- Have you ever bought a Niche fragrance thinking the notes look lovely and the brand is well known only to realize later that the fragrance is quite disappointing and in some cases realy disgusting?

Your description of Panda had me in tears. Hilarious. Most niche fragrances have disappointed me. So many fake ouds or scents highly inspired by cheaper designer fragrances. I have smelled a lot of beautiful niche, but I have also smelled amazing cheapies such as the Encre Noire line. Makes me wonder what's the point of spending so much money when there are a lot of great fragrances under $100.

OMG! This review is hilarious. 🤣Your descriptions are absolutely insane! I love your style. You paint such a vivid picture in my mind and your choice of words is unparalleled. Maybe lucky for me that I have never tested any of the fragrances that you mentioned.😎 In addition I had just sat down to eat my yogurt and I almost could not eat. I was nearly shocked into a catatonic state. But for real, this is too funny. You truly have a fantastic sense of humor and possess an enormous talent. I am a very verbal person myself. I can tell the version of Panda you had tested was the original version because of its colour. The 2017 version is light green, and it is designed by the same perfumer of Camel, which you loved.

I much preferred the old version of Panda. Such an interesting scent. Why did you change it so drastically? The new Panda smells nothing like the original version. The new version smells like a designer scent. It doesn't suit the Zoologist brand IMO. Has Bat ever been reformulated?

Let me tell you that i subscribed your channel after watching a video, where you reviewed a Tauer fragrance, which you disliked and every other reviewer was hyping it. That fragrance is no more in reviews. You were right about that.

Well done - was fun. Excellent, entertaining descriptions of some "challenging" scents. I think there is a benefit to us subscribers when reviewers reveal what they don't like -though some of these seem "special." My initial thought was that the designer list would be less difficult - mass producers go for mass appeal - but then I remembered that designers can excel at disappointing even when they don't "stink." (they reformulate, for example, making me consider paying retail, which is horrifying)
Brilliant points Michael, and i will use your point for sure. I also want to go beyond the obvious on the designers list as there are more people who use designer fragrances.
Look forward to seeing your choices, always informative explanations, AC. Confessing just acquired Spicebomb Extreme at retail. Will likely purch Bleu Parfum this year to go with my other 4 Chanels. Otherwise no modern designers at retail for me in while - hurts every time.
What do you think of SB Extreme mate, is it worth sampling?
Caught in dumb blind-buy; Jan 2019 bottle. To my newbie nose, Extreme is less spicy at opening; added cinnamon and vanilla seem to replace the bubblegum meets caramel dry-down -which I do not like - of my reformed orig. I aver that Extreme has been neutered. My zeal to own overtook the frag mantra, "there is a new flanker out, therefore the prior edition / flanker has been reformulated." May be anosmia or skin, but this seems weak after less than 1 hr of expansive but very diffuse projection. I'd recommend what I should have done - smell it in Sephora or somewhere if possible. Didn't see on ebay for any kind of good price for years. Still love Spicebomb's first 2-3 hours. Alexandria's expression of original only makes dry-down louder, longer, so no relief there. Alas. Evening Tobacco perfection search continues . . . Edit - wrong should have tested further - now do now think was reformulated 2-3 hours+ projection, 6-8++ longevity. Like this better than orig.

I agree with most of your comments except for Baikal gris from Areej le Dore. I really don"t understand how just can just smell clay. To me I do smell the green (birch and fir) as well as the ambergris. There is also a trace of sweetness to this fragrance. I often wear this fragrance and its one of the only Areej le Dore that I get lots of compliments. Maybe you got a bad sample, try to give it another try maybe.
Could be Daniel, I have given it two wears and all I get is clay :(, there is absolutely no development. I have the official sample. If you look at the comments below a lot of people were not impressed with Baikal, although some like you were.

Honestly Doni, Putrid Machine may definitely have been a better choice. I have suddenly come to realize that these videos can actually help people.
Sorry to pile on, but I've tried a half dozen samples of various Zoologist and I am of the opinion that all/most of their fragrances are based in the urine of the animal on the label !
Hahaha I wasn't expecting that. I have tried Civet and Camel and do like those two, but yes they have the urine like element as you say. These creations are not for the faint of heart I think.

Fantastic! I think critical reviews are positive. Its good to hear both sides and it can open your mind to further critical thinking. I love Baikal Gris 😍. I was disappointed with musc intense, it seems like a typical white/ laundry musk scent that can be obtained at lower prices. I've tried the old Panda and it was very harsh and strong on the green synthetic notes. Its quite difficult and doesn't really hit the brief i think. Have you tried the other Zoologist scents?
I am trying to do this myself but if i ever write a negative review on instagram, i try to think how it can be improved in general or maybe offer an alternative. I'm still undecided on writing negative reviews on small indie/ one man shows. I don't want to affect them financially but i don't want to lie. I think its just easier to avoid reviewing indie creations i don't like.
you absolutely nailed the objective of critical reviews and now having experienced it myself I am going to do some more. I truly got nothing out of Baikal which really was disappointing as I was truly hoping to like it.
The other zoologist fragrances I have tested are Civet and Camel and liked both of them from start to finish.

I think you should write negative reviews as indie houses have high mobility and can do tweaks to change the fragrances as per your specifications.

I must confess I feel the same way about all of them. I always overspray imperial, but I think erolfa replaced it for me and as bad as erolfa is, I get good longevity. I didn't order baikal because Adam sent me the sample. He released on better in Atlantic ambergris before so baikal was not worth it. Zoologist needs to apologize to you... Oh so funny.. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂.
Agreed, Atlantic Ambergris was way much better than Baikal Gris. The projection on AA was so intense shining due to it's high quality ambergris. ☕😉👍

Munish, the musk I featured is not from any brand. I got it on ebay, and the seller basically sells real stuff like Rooh Khus, Musk, oud oils and they are very reasonable here in the UK.
It's called Kasturi musk? Do you know as good rose attar to get I know rose is expensive, but looking for under $100
Kyle, it is called Kasturi Musk indeed, as far Rose is concerned I would say Rose Heart by Abdes Salam , you can look on profumo.it, its very expensive though. Ensar Rose by Sultan Pasha is also quite gorgeous but again very expensive. Good Attars are generally very expensive :(
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews I', dreaming I think that I can get a cheap rose attar. I've been wanting to get Ensar Rose, I didn't think I could find a cheap rose attar. I just got 3 bottles from Ensar, it'll be a month or 2 before I can get Ensar Rose. Thanks for the ideas and I love these negative videos, Victor is pretty cool at Zoology. There are as couple on my list that I didn't like from Zoology but that's what happens when you put creativity first. Great video made me laugh 😅

I do want that clay now as I actually like Baikal. I was only slightly hard on the beloved Oud Luwak and received garbage for that. But I loved this video we need more of the truth either way it will give us better perfumes in the long run that is my take.

I am with you on Luwak, its pretty average. Using high quality ingredients is not enough you also need expert perfumery to go with it.

@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews LOL I get where you are coming from. I am glad they called this grey ambergris in the notes. It's an unrefined ambergris I actually play with the cheaper stuff and this reminds of that I actually like the ambergris used in it. It is cheaper, but I think some of the moss and fir come through for me. This plays out a lot more on my skin than a tester. On a tester before writing this I could not pick up the notes as clearly. It's an interesting ingredient.
See I really like the way you have explained the notes and just out of curiosity I clicked on your name and to my surprise you turned out to be a reviewer, so I subbed straight away.
I was speaking to a friend of mine and I asked him weather he got the same type reactions to Baikal as me and he was the same as you , but the point that got me interested is, you saying that it could be cheaper ambergris which is quite contrary to the impression I carried in my mind around the quality of ingredients that are being used by Areej le Dore.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews BTW I really love your channel and thoughts on fragrance. I watched ever since the first time you came up in my feed. You bring a ton of things to my attention never would have had otherwise.
About the ingredient I don't mean to say ALD uses cheap ingredients I think any ambergris is exquisite compared to the synthetic junk almost everything else uses. I personally only have black, gold, and white ambergris as small samples in raw material. They are all three way different in smell and effect on what they touch. I applaud that ALD actually said they were using grey on their ingredients list, most people wouldn't tell you and let you assume it was a white or gold. That's all my point was is that I think the big clay effect thats in there is from the grey version itself. This is the first time in anything I know of that I have smelled grey. I quite like the muddy effect, but can see how some would not.

I wholeheartedly agree that Creed Imperiale Millesime is indeed a great disappointment. I love the smell so much, but it just does not perform. It is a pitty.

Parfums Vintage rush of unicorns is worth it about the only thing they got right. Don't buy anything else from them scratchy quality especially vanilla intense 👎👎👎☠no vanilla at all and no email to get your money back it's a dupey scam house with no way to get in touch with them 140$ on a fragrance with worse performance than mugler cologne. DRACDOC was right... should have listened to the OG
Thank you Mark, I appreciate great scents as you say and I want my subscribers to experience those good ones as you say. Doing this video and the warm reception it received made me realize that there is merit in bringing the bad ones to light as well.
I wasn't aware that there is no customer service with Parfums Vintage. You are right about them, all clone houses are the same.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews but rush of unicorns (creed imperial clone) Excellent love that one girls really like how fresh it is. Side note when or if you buy it get a good couple of sprays out and let it sit for a few weeks. 5-6hr performance more if you spray your clothes
