learn the advanced stuff there are very few official resources which allow you to do so.

    Well it depends. If the comic book explains ALL the mechanics properly, then it's good. But if it doesn't... and these deck feel a bit too random for the theme they're supposed to hold (XYZ and synchro). Also, nowadays Yugioh is all about combo, and I don't feel these structures hold any combos that you can actually learn and understand the true nature of the game as it is now. I feel they seem to be more like the old "1 or 2 card combo" which is really nice and I love, but it doesn't hold true now.
    I do think it's great that they get a great card like Zeus for cheap, and Manadium as a basic build for an advanced combo deck is not a bad choice. I think they could be better, but the idea behind it is really nice!

    It looks like a useful product to get ppl up to speed, at least for the early stages of playing the game.
    The comic book is a nice idea imo

    Honestly, I think this is a pretty good product. If the goal is to teach the game to new players (or returning players from many years ago who aren't necessarily comfortable yet with summoning mechanics like Synchro and Xyz), then it needs to strike a balance between being too basic and being too overwhelming. These decks don't seem too far off the mark in that regard, since they feature a mixture of old-school cards with simple effects and newer cards that could be (and are) used in competitive decks to do much fancier combos than what these decks can do out of the box. I can imagine someone with a serious interest in learning the game using this as a stepping stone, even if there's a lot more to learn (esp. Link summoning and hand traps) after playing with the cards included here.

    This past year I was introduced to playing Magic The Gathering through their starter kits which are basically the same thing as this product, 2 decks and an intro guide. It was a great way to learn the game because playing with and against a deck around the same caliber really keeps it even for both sides. It was for sure fun but it does get repetitive after a while so I went out to buy the other starter kits from previous years and ended up with 8 different decks because they were affordable. I didn't care that these decks were not good in the meta, I knew that they were not going to be good from the start. From there I decided to make my own deck from those cards and eventually started buying singles or booster packs. I feel like if they keep this up then there be a variety of starter kits for Yugioh and be very helpful to introduce more people to the base game which is its intention.

    Imo they should’ve started with ritual and fusion. Then go on with the other forms of special summoning

    I think it's the right idea, but the decks could have been more synergetic. Zeus and Coral Dragon are nice reprints though!

    I quite like it! It’s hard to get into yugioh now, I know when I was getting back into it I found learning how to play very difficult 😅 especially with all the new summoning mechanisms

    This is kinda why I like speed duel. Simple, easy, prebuilt decks that you can play with a friend. Only wish they removed the HIDEOUS speed duel stamp from the otherwise gorgeous secret rares 😤

    When it comes to teaching Yugioh and its many summoning mechanics; the less things a new player has to keep track of, the better. So having vanilla monsters take up a bunch of the monster slots is a good call.

    It's pretty clear why... Pokemon offer a double deck battle pack and they're very popular with people that don't have any understanding of the game. It's just a marketing ploy to rope people to starting it up

    I like the idea of starter sets. I think the cards they chose are strange. I think the product really has 2 goals. The secondary goal is to teach people how to play, but the primary goal it to make a fun experience. You could give someone some LOB decks and it will be very simple, and they could quickly learn some of the most basic concepts of yugioh, but LOB is not particularly fun compared to other card games, so I doubt it would hold interest. I think the idea of a scripted duel was a bit weird, because I don't think two players would have a lot of fun reading walls of text and passing the book back and forth for 60 something pages. Also its not fantastic to just play as its own format, because the XYZ deck is far stronger than the synchro. The book often teaches you to misplay just so that they can move the duel forward. Many people have stated, this should have come with token cards and a playmat to teach players where to put their cards.
    I think they could improve this product by looking at past formats. I don't think it is possible to teach a player how to use all of yugioh's summoning mechanics with 1 cohesive deck. I also do not expect them to give us swordsoul for $20. However, I think if they took some goat deck lists, and reprinted some of the top goat decks, that could present a heavily simplified version of the game. Goat has some complexity but its not modern yugioh. It doesn't use most of the summoning mechanics. Goat is also pretty balanced with many great decks to choose from. Goat is also extremely fun. They could match 2 relatively equal goat decks, include a playmat, and maybe like 1 random promotional card like Zues or eldlich.
