Fraser was a one of a kind sitcom: more popular than the spin-off it came from. It was smart and very funny at the same time., a rare combination indeed. The characters were developed slowly like a savory stew on a slow cooker. The all consuming love niles had for Dafney was well worth the wait.
I love this show. Frasier's reactions to Niles fawning over Daphne is so funny. I still laugh out loud on so many scenes. Niles' crush on Daphne was pure gold!! Yeah because Mad Men must have been off the air what? 5 whole years? Lol it was never on HBO either wolfy boy. AMC was it's channel. Comments like this always remind me of old people in stores saying I member when them candy bars wus a nickel.
Re-watching, I think Daphne did have feelings for Niles and was very close to him during all those years but she just thought it was friendship for both of them or didn't want to admit it to herself. the minute she found out that he was in love with her, her feelings are immediately there and she wants to be with him for real. They always had a connection but Niles tried to be respectful of Daphne and Daphne wasn't ever sure.
She did seem a little suspicious in the early episodes. Notice her look when Niles says he wasn't staring. There is also the Martha Paxton episode where she actually acuses him of sniffing her hair. But once she started seeing him as a friend, I guess she just blocked it out. I would recommend watching season 5's Perspectives on Christmas and you'll see that in Daphne's story, Niles' come-on about the mistletoe is completely different to how it actually happened. In short: she doesn't see it because she doesn't want to see it.
Yeah, I agree. I'm doing a rewatch and I've noticed a few times before she found out how he felt where she seemed at least mildly interested. Most obvious is the one where she fights with Sherry and goes to Niles' during a heat wave. Yes, they played it like she just needed a good roll in the hay, but it really seemed she had an inkling of how he felt and was also interested a little herself, but didn't want to ruin the friendship.
Niles has always been one of my favorite physical comedic actor's ever.. Bouncing off of everything, I'm cracking up again now as I picture it.. This show was on every Thursday night and I never went anywhere on that night.. Miss having a show like that.. 🤗❤️🤗
I still love watching this show. The brotherly relationship between Frazier and Niles was fabulous, and at times hysterical. The relationship between Niles and Daphne was a joy to see unfold. I loved them together. The scene where Niles hits his head on the oven hood had me laughing out loud. He played that part excellent.
I watched this series when it first came out but recently my wife and I were at a loss about what to watch and clicked on S1E1 almost by accident. I have to wonder how many takes it took to get the RV scene where Frasier *grins* and tosses Niles around with a flip of the steering wheel - have played that scene over and over and over - hysterical! The outtakes videos of this show are priceless!
