    I got mine today for 178 us, brand new, no box. It's a stunning guitar. I owe Fender American, PRS, G&L, Dean, Epiphone, and Jet Guitars. This one is my first p90 guitar, I fall in love with it, flawless, high end finished.

    I have the other Goldtop w/ humbuckers already. As well as the Burst. Bought both new. This one with P90's? I just got a STEAL on one. Brand new. Virtually unplayed. Only $109 +40 shipping! What?!? I've also got the blonde Retro DLX Plus T-style. This only leaves 1 more that I want... The red Indio Boardwalk. I think I'll be set at that point lol. My 3 current DLX Pluses are impeccable. Setups were impeccable. Still haven't touched the setup on any of them. Frets are always level and ends are rounded and not sharp or snaggy. Man I can't wait on this thing to get here. I honestly can't believe he had it listed for so low. Hell of a deal!
    On the 2 LPs, I put Faber tailpieces and new Gotoh ABR1s & Faber conversion poststo replace the Nashville style bridges. You wanna talk about waking those guitars up? Man! They sound even better today than before I swapped those pieces on. The sound is more focused. Not so many over & undertones that made it sound "wooly". They both sound AWESOME now.

    WOW…. Just WOW! That gold top is WAY more beautiful in your video than it looks in the pictures on Monoprice’s website! That guitar is an absolute STUNNER!!!! The PRS/Gumby-like headstock is practically the only notable deviation from a real Gibson. I REALLY, REALLY like what they’ve done with it, too-like PRS, it has a shallower tiltback angle, and lets the strings flow much closer to parallel from the nut to the tuners. Therefore, the Monoprice design should have greater tuning stability and be less prone to headstock breakage than a real Gibson. EDIT: I’m also thinking that scarf joint might be stronger than the one-piece construction of a real Gibson. That guitar is incredibly classy, and I’m thinking maybe even better than the IYV ILS-300.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Před 2 lety +3

    • @J.C...
      @J.C... Před 2 lety +2

      It has straight string pull to the tuners unlike a Gibson. That alone means it has better tuning stability. The scarf joint isnt near where headstocks usually break so I'm betting it makes no difference here. They do it to save material, anyway. Not because it's supposed to keep headstocks from breaking or anything like that.

      @@JimmyStewart1 my burst came in yesterday and boy was it beautiful! It actually had vertical lines in the maple, like you see on the old Gibsons with the really good flamed maple tops.
      Unfortunately, I had to return it. It had a headstock break. Boy was I disappointed. This guitar was GORGEOUS! I couldn't believe it was only $250. So I returned it and they're either replacing it or refunding the money so I can order another. My gold top I bought in 2020 is incredible but that guitar had the potential to be even better than Goldie. Man. I can't wait til I get this replacement. Great video Jimmy. IMO this is best Monoprice guitar that I've heard. Those P90's are killer. Also the finish is stunning. They knocked it out of the park on this one. I still haven't bought a guitar with P90's. I have the IYV-400 on my wishlist for the next guitar I'm going to buy, but now I may go with the Monoprice 66SB. Thanks for the demo!

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting Tim! This new LP model from Monoprice did not disappoint! I don’t think you can go wrong with either guitar you are looking at. This of course, being solid body LP style is a bit of a different animal then the IYV Thinline Tele. It’s considerably heavier (don’t know if that is a issue per say, but could be to some) but it’s got some nice growl to it as well….it will also cost you a bit more 😎

      @@JimmyStewart1 It's around $100 more. I went back and rewatched your IYV-400 video and to me the 66SB is now at the top of my list. I'm not bothered with weight. I own a Gretsch G2210 & Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard. I'm not a huge LP fan, but those 2 sound amazing to me. Humbuckers in the Epi and BroadTrons in the Gretsch. I own a couple of tele style also. I just need the 66SB with P90's and maybe a strat style and I'll have all my bases covered for a while. I just got my Indio 66SB DLX delivered today, (Same model you're demonstrating) and I LOVE IT! Didn't find anything wrong with it straight out of the box. No blemishes, no unfiled frets, no fret buzz or muting, I mean NOTHING! it was almost perfect straight out of the box! it was slightly out of tune, but ever so slightly. I mean, an untrained ear wouldn't have heard it, but I did, and it was so easy to fix. It's a bit on the heavy side, but Les Pauls in general aren't known for being light weight. (Although some are "Weight Relief" but I didn't expect that from this model) Beautiful sound/tone. A person who is not familiar with how an authentic Les Paul gold top with soap bar P-90 pick ups would sound, really wouldn't be able to tell the difference with their eyes closed. (Or opened) OK, so it's not a three grand official Gibson, but if you're on a budget, and you've always wanted a Les Paul gold top with P-90 soap bar pick ups, I'd highly recommend this. You really can't go wrong. Four out of five stars for this review.

    I just got my 2nd Honey Burst 66 DLX Plus in yesterday. This one looks even better than the first one! And it's set up just as perfectly as my gold top was in 2019. I literally have to do nothing to it. Nothing whatsoever. Tune up & play. This one came with D'addario strings, as well. It should have a bone nut, also. 👌
    TBH, I think it's even better than my gold top, which I truly wasn't expecting. Man this thing is NICE. Fit and finish is immaculate. I'm absolutely shocked, even with as great as my gold top is. I was hesitant to order one because I figured my expectations were too high because of how great Goldie is. And I figured I was going to be let down and end up with a crappy guitar. Nope. Not a chance lol. This thing is SICK!
    The first one they sent had a much more yellow color to it compared to this one. Closer to Heritage Cherry with the yellow center and reddish-brown burst. This one is closer to Iced Tea Burst or as they call it "Honey Burst" with a center that's more brown vs yellow like ween on the Heritage Cherry Sunburst Les Pauls. I didn't remember seeing the color listed as Honey Burst on the first one. It just said "Sunburst". So I guess it could be a different color.
    One last question. What color is your fretboard? Mine appears to be black, as if it were stained black. Even though they list it as being "rosewood". I don't mind. I like Les Paul's with ebony fretboards as much as rosewood ones, so...
    Thanks!

      Now to move down the list lol. 1 down, 3 to go! I still want the P90 Gold top, the red 335/339 style, and one of their new DLX Plus Teles in blonde with a black pickguard. You used to only be able to get that color combo in the $89 model but they added it to the DLX Plus line when they added the P90 & burst guitars.
      I'm just not sure whether I'd want the 335/339 copy or the P90 GT first. Probably the gold top since I don't have any P90s but I've got humbuckers. Now if I could catch it on sale for $199 like I just did with the Honey Burst 66DLX.
      Yep. Its still on sale, I believe.

      I am thinking this model will not disappoint you! I have a number of the Monoprice guitars, and have really enjoyed them all! I really like their offset models, along with their Retro/Classic Tele and Strats. I picked up their 335 style as well (Boardwalk) and all have been quite nice, especially at the price point. I use their Stage Right Amps and cabs as well for the majority of my reviews. I have reviews/demo’s of many of their guitar models, amps here on the channel. I just bought a Monoprice Indio 66DLX. It's very pretty (black), but unplayable because the neck is out of adjustment (needs a bit of relief). That can be fixed. Every single string is touching the back of the bridge though (so it has two contact points which isn't okay). I have to have it setup. I also bought a firefly 335. One string is touching two points on the bridge, but it's playable (and pretty heavy). Hopefully I can have both of them setup and they'll be nice and playable. I love the looks of both of these.

    Sounds sweet like Kansas City BBQ sauce! I imagine that headstock tame the Les Paul G-string out-of-tune-again problem. Monoprice brags that their Master Luthier in California does the setup - that is uncommon. Jimmy, I appreciate you reviews of Monoprice and Inyen Vina's stuff. FYI those should be D'addario strings on that guitar. So it shouldn't need strings nor should it leave black on your fingers like all the other cheap guitars do. Monoprice isn't cutting corners like Firefly and the rest.
    Glad to see they put a decent truss rod cover on these. My HB gold top came with a trapezoid-shaped cover that DOES NOT go with the aesthetics of the guitar. So I took one off of my Silvertone Strat and put it on there instead.

      @@JimmyStewart1 same here, I enjoy the vids. I bought my Firefly DC right as the lockdown happened after months of shopping around for P90s -- I'd been missing my SG. Wasn't hard to pull the trigger after seeing your reviews. It really is an exceptional guitar. And like you I've been waiting for a mahogany P90 Goldtop and this is it. The Firefly has been tempting but the humbuckers (and the cutaway design) kinda turned me off. I have a lawsuit 60s ebony custom with humbuckers, made in the 70s that I acquired in 9os that's been great and I didn't want to duplicate, so I'm glad this one is finally out. The Harley Benton 450 GT has P90s but the body is basswood and I didn't want to go there. Me and mahogany go back a long way -- 60s SG and Melody Maker, both sweet guitars but cashing in became necessary. I also have a 61 J45 that is the only real serious "keeper." I've had it 30 years and I've never had reason to shop around regarding acoustics. If you're going to have too many guitars, make sure they're the right ones. Cheers. Jimmy, Watching you move the camera around your music room I see a lot of cases. I’m sure you have amassed quite a “ tone arsenal” that can cover any genre. Curiosity dictates that there’s some duplicates of the”name brand” vs the “budget guitars”. Maybe some more of your “shootouts” that a comparison will illustrate what you get for $1,500 vs $250? Is there enough of a difference in the construction, quality control, finish and sound to justify the expense to the untrained ear (ME!)? Hi Jimmy, I just picked up this guitar and I have to say I'm really impressed. I do have the IYV 300 and it's GREAT but for some reason this guitar feels like a more pricy instrument to me. It came ready to play (Plays Great) with no issues that I can see or find. I'm a new player at 58 but I'm learning and having fun. I REALLY enjoy your channel and all of your video's. I think the Monoprice Stage Right 15W is currently on sale right now for under $200, and it’s probably the best value all valve 15w combo out there. Once you go “tubes” there’s no coming back…I have full reviews of both the 15w and 5W versions here on the channel so you can check them out if you wish! Congrats once again on your Goldtop (good choice of course) and if you are seriously considering the amp, I wouldn’t wait to long as they tend to sell out quickly, especially when on sale.

      When I bought my amp, they came stock with Ruby (Asian) tubes. They are decent tubes, but I wanted to see what (if any) difference a set of JJ’s (Slovic) would make in it. Then, about a year later, Monoprice started shipping them with stock JJ’s! Perhaps they listened to me…😎. Then the conflicts started up with Russia/Ukraine and tube supply got scarce, so they went back to Asian tubes. Right now, I don’t know what they ship with stock. I honestly wouldn’t worry either way, as the stock tubes (whatever they ship stock) will be just fine for your needs to start. The stock reverb now is also just fine. It’s a two-spring unit and will give you plenty of old school “spring” reverb. Congrats on your new amp!! You will certainly enjoy it, and you got a good price as well! Even at full price, the amp is a bargain….🎸👍
      I wouldn’t worry about changing anything with it until you have it and played it for some time, especially since this is your 1st valve amp. Once broken in a bit, the amp will sound even better!! Congrats and enjoy!!

    That's a very nice guitar, but do a side-by-side with the Harley Benton SC-450 P90 GT goldtop.
    I bought one of those last July for $163, and it is worth much more, quality-wise. It looks much more Gibson-ish, and the sculpted neck heel/body joint makes playing on those upper frets a real breeze.
    The only negatives I have about it is that its "gold" top is more of a copper color, and the stock P-90's, while adequate, were upgraded to a higher quality better sounding pair. That was MY personal choice, however.
    As I write this, Thomann has dropped the price on them to $145.00, and although the shipping cost is rather steep (about 80 bucks), it is still a great bargain! Shipping from Germany to the U.S. only takes about 3 days from order to delivery.
    For comparison, I own 5 genuine Gibson guitars, and the Harley Bentons match up well with them. Of course the Gibsons will always come out on top, EXCEPT for the huge price differential. The HB's are great for those who don't want to pay big-name prices.

      Hi Rich…yes you could do a coil/tap split if you really want to I suppose. I would say however, that unless the humbucker pickup you are splitting was wound for a higher output, coil splitting may not give you a “useable” single coil sound. Really no way to tell how the pup is going to sound via being tapped or split until you do it. You will need to obviously rewire them (not sure if Monoprice uses 4 wire in their humbuckers on the DLX66 or not) along with push/pull pot. I know a lot of players do this, but I really have not heard a really useable “single coil” tone from most budget based split humbuckers. I would Google it and see if anyone has had success with the stock humbuckers, or see what others may have replaced the stock pickups with to coil split or tap. Hope that helps…👍🎸

    How would you compare this to a firefly guitar? Thank you.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Před rokem

      Good morning Angel…thanks for watching and commenting! I currently have two Monoprice DLX Plus LP’s and two Firefly LP’s and I enjoy them all. I can tell you overall I think the Monoprice LP’s came in with better setup’s out of the box. Fingerboard and frets better cleaned and polished and overall setup better dialed in.
      They also include a gig bag where the Firefly’s do not. Price was pretty much comparable when Monoprice has their 15% off. The DLX Plus LP’s are a bit lighter as well, if that is important to you. Firefly has the advantage in finish options. The build is close to the same, all very good with a slight edge to the Monoprice having less cosmetic finish flaws or other issues. Both brands give you plenty of bang for the buck. If you have a issue, I think Monoprice customer service is easier to deal with and returns/ exchanges are less complicated and quicker via Monoprice. You can call them…Firefly is a much smaller company and as such, they communicate via email and can be longer to get in touch with or respond. Hope that helps!

      I know for sure that FF uses ceramic in their LP’s…at least the humbucker versions. I am not positive on the Monoprice version, especially this one as this model is their P90 equipped model. I would assume they are ceramic in this as well, but could be wrong. I can tell you they sound GREAT in my opinion!

      As far as price, prob glary but quality control is starting to look better from those guys. But I'd skip all that and go right to Harley Benton. You'll have a player right outta the box may wanna adjust cpl things but not life/death decision making

      The “issue” with any guitar you buy online is not having it in your hands prior to purchase. QC is one of those items that tends to get neglected the further down the price point ladder you go. I bought a couple of Thomann HB’s in the past, and although good guitars for the $$, they didn’t come without some issues. I don’t expect perfection in a sub $300 guitar, but some of these companies have had issues with QC in certain models and any brand you buy you could get a great example or a not so great example…

    Are these soapbar pickups any noisier than humbuckers? Thanks.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting Ra…the soap bar P90’s are in fact single coils, so in design they tend to be more susceptible to 60 cycle hum then “humbuckers”. I find them pretty quiet in this guitar however. 👍🎸

    • @3DThrills
      @3DThrills Před 2 lety +1

      I was thinking of picking one up but I want it for recording and I keep things pretty soft and low, so I was worried these might not be the right choice for me. I won't be using any gain, if that might help keep them quiet? Thanks for the response.

      If you are picking one up strictly for recording, then I don’t know how useful the P90 “growl” will suit your needs. I think they could certainly be “quiet” enough in a studio setting and you could always “gate” them in post or pre. In my opinion a P90 just has more snarl and presence than a humbucker, but if you keep everything low and tamed down, it will all depend on style and where you want your guitar to sit in the mix. Monoprice has the same guitar with humbuckers. People have been recording guitars with P90’s for ages…it was the 1st successful mass produced guitar pickup, and still the best designed in my opinion.

    I just got mine after seeing your video. It is the worst inexpensive guitar I've ever bought. It had so many issues. I've bought new guitars for as little as $69 that was much better. This thing had a crack at the hill a bad pot, bad paint, rusty strings. I have over 30 guitars and this one was a big disappointment.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Před 2 lety +1

      Again, sorry to hear that Harley…as I stated, sometimes it happens with any brand you buy…I would be contacting Monoprice for an exchange or refund. I am quite happy with the one I received, and again sorry to hear that yours was not up to par. I am sure Monoprice will take care of it for you.

      Just a fan Jess…they put out some very nice, affordable guitars and I just try and let people know what I like/don’t like and my honest opinion on what I think. This model didn’t disappoint though it’s on their “higher end of their guitar model food chain”! It plays/sounds/feels and looks good….can’t ask for a lot more than that at this price point!
