A song from my childhood! Polly Brown sang like an angel! And I love that old CKLW opening. That was the way to introduce this song in Detroit in 1970. Thanks!
Miss saturday nights cruisin with CKLW playing in my 68 firebird..
Love the Bill Drake voice over. The Johnny Mann Singers acappela jingle recorded here at the former RCA Studios on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood California.
Polly Brown has her own sound and style but does remind me of Dionne Warwick also.
I listen to this often. I’m in love with this one. Polly Browne is so lovely it should be a one hit wonder. I also lived on my own for a while in 2011 and i heard this. Reminds me what my parents listened to back then
It was a hit here they did have a couple of others, she was such a good singer, my 1st crush.
I love these classic sounds 🤩
Another underrated gem from my childhood. CKLW ruled!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks much. You may also like my internet radio station kvkvi.com featuring "Music Mike's Flashback Favorites" 24/7. KVKVI is influenced greatly by CKLW.....since I grew up with it, too.
Never heard this version! The only one we ever heard on NYC radio was The Fortunes. This is decidedly the better one! It should have been a bigger hit! CKLW was better than WABC by far!
@@frdjr2527 The Fortunes 's version did chart higher on Billboard's charts in the Top 50, but in Detroit/Windsor, it was this version that got the most airplay.
I played this song when I worked as a DJ at CJNB
This song brings back some great memories of laying by the poolside on a warm sunny day during summer vacation. Thank you for uploading this. The quality of the record is outstanding. I don't think I heard one scratch!
Listen to CKLW while I wasa kid growing up enjoyed the music from this station. The Motor City and Motown sound Aw the good ol days miss them!!
Forgot this band completely! Haven't heard this tune probably since 1970. Thanks!
havent heard this in over 40 years ,great then still is now
Lovely old tune from lovely Polly and Pickettywitch.
Wish they had kept going!
A truly great pop song, sung so very well by Polly, the drummer on here is the best too
Drummer is probably Clem Cattini, he is one of the best session musicians of the 60/70's, he played on over 50 No 1 's..
I miss that old feeling...
wow, sweet song. takes me waay back.
Thank you very much for this absolute gem!
I love this song takes you back 🌻
The 1969-70 period was when labels started to produce stereo 45's, but many didn't to cut costs. Polly Brown sounds a bit like another popular singer over there around the same time, Sally Carr of Middle of the Road, but unlike Sally, she did get her big US hit with "Up in a Puff of Smoke" for GTO in '75.
Precioso tema, gracias por recordarlo.
Nice to hear the original stereo mix. Thanks.
Groovy
I had this single when I was a kid.
Music Mike has great taste buds.
Fabulous record and sound I love you’ve posted this. Bloody marvellous 😄😄
Hello Mike.
I Always love to hear those greatest of all time jingles from "The Big 8, CKLW."
During the spring of 1970, I was one of "the board ops" at CKLW working with some of the greatest jock of the era.
If I may be so bold to suggest, tighten up on the production between the ID and the intro.
That delay, although measurable in microseconds, would have earned a phone call from Program Director Paul Drew ..... and trust me, when the big red light on "The Bat Phone" went off, almost blinding people in the control room and announce booth, it was pretty much never good news.
Cheers Mike .... keep up the excellent music, and the Motor City connection. You obviously have a passion for this material.
This great song doesn't seem like it would be from 1970--really a throwback to the mid 60s imho.Thank you for posting.
It was recorded is 1969 :)
It does sound like it was from maybe 1967. But it was recorded in 1969, and a hit in US, UK, and Canada in 1970. It's still a wonderful song. CKLW rules.
Overshadowed by Polly Brown's solo hit "Up In A Puff of Smoke" 5 years later, this forgotten tune is underrated.
Their follow up here in the UK is worth a mention. "Sad Old Kinda Movie"
Great intro, Mike. I remember hearing this on the Big 8...CKLW.
I Still Have the 8 Track, Hep That's Right
Love it summer time..
I could pick up CKLW in historic Gettysburg....!!!!
I remember listening to the Big 8 when I was a kid in Harrisburg, PA. at night.
Nice version...thank's Mike!
This was a bigger hit in Canada! #36 on RPM and TOP 30 on most Eastern Canada
Top 40 stations,Great stereo separation compared to your first post. Although this
group had many more hits in the UK, they had one more in Canada, Waldo P Emerson Jones which was the follow up single, written by Jeff Barry & Andy Kim and
also recorded by the Archies. Another Great Post Mike!
Good Info....thanks.
Voice similar to Deone Warwick
love song first time tohear
loveee this babe
glad you enjoyed
reminds me of my first dsicos hahahahhahahahah
...now i remember it..lol
Mike, have you ever heard Liz Damon's Orient Express cover version of this song? Great song by either artist.
este tema es del año 1970.
Great song. Have not heard this in over 40 years. Q: why is Bill Drake’s voice sped up on the CKLW intro?
I always thought that was Dionne Warwick. Who’s imitating who?
Is this Stereo version available on CD.
I don't think so.
