    Interesting fact, While Mell Brooks did not need nore want George Lucas's permission to make Space Balls he did want ti find out if he had problems with it, the reality is George Lucas apparently loved the idea of the film and offered the services of ILM for free so long as they did not merchandise the film, Mell took the deal and the whole merchandising segment in the film is a joke to that deal, also ILM also used some unused star wars footage in Space Balls

    Vespa = Dorothy
    Lonestar = Scarecrow

    Also, yes Vespa is a brand of scooter made by an Italian company.
    Vespa is the Italian word for "wasp".
    W.A.S.P. is also an acronym in the U.S. standing for White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Usually used in a derogatory way to describe someone usually upper class or at least upper middle class who are privileged and act like they think they are better than others because of that.

    while the movie is primarily a parody of Star Wars, it does have bits and pieces parodying other scifi space films and media checkered throughout.
    one other joke, right there at the beginning. Mel wanted to make an hour and a half cut of the ship slowly panning by. this was of course, shot down.
    Oh, if you go back, pay attention when Dark Helmet says 'how many assholes we got on this ship?', everyone but the guy on the left at the console stands up and says they are. that guy is sitting where the grunt that went over his helmet at the beginning is sitting.
    Oh, Radar Guy is Michael Winslow, aka the Sound Effects Guy. All those effects he was doing himself, including the muffled bit with the intercom.
    Mel played both Scrooge and Yogurt in the movie, as you could probably tell. Fun fact, Mel was actually allergic to something in the face paint for the Yogurt makeup. So he couldn't do those scenes very long.
    Another fun fact. when they did the bit where they threatened to make Vespa's nose look like her old one, when the home release happened, it was of course still during an era of having the home or theatrical edition, home edition cutting the movie's edges off to fit a normal tv. Well, when they reveal the old nose, the home edition had cut it away, leaving it a mystery for anyone that didn't see the theatrical version.

    Fanboys is a movie you should definitely check out! Also, while "more recent"..... the "View Askewniverse" movies done by Kevin Smith(Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II, and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot). I think that's the right order.... but check the release dates..... you should definitely do them in release order. Much like Star Wars, they all fit together, and tell an overall story. I also heard that Clerks III recently wrapped filming.... and I honestly can't wait to watch it! Some may find these movies(as well as a few of the Mel Brooks movies) offensive..... don't buy into that mentality. Remember, these are COMEDIES! You can't take them seriously!
    I recently saw the "Mr. Video" channel do the movie Grandma's Boy.... which is quite possibly THE funniest movie I've ever seen in my life(at least, to me).... so put THAT one on your list, as well.

    The Ford Galaxy is a large multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) produced by Ford of Europe since June 1995. The first Ford-brand MPV produced and marketed outside of North America, the model line is currently in its third generation. Sharing its platform architecture with the Ford Mondeo, the Galaxy was developed alongside the Ford S-MAX; the model line is slotted between the Connect and Custom variants of the Ford Tourneo/Transit model family.

    Someone may or may not have cleared this up, but the Ford Galaxy joke was a pun on the Ford Galaxy, which was a car. Same with Jupiter 2, as that was the name of the ship in Lost in Space.

    Ok here are the rest of the Mel Brooks movies:
    The Producers (1968 - both Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder's first movie. Some time after it was released a woman in a lift said to him 'I saw your film Mr Brooks and it was vulgar', to which he grinned and said 'Lady, it was below vulgar'.)
    The Twelve Chairs (not as funny as the rest but great opening and end credits song and still had some great moments)
    Blazing Saddles (glad to see it on the 'to watch' list)
    Young Frankenstein (also glad to see it on the 'to watch list')
    Silent Movie (only 1 spoken word in the whole movie)
    History of the World Part 1 (make sure you stay for the trailer for History of the World Part 2)
    High Anxiety (though as it's a tribute to/parody of Alfred Hitchcock movies you'll need to watch some more of his first)
    To Be Or Not To Be (he didn't direct it but he starred in it with his wife Anne Bancroft, I think it's a remake of a 40s movie)
    Life Stinks (again not one of his best but still got some good scenes in it)
    Robin Hood: Men in Tights
    Dracula: Dead and Loving It
    The Producers (2005 - movie of the musical remake of the original 60s movie, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane reprised the roles they originated on Broadway, I was reduced to tears of laughter 5 times when I first saw it)
    In most of them you can expect the fourth wall to be destroyed at least once and can also expect some sort of joke about the Nazis - Mel Brooks is Jewish (birth name Melvin Kaminsky) and one of the aims of his movies is to make Hitler and the Nazis seem so ridiculous that they'll never come into power again, and to basically show that racists are all idiots. Turns out there are a lot of ways to make fun of racists and nazis, and when people say that his movies could never be made today I always think "the sad truth is that no one could do what Mel Brooks did for the simple reason that they're just no where near as funny as Mel Brooks'.

I am sure there is more but can't recall right now. There is so much. I have watched this movie several times over the years and still find little details I've missed.
