Apologies for the video missing at 2:51. We had a rendering error on this export. Thanks for understanding!
Adam Savage’s Tested no worries, yet an inspiring video! Thank you guys!
It's ok. Great job guys!
Nope, I'm unsubscribing immediately! ;)
Was totally worth it for the big reveal ! what a beautiful model. The original in the film may have been camera worthy at its time, but this one is ready for the HD limelight
Pin comments like this so it is displayed at the top for every visitor.
This is one of the most impressive builds ever shown on the channel. Amazing work Kayte!
and to think in the future we will get things like this almost out of the 3d printing machine. they are making some great and fast advancements already because the whole mission to mars and stuff. they want to print most of the tools they need after they land with local material.
@@lucasbiermann257 Someone rebuilt the entire Back to the Future Delorean 1/6 scale to print and paint. The entire level of work is just nuts. Google Did3D Delorean and it should come up. The guy did the backdrops too.
Um, closed captioning would be nice, some of us are a bit older, hearing, you know?
@@ChrisLichowicz Why would you comment that here?
Great job, Kayte. Your blimp looks awesome. I worked in the BR model shop a couple of workbenches away from Bill George who did most of the construction of the original one, throughout its build. So I can attest to what Adam points out, that your model is far more intricate than the original was. For one thing; the two main screens were just silver-painted scalloped-plastic panels, that TV images were projected onto for filming (as I'm certain you know). So no on-board image generation was needed, like yours has. Plus, filming on a smoke-saturated stage (*cough**cough*) hides an awful lot of flaws. Besides the YES, HEAVY METAL, TAMIYA, APPLE COMPUTER and CINEFEX logos, did you also include STARLOG, OMNI, VECTOR GRAPHIC, ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL, SIG, AMA and CON-AM 27? I'm pretty sure those were all on there too, among others.
I hope you find your answer buddy. You're cool just for witnessing its creation.
My favorite "logo" is the Japanese phrase "[something] spoon is too big" (...のスプーンが大きすぎる) (see at 11:00)
@@MilesBader 私のスプーンが大きすぎる - "My spoon is too big" ;)
I wonder if it's a reference to Don Hertzfeldt's work, "Rejected"
This is so cool !! I love all those ads on the blimp especially the Heavy Metal one :) Was it a detail that Ridley Scott asked for or was it a choice of the model makers ?
Adams love and passion towards Blade Runner automatically makes him one of the coolest people ever
Kayte, this is phenomenal! Easily the most impressive model I've seen. The weathering is *chefs kiss* perfect and the lighting looks spot on. You're a legend
Video goes black at 2:51 to 3:06 when you cut to presumably B-roll of the parts kit.
I initially thought my TV led lamp had packed up
As an editor it's easy to end up with a gap, especially if a video file fails to load as what likely happened here. Amazing video and amazing replica!
I thought it might have been a youtube render error but nope. I'd bet this is someone who turned off a video layer for a final render by accident. People make mistakes. Even video editors.
They're testing their future podcast format.
Potentially to protect the kit makers IP? Given Adams stance on Re-Casting.
HELL YEAH, MORE BLADE RUNNER
Perfect way to start off 2019
Especially considering 2019 is when bladerunner takes place
Potato Priorites Akira too, you better believe I’m expecting them to recreate the laser rifle from that movie later this year
Yo, it's 2019, we're finally contemporaries of Deckard.
Michael Saxonson We should do something to commemorate in November
Wonder where Pris and Roy are?
Jason Eaton is a phenom of model building. He always makes the most amazing pieces. His Star Wars scratch built models are just amazing to see in person.
Wow! Great work! Hope there’s more Kate in 2019 what an asset to the team
Oh wow. This is amazing. All the detail, all the little tiny things... Insane amount of work, but the result is brilliant.
I am a simple man. I see Blade Runner, I click like.
You are a simple man - you see a comment and you click copy and paste.
In the next time, they will create an android from Blade Runner.
I see 99.. beng thumbs up.
I see simple men clicking like, I also click like because I'm a simple man.
I am a replicant. I Hate Humans
This is high up among the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed. Kudos to everyone involved!!

"Oh, I have an ad the size of my fingernail of that exact "Yes" logo on my blimp."
This sounds like the weirdest bar conversation starter ever.
Attention to detail is fantastic, I love the added video realism to the model.
I'm reading "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and one of the major parts of the story is that almost all the animals have gone extinct, starting with the birds. Owning robotic animals is one of Deckard's hobbies but he dreams of owning a real one if he can just retire enough replicants and collect the bounties. The Tyrell Corporation tries to bribe him with the owl shown in their office.
So, sorry Adam, but no bird poop.
You are right but there are birds in the movie at least in the "Time to die" scene.
Stannous Flouride maybe it's the poop from the dove that Roy let go free:))
@@wb2860 In the book, it would have been artificial. Even finding a real spider was nearly impossible.
Wow! You're certainly correct. I've read the book, but would not have put that together. Good call.
The book goes to great lengths to describe how realistic the fake animals are, however. The whole point of owning animals is as a status symbol and the fake ones are meant to be as realistic as possible. There is even a scene where he goes off into the wilderness and finds a frog, only to discover that it too is electric. In the film, we see how some of these replicants are made and they are bio-mechanical. Thus, the fake birds would still probably produce poop.
Hearing the little bit about Yes, made me so happy! They're my favorite band!
This is absolutely amazing! We want to see more multi-day builds if they are these good.
Super great job Kayte! If I had opened that kit and seen all those parts I’d have been like, “Nope,” but I admire your perseverance and attention to detail!
More from Kayte Sabicer please. One day builds? Tutorials? How achieve things or techniques she uses? Project videos?
Thanks for sharing this.
That's so freaking cool!!! I love all the logos of companies that are no longer with us or the logos have changed dramatically. What incredible work!
Adam. This is truly outstanding, above and beyond obsessive. It’s beautiful.
I'm in awe of the talent that goes in to this project. Loved seeing all the tiny details. Top job Kayte.
i just watched 2049 for the first time a week ago. man i wish i watched it in theaters. now i gotta watch the first on again.
Can't beat the original. Still watch it all the time. Got to love Harrison Ford. Fuelled my dreams for decades.
I love the second film it's a great film on its own and doesn't try to copy the original masterpiece.
Real pity you didn't see in a cinema, amazing
I really enjoyed it. Really sad you didn't get to see it in theatres, I feel it might not have the same impact. Dunkirk was kinda the same, not the same movie if you're just watching it at home.
I was lucky enough to see 2049 in Imax. Blew. Me. Away.
Just... wow! That thing is the coolest thing I've seen so far this year. Awesome work Kayte!
Kayte is AMAZING!! :D Absolutely love her!!
This is one of the most gorgeous constructions I have ever seen!
When Adam eventually retires from the spotlight, the museum will be unbelievable. He is one of the best creators and collaborators of our generation, what a legend.
You guys have truly outdone yourselves. This is bloody AMAZING! I got goosebumps.
Really incredible model. Well done!
The fact that you half scaled an already complex and detailed piece of film set is so damn praise worthy.
wow. that is insanely detailed. So does Kate have her own channel? Or where can we see more model work by her?
Incredible work, Adam, and especially Kayte!
I’ve seen a lot of cool shit on this channel, but this takes the cake.
I see lots of cool stuff on Tested, but I am ABSOLUTELY FLOORED by this! Hats off to all involved, Kayte, Adam, Mel!
TO THE BRADBURY BUILDING!!
LET'S GO!!!
You've got a few years?
*old Superman theme plays*
This is the most amazing build I've ever seen on your channel Adam. Kayte did an incredible job!
Somebody didn't check the video after the render
Gunther Kirsch
It boggles my mind that video editing software doesn't have a warning box for this. "Black scene of > 5 seconds detected. Was this intentional?". This is super easy to do in software.
Joonas Loppi Not as thoughtful as you.
@Tobias Belliard the box in my suggestion asked "Was this intentional?" - if you'd answer [ Yes ], the software would not warn about it again. The idea was to prevent accidents like this from getting released. IMO an additional question is a small price to pay preventing accidents in those *rare cases* when the "crazy artist" wants the viewer to *actually see* complete blackness for more than 5 seconds.
As if Tested does any QA on their videos whatsoever. They are the only large CZcams channel that I follow that consistently has audio and video problems in their uploads. It's honestly kind of ridiculous how frequent and often blatant the issues are.
And that folks is what is called a masterpiece. This is the kind of stuff modern movies are missing, CGI just doesn't cut it. It would be great to see more movies feature miniatures, you just can't replicate the effect any other way. Kubo and the Two Strings is a notable exception, they combined miniatures with CGI to incredible effect. Great movie. The giant skeleton monster was absolutely incredible.
Congratulations on such a flawless execution, I have never seen so much attention to detail in a model. I'm rather envious, I'd love to have that hanging in my bedroom. That and the BR blaster, I've loved that gun since the first time I laid eyes on it. As always, excellent work Adam and crew!
Do Electric Birds Poo?
Wasn't wild life mostly extinct in the movie?
That is a crazy cool build!!!
"More realistic bird poo than actual bird poo is our motto." --Dr. Eldon Tyrell
This is the absolute best thing about this channel, watching Adam and a guest maker just geek the fuck out over something they built for 10-15 minutes.
Here, I fixed the title for you: "Kayte Sabicer's Blade Runner Blimp Replica!"
Well he commissioned her to do it so it's his possession.
Aaron Thompson we didn't ask
That's an insane amount of work that went into that and it looks amazing. Well done guys!
Adam, where were you 9 months before Kate was born? The resemblance is quite intriguing
James Croft 😂
That thing is INSANE !!!!!! Such detail.
Where do I sign for that off-world colony?
Yeah, I need to get off this shit world!
Today? probably SpaceX or Blue Origin since PanAm went bankrupt. Back when BR came out though nobody thought PanAm would tank.
Adam Savage and Kayte Sabicer have both made some wonderful pieces of art for Tested, but I think this is my favourite of them all. :)
Thankyou very much for sharing with us, and giving a glimpse inside the blimp, and of the making process.
Bravo!
I want one but even bigger.... as a chandelier. Imagine walking into a house with an industrial interior and having this as a main light fixture?
I want to live in Deckard's messy apartment.
So perhaps, a double-sized version of this half-sized replica... I guess we could call it "full-size"? :D
One of the coolest models I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing this!
It must have been professionally satisfying for Kayte to work with a legend like Adam, but probably also maddening because his pursuit of perfection can take him in many directions on a whim. To be fair, he certainly is good at time-boxing when there's a hard deadline. However, in this case, there seemed to be no deadline, so it must've seemed like it would never end.
I would work with these two for free and be happy living in a box :)
Jayyy Zeee it sounded like Kate did everything? What did Adam even do?
Congrats team blimp. It really looks great. Love seeing Katye’s work here!
the bird poop is a really cool detail, but wild birds are extinct in the Blade Runner universe if i'm not mistaken.
Also when you think about the scale of the thing those must have been some gigantic birds
What about the dove at the end of the film?
thought there were only something like three owls left in the blade runner world according to the book (or at least one of the ones i still have somewhere (memory's not that good (i'm old) When asked if the owl was artificial in the book Rachel says "of course it is...only three left in the world) meaning as wealthy as Tyrell is, it's not enough to own a real owl
Doves are the rats of the air... Maybe there are only wild doves, rats and cockroaches alive in the movie along with humans…
I think replicant animals poop too?
This really is amazing! I just recently saw the replica at Warner Bros. studio in California. I thought that was amazing but this is next level. Well done!
That looks amazing
That's some top model making. Looks gorgeous and just like the original!
Did you have to recreate the video that plays on the blimp or did you have a special connection and if so can you share? I've seen BR in the theatre over 20 times including many nights in 70mm on an IMAX screen and I still love it today but one of the best times was at the University Theatre in Toronto when they announced they were closing and would play a double bill of Blade Runner and Mad Max for months as the last feature. On one screening the projectionist had lowered the dialogue track and raised the background sound track so you could hear everything that was going on there including the audio for this blimp. The audio mix can really change a film, even one you've seen many times.
Adam knows Jason Eaton who had obtained the video and audio that was actually used in the film
Good luck, those that have access to the raw audio or video files dont seem to like sharing.
That is totally epic. Amazing work, Kayte!
I have been fascinated by this blimp ever since I was a member of the original Dallas test screening of Blade Runner in March 1982. I would kill to have a model of my own. (Ok, not kill - but I would pay good money for one!) I think there's enough people who'd buy one, even at a premium price, to make for a well-remunerated project for someone for several months. Hint, hint, you amazing model makers out there.
I'm just starting one
Adam, have you built a Voight-Kamph machine? I'd love to see how you and your cohorts would rock that build!!!
That sounds like a worthy project, I'd really like to see that as well.
czcams.com/video/2sCHSCj9r0Y/video.html
What a beautiful replica, big fan of blade runner and this has to be 1 of the best pieces I've seen
Too cool. Just a "tiny" extra project... hang the blimp by wire from a motorized cart that rides on a looping rail track suspended from the ceiling.
lordcrunk I think they said they considered it in the podcast, but he said no matter how he hung it you'd only ever see one side at any time, and you couldn't move it and inspect it. He wanted the stand so you could slowly spin it and admire everything.
I never cease to be amazed with the things Adam and Tested are able to replicate... but this is beyond what they have done. This tops the Mecha-Glove.
9:20 Do electric pigeons poop?
Love this. Seen the original model at WB a few years ago. Just an amazing replica. Great work!
I Wanna see this photographed in a smokey room please!!!!!
Agreed!
With the motorised spotlights in action
Glen Beestone definitely!
And some soundtrack.
Waiting for it til the end, but NO... =)
I'd love to get a 3 hours video showing the whole building process and research behind it, it's such a detailed a wonderfully made model, would be such a pleasure to watch. Congrats on suck incredible scale replica !
Where is everyone getting the video and sound file???
If it's the same one, I think the Jason they're talking about in this video did his own build 5+ years ago. It seems like he provided everything for the kit.
No one who has it will share the files, ( unless of course you can make money buy selling kits)
One thing I love is that now we have tiny LEDs and flat screens so you can add those details, the pictures move! This is incredible model making, I wish I could see this IRL
I think you missed something at 2:51
It has became illegal to show that in at least 52 states
@@Killuminati1blood 😂
@@Killuminati1blood has become* has is already past sense, so become doesn't need to be in past sense... The more you know
There is a comment about this "Apologies for the video missing at 2:51. We had a rendering error on this export. Thanks for understanding!"
Absolutely fabulous. I'm weirdly excited by that so well done to all involved.
Watching these videos is my crack
She did a great job fitting the top meticulously! It is an awesome piece of work that belong to a blade runner museum! I think I would go to it if there was that type of modeling on display!
But where did they get the original footage for the japanese ads and off-world colonies logo? And isn't it "Shimago-Dominguez", not "Shimagu-Dominguez"? UPDATE: it appears Jason Eaton found and recreated some of the footage, and he also was the one who changed the "Shimago" to "Shimagu" for some reason. Incredible job. Loved to finally be able to the blimp from angles that were never shown in the movie. Also, it makes it so much easier to see the Moebius inspiration (a very similar blimp appears in a couple of of his stories "The Long Tomorrow" and one of "The Incal" books I think).
Adam mentioned they were the original films played on the screens in the movie with the original audio. He must know a few people from the Blade Runner production crew...
@@TheExplosiveGuy Yeah, I never seen those in any of the extras; I was very surprised they got these in perfect quality.
Jason Eaton has em. And the inner secret (not so secret) circle of the movie magic world. I've tried to get my hands on them for a certain noodle bar project, but to no avail. I ain't got the cred. (I assume)
@@Astronomikat -ya it helps when you got everyone and their brother supplying you with original materials, reference or otherwise. -the white dragon noodle bar is iconic to me, most notably the neon dragon light. could be an awesome project!
@@Astronomikat yep the great sharing community of model/prop building.
Wow, this is amazing. And I agree, the color wheel is a lot more organic than LEDs. The amount of coding you'd need to do to get really close to that organic feel would be insane
There are female model builders on the west coast? I really need to leave the southeast.
You build models? If so then random question, what do you think about the fiber optic lighting - would it be easier or more complicated to do that with LEDs?
@@DisorderedArray Sorry for butting in but Good question.. I personally have done both and think it depends on are you comfortable soldering all those led's and resistors or making one light source and running all the fiber. They both give a different look as well. LED's are very bright compared to fiber. To dim led's down you would need to use pwm from a microcontroller to very the time time between on and off. Basically to get them half bright you would do a 50/50 on off PWM frequency. Then there is the color changing. Could be easier with something like addressable neo pixels.
We had two girls (I'm not being condescending; they were very young women) working in the Blade Runner model shop (original one; not talking about 2049), alongside about 10 or 12 of us guys. So there have been 'female model builders on the west coast' for a long time.
@@neilsmith1145 - thanks for the helpful info! I've been thinking about about very small and lightweight lighting systems for models we sometimes build at work, and had only considered LEDs. But the fiber optics seem to be another potential solution. I might have to do some more research!
@@DisorderedArray Fiber Optic is much easier but has less control. For instance, if you are thinking of being able to run three tiny wires with electricity down to a mini LED bulb, you could then control the color, brightness, and more, but you are running THREE wires which means there is more to go wrong like shorts if some tiny part breaks. Plus most LED RGB bulbs are not that small or small enough. Fiber optic means you can get super small lights and if you group them all to a single light source means you have one single point of failure: meaning one bulb, two wires, and then the color changing disc. Plus, the color disk is so much simpler a fix than having to pre-program EVERY rgb led bulb. You would have to catalogue every LED location and more. So it's just not worth the time of programming and effort of wiring. Fiber Optic is a more traditional and faster/simpler/cheaper way to do it. Hopefully I answered your question.
Cinefex & Heavy Metal?! That's so perfect! I could watch the documentary on the graphic design elements of Blade Runner everyday on a loop.
When I saw the thumbnail, I was hoping it'd be remote-controlled
really impressive attention to detail on this one! hope to see more projects with this level of complexity!
I once saw the model for Vader's flagship from Empire.
There was no crunchiness. It was bananas.
And enormous.
What I find really funny though, were those huge engines.
They were, like, GU10 halogens.
I never get tired of seeing Adam excited.
Black screen at 2:52-3:00?
Nz yes, you are observant.
Adam is Savage. I love Blade Runner. Anything blade runner. Tis the year!
i want this in my drawing room!!!
I used to be a professional model maker for film and I’m really really impressed by the authenticity of the details on this
Awesome... now attach it to a rumba.
My grandpa Jerry Allen was the original model maker for Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers. What a wonderful opportunity it was for a sci fi fan like myself to know someone like him!
When talking about scale though did dinosaurs poop on the top? I mean if the gondola ceilings are say 8ft at 1:1 scale, that bird shit basically covers an entire window.
Congratulations on your perseverance to bring this iconic item to life. 👊👊👊

That is impressive. I tried building model cars as a kid but lost patience just waiting for the glue to dry. I can only appreciate the craftsmanship and patience and ingenuity required to do this kind of model making. Well done.👍👍🇨🇦
She's incredible talented and extremely hot at the same time
_in my eye Take that stick out your ass
As a scale modeler that has a focus on lighting scale models, specifically SciFi models I appreciate the level of detail and effort put into this amazing replica. First, there are not very many female modelers, at least that I'm aware of, so it is very good to see Kayte pull this off in such grand scale. Kayte you are at the top tier of professional modelers. Seriously I can't find the words to express just how impressive your work is. This replica is amazing and I have no doubt that it will be the centerpiece of Adam's collection for a long long time.
