the interplay of the 5ths, on the guitar riff/bassline, add that austere, powerful musical backdrop...this song is like a modren, musical "Euripdes" tragedy....the music...simple....powerful.....even the vid, whereby his bandmates stand by, stoic, giving him (Errol Brown) "center stage" to tell his sad tale.....
This was (well IS) one of my all time favorite songs. I discovered it as a young teen in the 70s. It haunted me. The music haunted me. The lyric haunted me. His voice haunted me. I had the 45 and if I listened to it once, that was it, that was how my afternoon was spent - listening to "Emma" over and over. I was captivated. Spellbound. Sometime I would have an Emma/Seasons In the Sun afternoon, but normally it was one or the other. Errol Brown's voice, I must say was much more mesmerizing, by far, I must say, but both songs captivated me. Still to this day, when I listen to Emma, I listen to it repeatedly. Not for 4 or 5 hours like i did like when I was teen, but still, let's just say more than an hour. (Don't get me wrong, I did listen to up beat happy songs! I wasn't like a precursor to the EMO trend or anything LOL. I just found out today that you passed and was deeply saddened. You obviously had a profound impact on me and my development, and I am thankful for that. I recently moved and couldn't lay my hands on my copy of "Emma" and was looking to listen to it and in the process I found your obit. I know I'm very late, but rest in peace Errol. The world lost a great musician, singer and artist May 6, 2015. Show 'em in Heaven what music is really about.

Canción de 1978; que hermosos recuerdos; gracias Hot Chocolate, por tanta felicidad vivida. Junio del 2020, en plena cuarentena, recordándola.
Brilliant, another classic which is sung from deep in his heart.
Just been watching Top of the Pops 1964-1974. Great music.
The best year of my life for sure 🇬🇧👍👍
Caught it today listening on Sirius XM in the car, channel 70s on 7
i play this song almost everyday. It's one that's stuck in my head ever since it came out. I'm playing it now on Super Hits of the 70's Vol. 14.
Never again a guitar cried like this one....amazing... even decades later
It's always amazing how little you need, from a musical standpoint, to make an awesome song. This is so simple, but still so great.
the interplay of the 5ths, on the guitar riff/bassline, add that austere, powerful musical backdrop...this song is like a modren, musical "Euripdes" tragedy....the music...simple....powerful.....even the vid, whereby his bandmates stand by, stoic, giving him (Errol Brown) "center stage" to tell his sad tale.....
Well written.
Errol Brown the man with a voice as smooth as velvet & satin trousers as tight as skin. The two coolest black dudes of the 70's were Errol & John Shaft. You were a class act sir & will be much missed by your legions of fans here in the UK.
Oh so hauntingly beautiful music of the 70s, this one fills me with all sorts of emotions ❤🙂😪
This song gets me every time ..so beautiful
Such a hauntingly sad, lovely song. One of my favs.
