actually i'm kinda concerned about how he handles the laptop.
I have the Alienware 15 since about 3 years now and its still my fave gaming Notebook.

SUDDEN-DEATH-GAMING is it better than the UHD panel? I heard TN isn't good but it has gsync and 120Hz.
JPOG7 TV I personally haven't seen the UHD model in real life. I can say tho that the TN panel is gorgeous doesn't bother me at all. If your a serious gamer get the TN panel (as in playing hours a day and or playing competitively) if not the UHD would probably be better still 60hz

There is a Gsyn option on the 15. Actually, for a 1070 you will find it difficult to get a screen without Gsync. They have two options. 60Hz IPS Gsync or 120Hz TN Gsync.

I find that as you get older, you turn into a real life Dory.
Also, before you test, do a repaste. The thermal compound on these things is basically a bit of toothpaste. You will see drastic improvement in temps and fan noise.

For those curious about size difference... the 17 is only about an inch longer than the 15 and about 1-1.5 lbs heavier.

I find that due to timing, media units are often straight out of labs and some of the first units to hit the shore and a half step away from the first prototypes. That means the OEM wants to make sure they work. The same units are often recycled again and again for review purposes and the OS may not be set up the way you might see it such as having to flip the thing over and dig up the product key (Win 7/8/XP for example.)

I have the Alienware 15R4 32gb with a 1060, great laptop but my major complaint is the fans are super loud and spin up frequently and gets hot. I have read some new post that this laptop has thermal issues with paste and pads used. Have you experienced this or what's your recommendation? Thanks.
Alienware Amplifier directly connect to the CPU or PCIE while the thunderbolt connects to its port then it transfer the data into the screen. Also, the more devices attached to the external GPU the less performance you get.
I bought 15 R4 in November 2018 in USA & brought it to India. Now the Battery has swollen and its breaking the frame, Tried searching related videos on how to replace the battery , did not find one.
How is the thermal performance for both 15 & 17 inch laptops ?

I still dont get why it takes a while to power on after pushing the power button. Even gordon thought the battery was empty when he powered on the 15.

@PcWorld Quick question. Do you think Dell Alienware/Asus ROG will hop on Ryzen APUs for their gaming laptops once its out ? If yes could there be some sort of crossfire/sli with dedicated AMD GPu and the on-APU GPUs ?
Laptops don't really do more than 4 cores. Look at the TDP of more than 4 core chips. Often its well over 50, and that's just not practical in a laptop. Even if they put a 4 core Ryzen in a computer, multi GPU gaming laptops are not really practical. The multiple GPUs make them heavier, deafeningly loud, and extremely heavy.
the core count on Raven Ridge will likely be quad. I do think companies will make Ryzen laptops--will they be gaming SKUs? I dunno. I'm also not sure it's worth the value for hybrid CFX or whatever it's called. Unfortunately, games just aren't supporting multi-GPUs much anymore.

Can you compare them by putting them next to and on top of each other, also next to other similar laptops for size comparison. Also what would you choose?

I am currently looking to get an alienware 15 R3 and would like to know if there are any disadvantages to having a G-Sync display on a laptop?
Does it have any significant impact on battery life of the laptop? Does having G-Sync display on a laptop mean that the integrated GPU is completely disabled and so all apps including non-graphics intensive ones run on the discrete GPU?
Also, would using a UHD 4K display in combination with G-Sync affect battery life?
During your unboxing of the alienware 15 R3 you mentioned that it's got OPTIMUS but in one of your responses to comments below you've said it also has G-SYNC?

I'd love to hear the results between the two as I've considered replacing my MacBook Pro (with it's loud fan) with a gaming laptop that would have less fan noise (if that's the case). I will be using one of these Alienware laptops to run my music software. So, here are my questions. 1. Equally specced out did either Alienware laptop 15 vs 17 outperform the other? 2. Which one was louder than the other doing intensive applications (like gaming or music editing)?

No G-Sync is also available for 15 r3 also. My 15r3 came with a G-Sync display

Hi Adam, I am sure this would be the most noob question. Does the outer brown box have the service tag/Express service code, so that I can confirm if the RAM speed is 2133 Mhz or 2400 Mhz before opening it? Your help is much appreciated.
Mine is 17 r4 and I'm having trouble with the speakers even reinstalled the drivers and still have problems they sound distorted. If someone knows how can I fix it let me know if not maybe I'll return it it's a shame because it's a great laptop

Can you also check the temperature especially while gaming or under heavy load. Most say that these have issues and needs re pasting thermal pastes for these to function better and avoid throttling. Thanks :D
Alienware already responded to than one by changing how they apply the termal paste,they got all new process for that.You should check some forums for more info.

That's not entirety true I got a Kaby Lake i7 in my 17 and after gaming for 15 mins the CPU almost reaches 100 degrees. I have overclocked it to 4.1 ghz but those temps are not acceptable. I received the laptop mid April.
Miki Pavlovik is still having so many issues. The thermal control is awfull in this laptop.
Brett Bremer ffs you overclovked to 4.1 a LAPTOP processor, i have a full size-liquid cooled i7 6700k and i get 80 degrees after half an hour and over 90 after 6 hours full load... and it's LIQUID COOLED and in a full tower.... what do you pretend man. idk people these days

Well after a repaste with grizzly kryonaut and a -.050 undervolt on the cpu overclocked to 4.2 ghz my max temps reach 86 degrees on BF1. So sorry to say the temps your getting make no sense and there is probably another issue with your rig.

Sayanta Seth media get units before they are released to market. they often come straight from OEM labs. sometimes the OS is resealed, sometimes it isn't.
Y'all must have got those for free because you are treating them real rough for an unboxing.
Those look like whored out review units so he doesn't care much. I've Never seen a new laptop come in a box without protection on the lid and between the screen/keyboard
lol diamondheat9, I've seen a lot of unboxing videos of these Alienware laptops, and I have a feeling Dell did not put any attention into protecting the screen from the keyboard with a piece of micro fiber cloth..Shame really.

Screen size, and thermals are typically better due to its larger size. It also has a numpad, which the 15 doesn't. Not a whole lot of difference.

With Alienware, you may as well buy one with a 1080 so its future proof. Or if you can't afford that then you should (most likely) but a desktop.

Look for a different brand then since Alienware provide Quality, Performance, but not a decent price. Take a look at Asus or Msi.

Two things that kinda sucks still. First the display bezel is horrible. The 15 could be a 17 with a bezel like that. Second the keyboard subpar in every category. I am not saying it totally sucks, there are alot of worse keyboards out there, but for the price point and the brand I expect more to be honest.

Check out MSI GT73VR 6RF(Titan Pro)-220 you throw a game at it with ultra settings and you won't even hear any complaints about overheating, like on alienware.

KingBlake man the 17 r4 has had so many fucking problems with over heating. If you play with everything in "ultra" for 3 hours the cpu fucking reachs 100 degrees. OMFG
