It happened with me in Hyderabad almost 10 years back at a residential area where I went for a Christmas prayer meeting and was returning back on my scooty alone at around 1AM, and one boy started racing with me and was matching my speed or slowing when I slowed . And it was such a shocker that he almost rode beside my bike and groped me, and I lost my balance with shock and fell down.. and I immediately started my bike and went hunting that man, I felt like catching him.. but he was no where traced.. it felt like this guy was waiting on the roads for a female to do this.. and it was a residential area.. I kept going on that road and lane from where that bike started following me for many years after this incident just so I could slap him one tight... but sadly I never could do that and it was a very traumatic experience out of my many experiences..

Even if a man who is 6'2 walks about alone at night on a lonely street, there are chances he could get mugged or worse. As women our safety is in our hands, we decide where we go and at what time. I moved to Bengaluru some eight months back and I have never felt unsafe so far. Walking on a street at 2 am and expecting to feel safe all the time is a little too much.
Firstly, if you have been in Mumbai for a long time and are used to how things work there, you can't compare it with any other place and claim that the other place is not as safe. Mumbai never sleeps! Other cities do!
Secondly, one feels the safest in their own city! You will never feel as safe anywhere else in the world. There are many factors such as language, people's attitude, people's upbringing, one knowing their way around in their own city, etc.
Thirdly, this video is a good example of pseudo-feminism. Why would you want to wear a dress like that and expect to feel safe everywhere all the time? We have to accept the fact that our country is still not as safe as we would want it to be. That said, in my adult life, I have so far not experienced anything bad if dressed appropriately. If you research about other big cities in the world, you will find more horrifying statistics.
Also, "he is looking at me weirdly!" is a very very vague and subjective statement. Just because you are a woman, it does not entitle you to claim that someone's looking at you weirdly.
I am not trying to discount the fact that I too wish for this country to be safer for every woman, who wants to roam around alone at 2 am wearing anything she wants. But every city and country has its own unwritten norms and boundaries that have to be followed if one wants to feel safe. If you roam around at 2 am in Mumbai wearing something even shorter than this, nobody will be bothered! But expecting that from all other cities is unfair.

    • @Kshitija1985
      @Kshitija1985 Před 4 měsíci +23

I think we are completely missing the point here. I am not supporting the harassers nor am I supporting a dress code.
But yes. If you want to walk on a road at 2 am in an unknown city, you would definitely want to wear appropriate clothes for your own safety.
One more thing : people's reactions change depending on which part of the city you are in. For example in Pune, if you wear these clothes in Sadashiv Peth, people will stare at you. Not only men, but even women will stare. Cause they are simply not used to seeing this. But if you wear this dress in Koregaon Park, nobody will be bothered, cause it's a more cosmopolitan area and they are used to this.
It's not about me supporting anything or anyone. But it seems this video has been made to see people's reactions to this dress at 2 am and not to check if the city is safe or not.

As long as people keep getting so defensive about the state of women's safety in our country. There will be no improvements. Theres no point comparing India to countries like the US, where the situation is also bad. Why not try to be like Singapore and UAE, where laws are so stringent. Yes we have a huge population but we have to accept that improve our law enforcement.

do understand your situation.. Believe me even as a man I've faced some issues on footpaths and streets few times women give signs.. they're not regular women they're prostitutes - they usually occupy footpaths and dark streets they stand alone looking for guys.. mostly guys who do night out will misunderstand the regular people because of these prostitutes - govt should take action against this behaviour and should install cctv where these incidents regularly happens for safety of women and men

Yeah surely , the Desperado mens who were gazing and some that are horning around you was weird but its not a new thing that you see in india every where if there's a pro there also a con so yeah its not like the men around us but the culture around us don't allow girls to walk at night with one piece or short dresses

Suppose you went to a shop for dairy milk. The chocolate shopkeeper gave you dairy milk, but when you opened the wrapper, it was not dairy milk; it was just jaggery powder. Now tell whose fault it was: was it the customer's vision and thoughts were wrong or should the shopkeeper have to give the right product in the right wrapper?"

Girls safety is important issue but you are wearing such short dress let it be about your dress but you are asking for cigarettes and saying that how people gonna react if a boy also ask for it indians would react in that way only and safety is not smoking this is actually bull sh**it and those women who are working like doctor , police officers or any another profession women safety is actually important for them not for the girls who go in bars or for party this called awaara in our local language 😅 so please understand the meaning of safety 😅 😊 hope you understand being a girl its very important to keep yourself safe and why any boy or girl need to go outside for part party after 11 pm right 😊

I see multiple comments asking her to wear dresses that cover up more or not roam around at 2 am alone. Are y’all stupid? Sense nahi hai? First of all, she shouldn’t change, logo ki nazar badalni chahiye, what shes wearing is perfectly fine and if y’all can romanticise foreign culture, singling out western clothing on women is just arrogant and stupid. And the whole point of this is to test the safety of Bangalore’s streets for ALL women and check out the worst case scenario. What if there’s a girl who can’t catch a ride home after a party because their ride left and only gets a ride back, late at night? Tab bhi uski galti hai? And the girls in this comment section blaming her? As a girl, you should support her and give assertion to the notion that a woman’s clothing needs to be her own and it’s people’s minds that need a change. Basic decency ki baat hai. Aur konse facts bol rahe ho tum log? Feminism ki baat nahi, insaniyat aur izzat ki baat hai. Agar ek ladka bina pant ke ghumega, ladkiyan taaregi nahi. Toh how difficult can it be to expect basic respect and decency from people around you? She’s showing cleavage to feel confident? Theek hai, tere liye nahi hai, bhav mat kha aur taar mat. Simple funda hai, both men and women should follow it out of mutual respect for eachother to promote national safety.

Forget what you see on camera, …
imagine a scantily dressed female holding a camera and talking to herself on the streets (I’m sorry this is not Europe or USA unfortunately u are in reality in India) in the middle of the night!!
And she expects people to ignore her; drive past, nobody should turn their heads to look nobody should be bothered …. While this short dressed female walks alone in a city she isn’t familiar with in the first place. Yeah great content.
