Certainly the chillest ever written.
It's a perfect song, the vocals, the musicality, the subjects it's written about, etc. sheer perfection ❤️

FUNKY, can't beat the old style, not a thing like it now, magic 👍
Say something original oh you have oh listening in 2024 oh boring 😢😢
I'm listening to this. It's amazing, isn't it? Makes me wish I was born in 1980's, preferably the 70's, of course.
Marvin, Michael, Prince, Tupac….. we’ve lost a lot of good ones since then. 🙏🏻
Tina and Whitney too!!!
And Sting, Mark Hollis, Colin Vearncomb, ...!
Luther Vandros and Coolio too.
Verdade 😢
Eram bons demais 👊🏾
Absolutely right 👍👍👍👑
I still listen to the same music I did back in the last 45 years. Today is my 73rd birthday. I am now listening to Night Shift. And singing.
Its Heavy and holy!!! Cheers to you Susan
and keep singing! forever more
A belated happy birthday!!
i love that you do that...xxxx

My dad has the extended 12" single of this song. Around 20 years ago he started moving his vinyls to CD's, I pretty much heard his entire singles collection over an entire month blasting at full volume in our house as he transferred them across. I knew half of the songs, but the one that I'll never forget hearing for the 1st time is 'Nightshift'. My dad loves his hi-fi and invested in having the best possible sound he could afford and the production of this song really comes across when you have a high end sound system. The percussion and harmonies are so superior and so organic, If you have a music streaming service, listen to this song with the highest quality bitrate, close your eyes and enjoy a masterpiece.
Whats even better is the meaning of the song, the lyrics are a perfect homage to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, they refer to their songs so many times...and even better...'Nightshift' means 'heaven' and when you listen to the song with that in mind, its a whole new song.
JUST WOW!
Who's listening to this song right now
Hi li
yeah
Ronnie
Moi
Yes.....Here.
This was my very first music video production. I met with The Commodores who had just broken up with Lionel Ritchie and were on the verge of losing their record label deal at Motown. We all put our heads together and they came up with the dollars to do a simple, low budget music video. My former partner and I, Janet Flora, produced the clip, and brought in a fledgling commercial director (at the time) to helm. Shot it all on a soundstage in West LA, in one day, this video went to Number One on the TV Guide MTV Top Ten Charts. We followed up with a second music video, "Animal Instinct."
***** Yeah, they were pretty miserly and greedy, though they did break some amazing artists. Over the years, I directed a half ozen videos for Motown, and they were okay to work with. The artists though, were always great to work with. Chip
Chip Miller Oooooooooooooh man....I, and others - I'm sure, would love to know what this "Wayne Review" said. Please copy and paste his bullshit.
Jeff Hanson I have no idea who that moron was, but he ran no photo or gave no info on himself. He said shit that if we were in the same room, my New Jersey roots would have kicked in and I would've put him on his ass. He was just insulting, cursing, and made no sense at all. I already reported him to CZcams, and as soon as we load our masters of "Nightshift" onto CZcams, we will call for his post to be shut down for copyright infringement, as well as to suspend him for "hateful language" and "derogatory remarks. Thanks though for your supportive message. Peace, Chip
I sooo love this song, Chip, thank you for creating this with them. The first time I heard it, my first husband, also a musician, had just passed. It lifted me up and took away the pain, for the time being. It does so each time I hear it. God bless.
Chip..incredible job.The final scene with the close up of King and Orange singing ,the light of the mics everything just sends chills up the spine.
Can I have a show of hands if you're still listening to this in 2019?
i will be having this song at my funeral when they carry me feet first out the door in my pine over coat

She sat there and listened to this song here by herself and now I understand 😞❤️🙏🏽. Mom, I miss miss you and all of our loved ones that are now Gone. I’m your twin fr 💔💔💔

Now, this is what I call music. When music used to be called REAL MUSIC. Days when we use REAL instruments and sounds so sweet, it just suuuuuits the soul. Gone are the days. Sadly but so. if only time could rewind.
ikr. i couldn't agree with u more. and im only 17.
hadar Warner lol I'm glad u agree with me 😉😊
dude im sorry to say but im from this generation and i can say that this music is way better then the stuff from 95 to now
tony montana You are absolutely right😎👍. Don't know what 90sandearly00srule1 is talking about brov 😞
Wrong. You like this specific song amongst others from pre millenial age, giving you a short burst of nostalgia which further feeds your egocentric definition of music. Hate to break it to you but if it sounds good and happens to be made digitally, rather than on an instrument, it is still music. You like instruments because you like the comforting melody of this song. You wouldn't give two thirds of a shit about the origin of the sounds as long as it sounded good to you. It's so easy to fall into the "past is better" bandwagon that you forget to pull your head out of your ass and explore good music made post millenial shift. In other words, stop being a lazy fuck, go out there and find your piece of music, because noone is gonna do it for your pretentious needs.
Yes i am butthurt
Sometimes I just need to listen to this song over and over, Marvin….Jackie…😌

❤🙏 this song makes me sad. I’m not even sure if it is related to the movie “Night Shift” but it came out at the exact same time. So I always assume it was written for that movie kind of like “Romancing the Stone” by Billy Ocean which wasn’t actually in the movie by the same name.
Anyway, I have long since lost most of my family and I miss them terribly. This song reminds me of the only time I ever went to a movie alone with my dad. My dad owned a chain of movie theaters in the DC metropolitan area. When dad would do surprise inspections at his movie theaters on weekend nights I would beg to tag along. On really bust nights dad would get behind the concession stand and scoop popcorn or help out in any way he could. And I would do the same when permitted.
On the night dad and I saw the movie “Night Shift” we were visiting one of his theaters that I only visited that one time. It was called Cinema 7 in Crystal City (where the Pentagon is located right across from the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial on the Virginia side). I remember that night like it was yesterday. My dad was a very good man but very serious and didn’t speak much. I never doubted that he loved me with all of his heart but being the child of an immigrant family that had seen horror dad was reared in such a way as to not show emotion. It was a defense mechanism that my ancestors had been forced to develop that enabled them to survive atrocities the likes of which those of us in the west will never have to endure (unless we re-elect Trump).
On the night that dad and I ended up seeing this movie I had assumed that we were just going to drive around from movie theater to movie theater checking on things. But this night was like no other. It’s possible that dad wanted to see the movie in order to predict how well it was going to do in order to strategize how many copies he wanted to lease or how to negotiate his terms with the production company. OR, maybe dad had another idea in mind. Cinema 7 was notoriously dad’s least crowded movie theater and presumably only existed because dad happened to also own the building it was in. I can’t be positive but I want to believe that dad chose for us to visit Cinema 7 on that one special evening so that we could enjoy our company together without distraction. Dad knew practically everyone in Washington DC. Had we gone to a theater in the District or in the crowded Maryland suburbs dad would have been besieged by people he knew wanting to shake hands and/or making small talk. I’d like to think that dad purposely took me to Cinema 7, a city that no native Washingtonians would ever visit as it was essentially known only for being a bottleneck for traffic exiting DC over the Key Street bridge. At the time that we saw this movie Crystal City was the site of a few apartment buildings and maybe a few restaurants. It was a stretch to even call it a “city.” The ONLY people who would purposely go to a theater in Crystal City would be workers from the Pentagon or government employees living in one of the several apartment buildings as there was absolutely nowhere to park and no subway access at the time.
I remember loving the movie and my dad holding my hand the entire time. And I remembered dad seeming “less worried” that night. Dad was a tortured soul. Something that only he knew tormented him throughout his entire life. Dad was incredibly moral so i can only assume that he felt tremendous guilt for being alive. I know this sounds odd if stated in a vacuum, but “survivor guilt” is real and can be as paralyzing to some connected to a tragedy as the very victims of that sane tragedy.
Dad and I watched the movie and then we went and had pizza together - just us. And on that one night dad didn’t rush. We even talked. I don’t remember what we talked about but it was light hearted and probably observational. In other words, we were moving our lips but not listening to the substance of what the other was saying. We were simply communicating our love for one another via random waveforms. The substance of this moment was not in the dialogue but in the physical waveforms we were creating with our larynx. The love was encrypted into the core of the tone of the seemingly meaningless sounds separate and distinguishable from any meaning derived from them through the lens of a human dialect.
I miss my dad. Dad suffered to ensure that I never did. All I see around me are horrible parents. These parents shower their children with insincere platitudes. But the kids are nothing more than accessories in the lives of yuppies who must have everything. I chose early in life to never bring a child into this cruel world because I don’t have anywhere near the strength or emotional intelligence to raise a child as perfectly and as lovingly as my father and mother did theirs.
As the Commodores would say your father is on the Nightshift. And it's gonna be alright.
Listen im telling.. you.. if you catch your mom listening to this song and she smiles then you know the mourning is over.. and then the good memories will be in her head!! God bless 😊

Reminds me if my dad (R.I.P) playing this in his Camero Traveling over the San Pedro bridge at night over looking the whole Long Beach docks and Naval Base in the 80s. R.I P to our parents we had an awesome memorable childhood.
