    A VERY fresh guitar (2017 if I'm not mistaken), a VASE Tonesetter 18 amp (Google them), and a Fractal FX8. This guitar is brand new, like, literally a few hours out of the wrapper. I've set it up to my liking (float up a tone on the G string) and given it a shot. It's a little pink sex machine and I know it's only going to get better. I'll shoot a more flattering vid when I get off this blessed tour.
    Eternal thanks to Carole Johnston, Rick Chadwick and Damien Boyd at Ernie Ball's Australian distributor, CMC Music.

    Thanks for the demo, Brett. Sounds like a perfect Tele & Strat hybrid and it looks stunning, IMHO. Pretty bloody good, indeed!

    The thing with Albert Lee which is really unique and what a lot of people don’t realize is that he’s not just got great technique and speed. The biggest thing that makes him stand apart from other players is his ability to improvise and play complex fast runs that join together seelessly and completely differently every time he plays a song. the endless ideas that he produces with speed fluency timing and swing is never the same on any song. I am not sure how he does this because lots of guitarists can learn a solo or a challenging piece of music note for note by copying it, but Albert will play it different every night and it will sound incredible.

    Just saw him last month from about 10 feet away. Kicked ass! Very economical player-lots of notes with not a lot of movement. He played a gorgeous blue version of this with P-90s. Sounded really good.

    Absolutely fantastic sounding guitar. I love the sparkle in the tone with a classic stratocaster, yet it's own flavour. Really nice take on the shape, I personally love it.

    These awesome guitars give you great twang as well because I believe the bridge pick up has a plate on it like a tele....beautiful guitar.

    Thanks Burgs - I have been waiting for you to review the Albert Lee for months now! Fantastic to hear your opinion. I am looking forward to the more in depth review.
    This is not a guitar one can easily find in stores and try out, so much appreciated.
    I have the Albert Lee HH (mahogany guitar with humbuckers), and I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with it. I got my local store to set it up floating (with only 3 of the springs installed), and this guitar freaks me out: it never goes out of tune! I do dives... heavy duty bends. Treat the guitar as a metal guitar (which it certainly is not...) and it is still in tune.
    Floating, the guitar does not have the sustain of my LP... But tone? Oh yeah! It does a fairly believable single coil impression too.
    I currently do not own a strat type single coil guitar, and I can justify owning one only. So it is between the Strat elite and the Albert Lee you reviewed. The strat is more expensive. Both have locking tuners (I would not ever purchase a guitar without locking tuners having experienced the tuning stability of the Albert Lee).
    Cheers!

    Pups are supposed to be A2 magnets, great for that sweet giddyup but none of that tear bringing ice pick in the ear tone I have a hard time dealing with!! Albert knew he was on to something good and ran with it, great demo and some darn fine picking to boot, keep up the good work!

    Ha, I've been using Carls balanced tension method to setup all my trem Guitars for years, never had a tuning issue since. Yet another example of CZcams changing my life... on ya Burgs #nicebitofmuff

    Nice I have an Albert lee music man from 1996. It's still in excellent condition. It's a blue one. my only gripe with music man guitars is they leave the neck unfinished and if you have sweaty hands like mine dirt can get ingrained in the beautiful maple neck very easily leaving black dirt stains all over the fretboard.

    Hows the string spacing on it? Can you play chords near the nut cleanly? 41.3 mm is a really small nut.

    First of all, are there any videos of you playing live, especially with the Music Man guitars? Secondly, how about a review of the Luke III BFR model. Thirdly, keep up the great work. Beautiful reviews.

      @BrettKingman  Před 7 lety

      I run a Fractal Audio FX8. It's got some reverb and modulated delay happening in the section you're referring to. I have no idea who Porter Robinson is, sorry. Never heard of him/her. I was just improvising as usual. Cheers, B.

    Sounds absolutely beautiful! Great great tone. Burgs, you mentioned both a Suhr Riot, and a Muff when you engaged them. Are those models on the Fractal or real boxes in front of it?

      Sorry, I should have clarified: All effects including the drives are models in the FX8.

      Figured it out: "Colin Hay's" method. Colin Hay being the frontman for Men at Work, along with his solo stuff. I have not come across anything that describes his method for stat setup.

    That's a great looking guitar. My favorite of all the SSS out there. What are the main differences between this and the Cutlass? Besides the body.

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  Před 7 lety

      The Cutlass' pickups are slightly less output - more of a moderate 60's sound. Its neck profile is more Strat-like whereas the Albert's is drawn more from the Axis. Also, the Cutlass has stainless steel frets, it's an alder body, the neck is covered in a very thin poly (AL is gunstock oil) and the Cutlass has a irremovable cover over the rear of the bridge (which annoys the hell out of me). Both guitars feature the Silent System and Schaller M6 tuners, which are a godsend.

      Thanks... I have 2 Albert Lee guitars at the moment - the HH version and the 3xMM90 version (which has been discontinued). Just been craving for a Music Man SSS guitar. I'm really enjoying the AL's neck profile and how balanced the guitar is.

    Beautiful guitar but the Problem with an unfinished necks is your lovely Birdseye Maple finger board will get grubby with black smudges really quick depending on your sweat. I’d never get an Albert Lee music man unfinished neck again without getting it sealed in lacquer first , and I have one
