I can respect that my friend and there certainly are exceptions and I'm very glad you have had good luck with your products. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video
LCD panels have a lifespan of around 20 years, leaving them on 24 hrs just means they're reliable, does not take hardly anything off the lifespan, would not buy one off of a handtruck tho
That is a solid argument Billy amd for me it would still depend on a huge discount and solid warranty. Thank you for the excellent comment amd for watching the video and channel
I don't think it's so black and white. It depends on the situation. Best Buy has a ranking system for their open box based on the use. Some of them are simply store displays with no issues at all. Some have heavy markings and/or missing pieces. I just purchased an open box 55 inch Sony x900e for only $529.99. It was a floor display on a wall and there were no markings or scratches. The only thing was it was missing the stand and the remote. I bought it and got two years geek squad for a total of $675 after tax. Geek squad gives you one free replacement remote so I filed a claim as 'lost', and they even found the stand when I went to pick up so I got that too. Nevertheless. I bought a much nicer metal rotating extendable stand off Amazon for 59.99. So like $750 all things considered with a nicer stand. The TV could have been display on max 24/7 for a year and it would still only be at about 1/7 to 1/8 spent of the LED average expectant life , so I really don't think people need to worry much about being on all day unless someone was buying a TV and planning to heavily use it for 8 to 10 years. Tldr; open box can be an amazing deal, but you need to look for them. Don't buy a $1500 TV open box for $1350...that's not really a deal for a year old floor model. Use the best buy website to find open box in your area for cheaper than average, then see if you can inspect instore (best method). If unable to inspect but still a great deal, just use that return policy. Learn what a good value is and be patient, and be ready to hunt in spring when new models roll out
Excellent points and a very good analysis from every angle!! Nice job and thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching the video and channel
Just looking at an open box TV online ,,didn’t even think they probably had this on in store for endless hours ?? You’ve opened my eyes about this game and saved me maybe a heap of hassle ,,,, I will now of course give this a wide berth ,,,many thanks for your info ,,,,,,
Tvs are on 11 hours a day thats about 4000 hours a year on a tv if u buy a store demo unit , and they are disigned to last around 100 000 hours or about 12 years, i used to think the same way , until i bought a s90c oled for 284 bucks , reatil price was 1800 bucks ,the thing still had the screen protector on it , i bought the s95b for full price at 3k and by 6 months in it had 1800 hours on it l, so it dont matter to me anymore , i got a killer deal om the s90c, almost 80 percent off
I'm not saying you can't my friend just be very careful and make sure you get a full warranty. Good luck and thank you for your comment and for watching the video
Thank you Keri and I'm glad you found the video useful. Now there are exceptions and are situations where people simply bring back a display that they didn't like however retail stores typically don't take back high end displays because they changed their mind as once that display is open it cannot be sold as new and since there is know trade on options like cars then lightly used isnt an option either. So its either a display used in store meaning it on full blast vivid mode for 12hours a day for 7 days a week . Or in my case the defective displays that I had returned I would later see on sale as open box without notes listing the existing defects such as dead pixels , flashlighting and edge lit bleed. Now the exception is a chip on the frame or something like that which doesnt effect the picture and has a full warranty however I just wouldn't chance it . These are also very heavy and delicate pieces of tech that are moved around by staff that could care less. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video and channel
Whisper Status 74 hey hi there! Thank you for your response, I actually went to Best Buy and bought a brand new 4k Samsung 7100 series, and got a great deal on it, $599, but I definitely saw what you meant in the store, I actually was thinking about you when I walked by that gross looking rack LOL, I do understand there's exceptions to every rule. But given my choice with a big ticket item I'd always like to buy it brand new. Like they say nobody wants somebody else's problems right LOL, thanks again Keri
That is great news Keri!! Congratulations on your new display and please let me know how you like its performance! Thank you for thinking of me while at bestbuy as I really want this channel/community to be a friendship as I don't know more than you do as I'm just a friend offering a little advice . Thank you for being part of this community and please jump in those comments and thank you for taking the time to follow up .
Best Buy sell display OLED tv as used and advertised as excellent or good, ask manager of store to find out it was store display with no remote, power code and stand model was Sony a95k OLED tv store display
My first TV in the US was an open box 😂. The LCD did not really have burn in or died on me but the backlight did. Considering to change the backlight but the TV is already 3 years old so it seems the choice is just to get another TV.
Open box prices are a joke. Just wait for it to go on sale and save even more money. Someone returned that item because they didn’t like it. It could have been dropped, damaged or abused. Ok for you, but I’m not taking that chance just to save a couple hundred bucks for a $2000+ tv.
Hi there. Today I bought the 75" Samsung 8K Q900RB from my local BestBuy. I bought the store demo for $3000 CAD or $2275 USD. I aIso purchased the 5 year bestbuy extended warranty. I am getting a bit nervous though since it is the demo unit. The unit looked fine in the store but I suppose that doesn't mean much. Would you say that the price is compelling enough to justify getting a store demo unit? Is there anything I should check on the unit like try to get the actual service hours? I have a few weeks before delivery to cancel the purchase. I am also having Bestbuy deliver and install the unit so I suppose we could verify dead pixels right there with the geek squad.
I’d say if you are on a tight budget, it’s best to get a open boxed instead of a new, i was looking for a Galaxy Tab S6 and it was 530$ and the guy told us that there was one that was an open box at 435$
Hey bro, I got my Sony 950G 85" in August open box floor model. As of last week, discrepancies of lines have appeared on the TV. Geek squad arrived today informing me that they will send the info to Sony and if it can't get fixed, I will get a refund less than I paid for the open box..SMFH. Complete BS. I paid $1800 and this TV is discontinued. I can't afford to add almost $2000 for a model equivalent to my 950G. Any advice?
So sorry to hear your going through this bro. I would be more firm with best buy in regards to selling you a clearly defective panel that was most likely returned due to said defect. Then I'd also contact Sony directly as they are typically very good. Please let me know how you make out
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you the info. I eventually went to best buy yesterday and was able to get the 950G exchanged for a 900H with onlyt paying $18.51. I am blessed and highly favored. Luckily this situation happened around black friday so I was able to come across that deal.
At big box stores like that they offer protection plans where they will repair or replace for 60 bucks 2 years and 80 bucks for 5 years even on open box items.
They do! However it's still not a chance worth taking. If you've ever been In a return battle or warranty battle you'd be shocked at how long it takes and the fine print on said warranty. I've also returned many displays with terrible banding and flashlighting, dead pixels and those same displays were back on sale reduced but without a single note as to why they were returned.
My brother got an open box oled c6 for 950 dollars because the Best Buy employees put the wrong price tag on it hahah. I’d never go open box unless it’s a deal like that
I agree with that in general especially best buy but I trust Crutchfield. You get the full warranty and they will take care of you. My 900E was from Crutchfield scratch and dent. Now it just so happens the scratch and dent they sent me was broken, screen was a big ole mess. So I got a 55X900E for 854 bucks. That was a pretty good deal but in general I completely agree with you.
Maybe I'm The unlucky one I bought an RCA 27 inch TV it was an open box floor model regularly priced at $249 I got it for 149 it did not last less than one year one day I went to turn it on and it did not work at all. It was completely gone. It cost more to fix then what I bought it for oh I didn't mention that it had a DVD player integrated in the unit.
I'm so sorry to hear that Maria☹ unfortunately the quality is so still so hit or miss no matter the brand and the open box seems to narrow it even further. Thank you so much for your honest comment and for watching the video and channel
Thank you my friend and like I said in the video all of my defective displays were all for sale with no notes of any kind that would indicate their issues
More for me I guess, because this is such outdated info. In fact even at the time this video was made it was bad info. TV's and monitors that have been on display don't get sold as an open box item and never have. The reason these exist is simply because the item was not wanted after purchase and was returned, usually in pristine condition but the manufactures seal has been broken therefore it cannot be sold at retail price. It is not because these have BEEN USED FOR TWO YEARS 18 hours a day. The display unit are never sold to consumers usually. Sure we all know the person that desperately needs said Display unit and somehow they are able to convince the retailer to sell. That is pretty uncommen and I imagine they may sell them on a actual second "used Market". Best Buy is not a used marketsor second hand retailer so they do not sell used items unless it has been thoroughly tested and refurbished making it a new Refurbished item.
That is really true never buy any open box it’s like buying a shoes online without trying and try it on if your comfortable to wear it. if you really understand what electronic is tv is very fragile never buy it online either they toss like a piece of cardboard for delivery mostly the heavy one brand new is always better to buy guaranteed.
They let me check out their MacBooks open box and I saw one in it's original packaging and original screen cover brand spanking new someone just didnt want it , was not set up. It was a very good deal I got 15 percent off already 70 off on MacBook it was with the new m1 chip. Well worth the money love the new MacBook no way I could have got it for 700 for a brand new device
I know that Best Buy stores in my area leave their TVs display models on 24/7, 365 days a year.....and they typically offer a 10% discount on display models around here. Nowhere in hell is it worth it, in my opinion. Most panel TVs only have a 7-11 year lifespan (about 100,000 hours of usage). If a TV is left on 24 hours a day for one whole year, that's 8, 760 hours off its lifespan. Not only that, constant usage increases the chance of failure due to overheated components that don't have time to rest. On top of that, if these televisions are getting dirty electricity (unregulated and polluted electricity) which happens anywhere unless you have a power conditioner (as Panamax, Furman, and Tripp-Lite offer), this will also affect both performance and lifespan. Add in the heat factor from so many sets being crammed together and the HVAC probably being shut off after business hours (most of these big box stores have automated systems controlling the HVAC now)...you're just looking at a device that's been run hard and hasn't been taken care of.
Really appreciate it Tom!! Thank you for joining the community as its really a great group of helpful people! Please jump in those comments and check the older videos and also thank you for taking the time to comment in such a thorough and informative way
I was told by a guy at best buy that some open box items are never turned off they Keep them on day and night the only ones they turn off are the oled at night.
Open box can be tricky as there are times that they are simply returns , defective returns and then as you mentioned display items which they also sell that are running non stop 12 hours a day and 7 days a week. The issue is which is which as typically there is no information accompanying them at purchase which is why I'm very cautious of open box as a viable option. Great comment!!
I find that very hard to believe considering just energy prices for a retailer to leave them full blast all night? Maybe in some random locations. I've been there pretty early and prettu late before they are on and after they are off so perhaps its a store by store situation?
Great Question! I don't recommend open box or store display as they are run 10 to 15 hours a day for 7 days . The z9f is a flagship and I'm sure its very enticing but i wouldn't. As for open box I personally have returned several defective displays with serious problems like dead pixels, banding and flashlighting and then saw those displays for sale as open box with zero notes to indicate the issues that I sent them back for. My advice would be know my friend but if you do risk it please make sure that you have a great store and manufacturers warranty. Good luck and I hope this helps and please follow up and let me know how it goes! Thank you for also watching the video and channel
This is so helpful! I always wonder what it meant when they state it’s open box. Which is the obvious statement open box meaning used or displayed. Hmmmmm thinking of getting a new tv but definitely know. Or I always wonder do they take the one off the wall and state the tv was fresh and new. I had my tv for 2 years and it started to lose value like it still works but it flickers with the internet so it shuts or freezes and gave it to my brother in-law but I don’t know maybe it’s certain areas or internet go doesn’t hold a lot but anyways thanks for the review.
I'm glad you found the video helpful my friend! Each store is different but many times they are defective and boxed back up. If you go this route just make sure you have a very solid warranty . Thank you so much for your comment and for watching the video and channel

LMAO HAHAHA yeah right and do you actually think the ups or FedEx handles your tv that you order with love and passion??? If you do you're a fool because my buddy works for FedEx and I know how they handle everything.
It’s good advice. You need to be careful. Interestingly, I bought lg c8 oled from frys that wasn’t available and they offered to give me a better deal on a e7 that was an open box. I’m not sure why it was. There’s nothing wrong with it. I just recently bought a Samsung Q9FN that was sold out but they offered the last one that was the demo unit. There are no defects on the television nor on the panel. So I got lucky.
Great comment justin and there are definitely exceptions my friend and I'm glad it worked out for you. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video and channel

Same here I will not buy an open-box television at all. I need my TV to be brand-new in the Box that never been open. , I bought a brand new Vizio 48 in HD television at Best Buy brand new in the box never been open

Best Buy is not a used marketsor second hand retailer so they do not sell used items unless it has been thoroughly tested and refurbished making it a new Refurbished item. In the past 6 months alone I have saved $5000+ shopping open box from Best Buy. This includes Gaming laptops, Gaming monitors, SSDs, SoDIMM, DIMMs, and Phone Cases. Only had to return one laptop and that was because It was supposed to have the RTX 2070 Super mobile GPU but it turned out to just be a regular RTX 2070. I specifically bought that laptop because it featured the newer( at the time) 'Super' variant. I dont think this was intentionally mislabled, or improperly but maybe is was falsely marketed to the help get the product sold quicker. Who knows! What I do know is I never felt like I made the wrong choice because any time the item isn't to my standards or at least doesn't match the product description then I would obviously return the item and try again but I never lost money due to buying an open box item. I also have bought open box and received products that were listed as OPEN-BOX FAIR said to have scuff, scratches, or signs or use and not a single one of the items I've bought have been in any other condition that MINT CONDITION, as if I bought it brand new but without the buyer remorse and guilt!
The lifespan of an Led should be years and last as long as you need it it to Realistically 6 to 10 years depending on how you maintain it. Hope this helps and thank you for your question and for watching the video and channel
Thinking of picking up an open box 65in Q90r samsung. Seems to be a good deal and offering a standard warranty, any issue persay with it being on for 10+ hrs straight for nearly 2 years? I can't imagine a tv these days are not capable of that. But then again I am not a professional tv reviewer or employee at an electronics store
You'll be fine Nick as long as you have that warranty! The q90r is phenomenal. Just make sure your covered beyond the return window. Please follow up and let me know how it goes and thank you for your comment and for watching the video and channel
You don't really save too much on open box. I'd never buy .. and if you do tell them you want employees discount. 10% added to wholesale. Saves you a lot more.
Phones are a little less risky in regards to being refurbished. Also due to their size and weight they are less prone to fail as they typically either work or they don't where displays have a wide range of issues.
I commented on another Video but I do believe it all depends on how knowledgeable you are prior to purchasing the tv. I had them run some all Red and Green screens on the OLED I got 50% off, looking for burn in. I didn't even know Vertical banding was an issue on OLED until I seen it while playing Resident evil lol. If I had known prior to purchase I would have run some tests to confirm is if banding was present. I was only worried about burn in and tempted to return the E7 for the E8 lmao if it is flawless. Do all OLEDS have banding in some capacity?
You will see some banding on most displays , on oleds it may show up in the 15% grey transition and in a game like resident evil which has smoke , fire, fog and hazy sunshine all in the same spot it's very tricky . If you read any review of an oled on rtings there is a little caption explaining banding with grey especially. Not every open box is bad I just dont recommend it and wouldnt but one myself but that doesnt mean that you didn't get a really good one either. Great comment my friend.
Mario Borojevic I ran a couple tests and it was sold to me as brand new. Manufacturer's warranty still honored and I purchased a 3 year return warranty. This tv is still $4k on Amazon I got it for $1954. For that price I couldn't pass it up. The banding on mine isn't drastic only in one spot so all things considered. I am happy with my purchase.
They will look like drak grey dots on your screen or they will look stuck with a particular color. There are many test on CZcams however if you don't see any dont go looking
Totally agree with you on that bro! I remember when I went to get a Sony 930E, The sticker said Geek Squad certified, with no missing parts. For $200 less than brand new I thought it was a great deal. I got it home, the panel was in great condition I was happy, until it was time to set it up and put it together.... It didn't come with any screws. I was pissed! The TV was heavy AF and I had to reload it back to take it back! I was so mad at the time!

What else do we expect. Open box shouldn't be brand new products. I have been buying open box items and i have no problems with it. There is open box certified, excellent, satisfactory and fair condition. You probably be talking about fair condition which most likely displayed products. Go for open box excellent.
Great comment J Ken and I'm so glad you have had good experiences with open box. In my experience the defective panels I have returned for various reasons, vertical banding, flashlighting, dead pixels all bought at the same store were all on display as open box without any notes to indicate the defects that I knew were there . Sold as basically new and when I asked why they were being sold as open box that the guy who sent them back just didn't like it or changed his mind that guy being me was a bit of a problem. If you dont mind I maybuse this comment on another vid on yue subject as you make excellent points. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video!
My pleasure Keith! Please let me know if you need any help or questions about a display or gaming! Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment

I’d say if you are on a tight budget, it’s best to get a open boxed instead of a new, i was looking for a Galaxy Tab S6 and it was 530$ and the guy told us that there was one that was an open box at 435$
Excellent honest comment my friend! Thank you for watching the video and channel
Well I just got lucky today. Got a sony a80l 55 inch with only 1 hr run time manufacture date of april 2024 for only 850 plus tax.
And never buy a TV from a Pawn Shop either.
Great advice Terance!! Thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching the video.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I learned the hard way.
Tell me the story Terance!
Hey bro,
I got my Sony 950G 85" in August open box floor model.
I’d never go open box unless it’s a deal like that
The Undertaker Yea right 😀😆😂🤣
Mario Borojevic lol the young Best Buy employees make tons of mistakes and about stupid as hell. Are you a Best Buy employee?😂😂
That is the only time I'd do it😂😂
I agree with that in general especially best buy but I trust Crutchfield.
Crutchfield is very good with all their products and service
I bought a washing machine and microwave... They both were on display.. So pllzz tell me did i make a mistake?
I got a open box sony 4k player but I did get a warranty with it from best buy
As long as it has a warranty and is covered then you are good👍
Whisper Status 74 ol yes I got that geek squad plan
Nice job!
Good advice. Yeah I never buy open box electronics, especially with tvs. Chances are other users returned them for possible defects.
Excellent comment and thank you for watching the video and channel
No problem my friend God bless
Very well said Tom especially including the power that is used in store! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for watching the video

Wish I had a store with that many tv's near were I live.i would be like a kid in a sweet shop.
Thanks for the insight you prolly saved me some money off a bad monitor
My pleasure my friend! Monitors even more so as they are even more problematic in regards to ips glow and dead pixels. Great comment and thank you
I was told by a guy at best buy that some open box items are never turned off they Keep them on day and night the only ones they turn off are the oled at night.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY the oleds are turned off at night the led tvs are on 24 /7 They never get turned off i was told.
I find that very hard to believe considering just energy prices for a retailer to leave them full blast all night? Maybe in some random locations. I've been there pretty early and prettu late before they are on and after they are off so perhaps its a store by store situation?
I found a 65in z9f for $1500 is it worth it being open box and also its turned on for display

Sad but true!

Those TVs do not weight 80 lbs, relax. What did you say about the turn on and off time?
my 930e weighs almost 100lbs.
Sorry ricko but yes they do! My 75" is 100lbs and 65" full array are also very heavy!

I dont buy used pc gear nor open boxed tvs...Just me dont know whats it been though or who handled it...
Very true
With you ... They leave it work 24/7

quick question what's the lifespan on a Sony x800e 4k ?
The lifespan of an Led should be years and last as long as you need it it to
Realistically 6 to 10 years depending on how you maintain it. Hope this helps and thank you for your question and for watching the video and channel

Are you TV shopping again????
No way !!😂😂😂😂 not going through that nightmare again for awhile!
What brand/type of TV would you recommend?
All depends on what your usage is my friend as well as your size and budget. Please let me know and I'm happy to help 😁
You don't really save too much on open box. I'd never buy .. and if you do tell them you want employees discount. 10% added to wholesale. Saves you a lot more.
That's a good point Nick! Thank you
Is it the same with open box smartphones? Or will they slightly be in better condition?
Phones are a little less risky in regards to being refurbished. Also due to their size and weight they are less prone to fail as they typically either work or they don't where displays have a wide range of issues.
Same problems I came across. Valid point.
Thank you my friend and thank you for watching the video
are open box iphones okay though?
If you have an extensive warranty then I'd go for it!
Thank u
My pleasure Jay!! I'm here if you need any help with choosing a display! Thank you for your comment and for watching the video
Do all OLEDS have banding in some capacity?
theoneb22000 Never buy an OLED that's been store displayed!!!
Great comment! The only really bad burn in that I have seen out in the wild has been in store . Thanks for commenting
I am happy with my purchase.
theoneb22000 and you shouldn't have! Just enjoy it bro
Those tv’s don’t weigh 80 pounds😂
🤣🤣💪
How do you know if you have dead pixels?
They will look like drak grey dots on your screen or they will look stuck with a particular color. There are many test on CZcams however if you don't see any dont go looking
What’s up whisper how’s it going you do know that most leds have about a 100,000 hour lifespan!!!!!!
Michael!!!!! How's it going bro! I do! however having the display on 12hours a day at 7 days a week on vivid setting is more than I would risk.
You can sometimes get lucky but I would never chance it!! Thanks as always Damon!
Whisper Status 74 for real bro. Happy with the Samsung that I made sure was purchased unopened!
