In this Josh Talks, Geetanjali Babbar shares her story of working with the women from GB Road - a famous red light area in New Delhi, the capital city of India. Geetanjali first went to G B Road for her work when she was part of an organization and after the visit how she viewed the world changed. Born and brought up in Delhi, Geetanjali never knew this world in the same city existed and when she got to know about it, her life changed. She decided to work towards the upliftment of the women there in G B Road and contribute positively towards their growth and prosperity including their families. This story will not only introduce us to the lesser-known side of the lives of hundreds of women who have been forced into the trade.
This Talk was recorded in partnership with The/Nudge Institute at Charcha 2022 on August 04, 2022, at India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

1 hour!!??? We went past GB road once, on a cycle rickshaw. To reach wholesale market... My father ended sobbing like crazy, holding me tightly. I couldnt stop crying. My hatred for men went beyond control. Though my father would ask "am I not a male?" And I would say, you never ever have been like those vultures.
Then slowly that hatred turned towards me, for being born as a female homosapien. I saw no difference between wild animals and men. It took a lot of counselling, meditation courses to balance my mind. If, despite being blessed to live a safe life with doting parents & grand parents, I went almost crazy, imagine how a woman or any child born there must have felt!!

I keep thinking about this, you know. How society has failed women over and over through the centuries. Misogyny is so deeply rooted in our civilization. Sometimes I wonder there must be something fundamentally wrong with the male gender that these kinds of unspeakable gruesome violence always keep occuring. And guys that keep saying the same old "not all men", bro, it is predominantly your gender that is responsible for all the hate crimes and violence against women. So much violence, so much aggression, so much sin. Shit is never going to improve i think. Society is beyond help.

The argument that no women is there willingly can be said is false because Onlyfans exist. Some are forced into that life is also true tho, not denying it. Mostly the women there are by force and no one accepts them once having lived such a life. This is great tragedy. Hope Geetanjali jee does some good to those hapless women 🙏

Guys, please remember that prostitution is not a violation of Human Rights, being forced into prostitution is. If someone is a prostitute by their choice, we have no right to degrade them or degrade their work, everything has a role in this society. Respect them and their work. Also, you cannot do anything that you wish with a prostitute, their choice and consent also matters. In India, people don't blame those men (or anyone) who come night and day to prostitutes or even misbehave with them, but they blame and disrespect prostitutes for doing their work and getting bashed by men. This is something that should not be happening. Stop the victim blaming.
