- Sorry it's been so long since I've uploaded anything, but I've been waiting to release this one for aaaaages! I just love this backstory so much, and now think of this as how Flowey developed as a character. Hope you enjoy!

Eh, I think the true lab+Final fight in true pacifist make things pretty clear. Coupled with the story at the end of the neutral run, it paints a pretty clear picture.

He never really did feel anything. Note how quick his emotions change various times throughout the game. He can go from laughing to screaming, cowering to dictorial. Normal emotion can't change quickly how he did. You may be confusing tone and emotion, but I assure you he doesn't feel emotion.

Flowey had a tiny spark but not enough to be called a soul but he can feel in the game he was upset he said "im not ready for this to end" he feels!
And maybe flowey just like chara they have soul but dont have any body flowey's body is from asgore's garden because his dust spread over the garden so the leftover soul got into a flower and boom floweys born
alphys put asriels soul into a buttercup flower, it was a part of her research. His soul survived long enough to be put into the flower, because he had charas soul in him, what makes his soul stronger. as much as i know, he doesnt have any feelings, because he doesnt have a "real" body

Flowey isn't really soulless, because when you play the genocide route he CRIES of fear. He can feel things as fear and boredom, but he can't feel things for others. He can't love people or be friends with them because of that.

Fear
Happiness
He can feel anger and fear, but his "happiness" only comes when twisted sense curiosity is satisfied, just like the player in Undertale after playing long enough.
He just can't feel love.

Well, Asriel is not totally soul-less because Alphys gave him determination so he has a little bit of soul :)
a soul doesn't need determination and determination not need a soul.
determination is the sense of purpose, a resolution. the dead brought by injecting determination were given a sense of purpose to live. therego the soul could not be maintained without it if the soul was already lost. the sense of purpose provides motivation to live to serve that purpose. and it is that drive that keeps asriel alive.
now the challenge, what is the drive exactly? just the need to live perhaps? self preservation is a common instinct that is very influential to our survival, so it would not be silly to assume that his own fear of death granted by determination gave him a maintainable soul.

DarkestDelights - Writings And Less the thought that the other souls relied on these other traits you are hinting towards was brought by the fanbase not the actual cannon. it may be possible in theory but in the lore the monsters do mention determination as a common trait among humans to the point where it is like a primary source of their "power"(for lack of better term) as compared to the monsters magic being their primary trait in their soul. i believe that the notes in the secret lab support this model.

And I do think Flowey can feel. He obviously feels things like fear and hate, but since these are polar opposites to courage and love, you simply wouldn't feel those feelings without being able to feel the opposite too.

I love all the expressions that Flowey makes! I’m so used to seeing Flowey just smile in these dubs, I appreciate it!
as stated about monsters, when a monster dies, their body becomes dust and scatters around the area, but because Asriel's soul was combined with Chara's their minds became one, Chara was an empty husk and Asriel was basically a god. Asriel was attacked by humans on the surface but then returned to the underground fatally wounded to where he died and his body was scattered amongst Asgore's field of golden flowers. Alphys who I believe recently became the royal guard, wanted to test the "determination" gathered from one of the other fallen humans. She had decided to test it on one of the dying golden flowers to see if it would come back to life, what she wasn't expecting was there to be monster dust on it, Thus Asriel returned from the dead. For now we'll consider the monster dust to contain a small fragment of their soul, which is why Asriel still has his memories. Though because not much of his soul is there, he doesn't feel anything but fear and boredom so he tries to find entertainment for the life that was given back to him. Asriel does have a small fragment of a soul but not his soul....I believe he has been surviving off of what was left of Chara's soul, A small child that was taken in with not much understanding on why the monsters did things.....that is what I think anyways.

well, it didn't say Chara's soul shattered, and Chara only felt for asriel, not Toriel or asgore, so it could be Flowey has Chara's soul and only cares for his own well being.

Chara and Asriel COMBINED their souls, so since Asriel's is obviously gone Chara's is too, they were the same thing.
And it's unlikely Chara didn't care at all about their parents, they made the Mr. Dad Guy sweater if nothing else.
well think of it this way. Determination in Undertale is described by Alphys in one instance as "The Will to Live" though it's obviously more than just that. Flowey was just a flower that had Asriels dust spread on it. It held his essence but nothing else it wasn't even alive. It wasn't until Alphys injected the flower with Raw determination that Asriels essence became conscious in the flower. Flowey is nothing but Determination in that sense. The other thing that exists in the game that Sans makes to sound almost like the dark opposite of Determination is LOVE, Level Of ViolencE, as Sans describes "The will and desire to harm others and distance yourself from pain" by the End Chara has so much LOVE that they can ERASE the whole world in an instant. Sort of like how in the end Thr Pacifist run both Asriel and Frisk have so much Determination that they can tear apart the world and become more immortal than ever. Frisk could reach inside Asriel and talk the the souls Asriel held and Frisks soul never shattered just pulled itself back together instead of resetting and could even materialize items from pure Determination. In Both Cases they held so much power they could bend the world to their will, literally. just like in the fan song Chara could have been brought back by pure LOVE just like how Flowey was brought back by pure Determination. but maybe I'm overthinking this, but that's just a theory- a Game Theory.

For people who don't know, Flowey has no soul. You may object with the fact that he still has feelings, but you don't exactly need a soul for that. Flowey bloomed from his own dust, meaning that he may not have a soul, but he is still part of himself. Also, he is still able to live without his soul because he still has some of Charas DT.

Just keep in mind that just because Flowey claims to have done "so and so" things, it doesn't mean he's actually telling the truth. xD He caught himself in a lie there. No to mention that even in genocide route, some monsters still couldn't be killed because Alphys warns them and they run away. So I assume that even in Flowey's "Genocide" worlds, some would still get away because of that.
Frisk At The End Made Me Laugh!
I think, even though Flowey is soulless, he can feel something, but he "lost himself" in every way. Now, without the soul, and only the memories of his loved ones, he does not have the connections he established with those people left.
Maybe he could learn to love the people again. Who knows.
But he CAN feel, evidently while waking up the first time, and when Frsik made the "scary face" in the Genocide Route.
At the very least, he can feel scared. And he seemed pretty sad that he could not love, too. Why else should he have tried committing suicide?
As far as I remember, Flowey was a result or Alphys' experiments, and Asriel's essence could live in the flower even without her help. I thought Asgore or someone else wanted his son to be alive again, so Alphys did something to it and created a new kind of monster that acted like a regular living person, but Flowey didn't have a SOUL, and, as we know, SOULs require love, hope, and compassion, so he lived without those things, even though Flowey gained more determination after the experiment and was able to see the world almost like humans do, which is why he's aware of different timelines. I'm pretty sure Asriel didn't turn into this creature on his own will.

I don't think he's soulless. He's Asriel. From what I've seen, he does experience shock at coming back from the dead, frustration, confusion, even- as depicted above- depression at not being able to feel love. Hardened, perhaps, but not soulless.
Someone earlier said that he may even have Chara's soul. I have entertained that notion as it could explain Flowey's bloodlust; Chara DID try unsuccessfully to take over Asriel. But why then does Flowey awaken with Asriel's memories instead of Chara? Or are they both there and Chara is influencing Flowey?

As Asriel said, after the true pacifist run, when you go all the way back, where the game started, Asriel tells you: "Chara was the one that picked up their own empty body...".
Chara ate the Buttercups to make his suicide look like a sickness. After that Asriel took his soul, but the control over Asriels body, was split, instead of just powering up Asriel, they both didn't know about that, until all of that happend.

Flowey may not have a soul, but I believe he can still feel deep down. He just needs real love to help him bring those feelings back out. Maybe he didn't understand that Toriel and Asgore were trying to show him love, all he needs is an entire family there to show him that there's more to life than level of violence.
