BMW M2 G87 0-60mph Dragy Times! *Manual Launch Control*

- Hey everyone, welcome back to another video! Sorry for the delay in videos, we've been super busy renovating our garage and installing new components to the G87. In this video, we decided to see what type of 0-60mph times the stock G87 M2 was capable of via dragy. Obviously, these times aren't going to be comparable to the ZF auto transmission, but they should be relatively close. Overall, the times were very consistent but not nearly as low as I predicted prior to launching the car. I think with lower rear PSI and some more practice I could probably shave off 2/10ths or more. the zf m2 getting 3.5 to 60 in some vids. even so, still would take the manual and have more fun. more importantly tho, as someone who's owned a few supercars/sports cars, I will say 0-60 times are vastly overrated and doesn't accurately show a cars speed imo. ive had some 3 second cars that won't accelerate as fast as some 3.5 second cars in the real world. some cars are launch control specialists (see gtrs) that don't move as fast in real world situations (ie 35-65 mph overtaking situations, on ramp 2nd gear accelerations, 60-120 mph highway pulls etc). I'll take a car that pushes you back in your seat in more real world situations over a car that peaks during launch control. And from all the vids that I've seen, the new m2 seems like a much faster car that a 4.4 second 0-60 car (so don't stress the times!).
just kinda dumb because bmw claims 4.2 for 0-60 manual and normally bmw numbers are pretty conservative, but seems like the manual owners are getting screwed for factory numbers atleast.
Great video. Seat time matters a lot. Try launching from 1800 rpm, with a gradual release to WOT, and flat foot shifting into 2. That should your time down a lot.
I don't think you can adjust the launch control RPM's on a manual M2 sadly

Comp isn't dct, plus auto isn't as fun😅
These cars don’t use dct anymore they use zf8 speed trans buddy
@@TheModernSnipezthe auto in this car is way more fun, the 8 gears and shorter gear ratios mean it's faster, more responsive and easier to modulate the peaky torque from the engine. Almost every single hardcore "get the manual" reviewer in the past say this car is the exception and it's pointless getting the manual
@@brettbradshaw3704 The ZF also adds quite a bit of weight though as a downside.. but I agree the auto is more responsive and punchier because of the 8 gears.

Maybe BMW is quoting the times with 1 foot rollout. Like you said, lowering the rear tires to 30 PSI instead of 35 will yield a bigger surface patch, and it will also be easier to heat the tires.
It's very possible, I'll try again in the future with 30PSI in the rears and warmer tires!
Reason 19 I got rid of my manual M2: Everything keeps up with it in a straight line, or beats it. Takes too many mods to be quick like the ZF8. If you like 6MT cool, but it's always going to be average fast for 2023.
A RWD car like the M2 (a fast sports coupe, not a supercar) isn't really ever going to be the fastest thing from a standing start. But, that isn't where it shines.
If all you care about is traffic light grand prix, you might as well buy a tesla.
The M2 is all about the million other driving experiences, especially the cornering, chassis dynamics, balance, etc.

Put the traction control back on if ur spinning too much maybe
it would cut the power and he would get a slower time
Can't launch the car with traction back on, car has to be in MDM mode
@@DailyDownshift MDM still has 'some' traction control engaged.
The CDV (clutch delay valve) being removed will help your 1st to 2nd. Google and CZcams it. A lot of BMW enthusiasts have been removing the CDV for a while now
You can just remove it? Is it a physical component?
@DailyDownshift yes just Google it, it takes like 15 mins, including bleeding the clutch.
The CDV is there to protect the drivetrain from clutch dumps etc. Not sure if the CDV removal will cause issues if u keep launching like u did.
Additionally, you don't need to shift into 3rd to hit 60. Should just be 1 shift, that is what is hurting u times, I think.

Very nice, the OG sounds amazing. You should consider a high flow downpipe from Wagner or VRSF if you haven't already done it
@@DailyDownshift I do have the Dinan system on the exhaust, and sounds super sweet. Deep and throaty and most think it's a V-8 if they don't know the M2!
In getting good times, it come down to everything. Heat soaked engine, hot weather, old weather, below or above sea level where you live and etc. Not quite sure whats going on there.

Launching a manual vs auto is very diff. You really need to get the shifts perfect unfortunately

Honestly just put it in sport/track with DSC completely off and launch it from 2nd gear at different rpms, maybe you’ll get a better time

@@DailyDownshift hopefully that yields some better times! I know the G80/G82 comp launches from second gear but obviously the gearing is different but worth a shot
Did you install down pipes yet? Haven’t heard G87 with just downpipe stock exhaust. Coming soon?
As soon as our quickjacks come in we're doing the downpipes. We just did KW HAS with jack stands and it was a pain in the ass!
Yeah, the stuttering in 1st every time makes me cringe. I understand holding the revs up but I wonder if they are too high.
Sadly can't adjust the RPM at which I launch the car from, it's pretty much all auto when you use the launch control feature in MDM mode.
try to dump the clutch that should help
I'd love to see quarter mile trap speeds and 100-200kph/60-13mph runs.
100-200 can be done, quarter mile times probably not worth doing since it's a manual.. but maybe!
@@DailyDownshift I think its worth it, that way you can see what the trap speed is, good indication of the power even if E.T. is "slow"
i have this car as well in manual. you will not get any better than that without a prepped surface or wider tires. i think you can fit 305s on them. but buy the SSK and try that. i want one as well but don't want to spend the time and money on it if its not much, much better. same with the ultimate clutch pedal (UCP). also, i got some horrific grinding the other day launching. worst noise on the planet.

Next time turn off DSC and play around with your M traction control settings and see if that yields better results
MDM is it's own separate mode, you can only set level 3 or 4 traction if you have DSC off. I don't think the car uses launch control in anything other than MDM mode.
My bad, I was dyslexic. I meant have you tried launching it without launch control and your M Traction Control set to 3 or 4? I’ve seen people getting pretty decent times doing it that way because it helped with tire spin. I haven’t tried it myself but I will
Yeah I’m wondering if just a little bit of traction control would help you catch quicker. You’re definitely hopping too much off the start.

Your 1-2 shift can be faster, also seems like you're short shifting a bit
Yea I noticed the short shifts while I was editing, definitely will clean that up for next time
Reality in the real world is golf r and Audi 4 wheel drive system is designed to launch, bmw m cars having owned a few will never do the claimed time unless the surface, temperature is bang on plus very temperamental like the Nissan gtr
Audi and gold will always do the bang in time 9/10 in my Experian having own The bag group etc plus a lot of these you tubers blag or exaggerate
You're not wrong about that, Audi's launch control is always impressive. The new G8x comp AWD's launch hard too but this isn't an AWD :(

As someone who has one of these manuals on order, I’d love to hear your honest input. These times are making me wish I got the auto. I was ok with a couple tenths slower than the auto but not a half second. My old 2002 lightly modded trans am with a 6 speed manual was doing these times all day long.
Lol trade it in or sell it too slow…. 😂 get OG is the real M2
Tempted to buy another OG M2 and fully gut it so I can set it up as a track car
