Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help.
In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Emmy nominee Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.
Renfield is directed by Emmy winner Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The LEGO Batman Movie) from a screen story by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman and a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Ghosted series, Rick & Morty series).
The film also stars Golden Globe winner Awkwafina (The Farewell, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings), Emmy winner and Oscar® nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Saddam, House of Sand and Fog), Ben Schwartz (Sonic, The Afterparty), Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Focus) and Brandon Scott Jones (Ghosts, The Other Two).
Renfield is a Skybound/Giant Wildcat production, produced by Chris McKay, Samantha Nisenboim (co-producer, The Tomorrow War), Bryan Furst (Daybreakers), Sean Furst (Daybreakers), Robert Kirkman and David Alpert p.g.a. (The Walking Dead). The executive producer is Todd Lewis (unit production manager, Jason Bourne). - Zábava
Fan fact: Nicholas cage didn't know that he was filming he just doing what he does every day
"I' m a Vampire!"
I swear iv seen this girl in so many pfp's by now
its cage he just livin life like always😅
Not a fact. I would know
Christ alive. This joke is old and basic and mid and needs to DIE.
I have a simple rule, if Nick Cage is in a movie you have to see it no matter how bad it may be
Bad nick Cage movies circle back round to good the same way a dropped cat always lands on its feet.
How dare you? There is no bad nick cage movie!

Maybe I'm trippin', but Nick Cage is usually the best part of any bad movie he's in.
There's some absolutely spot on casting going on here, and not just the obvious one of Nic Cage as Dracula

Nicolas Cage as Dracula is such great casting, I don’t understand why no one has thought of it before.
Its Because of his uncle.
Because Hollywood is a woke piece of shit and they only care about "the message". Can't have that with a toxic white male as a lead.

It's gonna be fun atleast
When I saw Nicolas Cage as Dracula for the first time, as a vampire fan, I was absolutely floored.
Saw it yesterday! It’s probably his most perfect fitting role to date.
Loved it!
Everytime Aquafina open her mouth you want to throw her out a window. She is radioactive. She is the dog you dont want to lay down beside bc you will wake up with fleas. Hollywood stop putting her in movies please or we will do to you what we did to Bud Light. I swear to god.
I won’t lie, ‘I deserve to be happy’ is actually a really good theme for a movie and for some reason it’s not one that’s used that often
Whoever decided to make Nic Cage Dracula is a freakin genius.
35 years later, Nick Cage is finally a vampire.
At first sight he looked like Bela Lugosi !
@@laslalal8451 He did it once before --- BADLY!
Completely agree
He cast himself as Dracula. He’s been trying to play him for years.
Sometimes a movie relies on its well written story and memorable characters. Other times a movie relies on it's gorgeous visuals and cinematography. And then there are movies that just need Nicolas Cage dressed up as Dracula.
10/10. No notes.
I never really thought about this scenario before, but when I saw Nic Cage acting out the Count I instantly realized how perfect he fits the role.
I love the look of this.
I really like actually how Renfield gets his power from eating critters just like how he thought he did in the books. Emphasis on thought, the man was just a looney who worshipped Dracula for some reason
When you think about it, that's an interesting idea, and it kind of makes sense. If looking at just the 1931 film, Renfield was a real estate agent and got bitten by Dracula. Forced to be his servant. That wasn't the case in the novel.
@@ricardodavis4730 Has to be one of the few times I prefer most film adaptations of a character than the author's original version
kind of reminds me of Everything Everywhere All At Once where characters are able to access abilities of alternate-universe versions of themselves simply by doing something weird such as putting each shoe on the wrong foot, swallowing a knick-knack, or even snorting a fly up your nose.
the blood is life!!!!
@@victorm152 Yeah, but actually no, while that movie took the randomness as a factor Renfield is consistent that it has to be living creatures.
I can't get enough of "i will no longer tolerate.... Abuse". The delivery is so good.
I hope Cage runs around yelling "I'm a Vampire! I'm a Vampire!"
The funniest part of this is that Cage actually looks a lot like Bela Lugosi in the costume.
Holy shit, you’re right!
I see a little bit of Christopher Lloyd too (from his hammer horror Dracula), especially when his eyes are wide and his fangs are showing.
I guess that was what they were going for.

Cage makes only a handful of appearances in the film. But the trailers give the impression that he is featured more prominently.
@@gamexentralx idk, he does many small studio stuff now.
@@gamexentralx he's literally the main antagonist
It does
It's a thing that's been with him very early on in his career, check out Vampire's Kiss
Nic Cage has been one of my favorite actors for over 30 years now..going back to when I was just 7 years old barely speaking English and i love him even in his worst movies...but damn am i glad he's having this resurgence.. Let the NicoNaissance continue
But Nicholas Hoult is greatly underestimated, because he perfectly gets used to his roles.
The relationship between Dracula and Renfield seems like a metaphor for how it is to live with a Narcissist
Well, Narcissists are often referred to as 'Energy-Vampires' so this metaphor is quite apt.
Living with a Narcissist is more like living with a very dark, very cold and very evil and sinister creature that hides in a human skin suit to trick their victims/prey. Yes, some qualities could be likened to that of a Vampire but even Vampires have an ultimate agenda that comes to a point. They have a process which ultimately surrounds self indulgence but they seem like they have souls and can even have personalities too.
Narcissists are numb, hollow, have no soul and are completely lost. They cannot relate to a "normal" person mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc. ... they are completely disonnected from any and all things that are connected to the soul. They are honestly just a black hole of nothing. True Narcissists dont know who they are in any form and the only reason they keep their victims around is to completely copy them because they are terrified of themselves and they despise being alone. They can't take it! They NEED to have someone they find intelligent, attractive, someone with a strong personality and someone that is very in-touch with their emotions and mind around them privately (someone they can feed off of) so that they can copy that person and use what they are "stealing/taking" from said person to impress other people they are desperately trying to gain acceptance from.
It is more similar to a teenager who is DYING trying to fit in with whatever group they are currently in, that they'll do absolutely anything to be accepted--but with a whole sinister mindset all while housing themselves in an adult body. They CONSTANTLY lie--they cannot stop lying, it's like they have no self control. They are OBSESSED with sex, touching themselves and anything regarding sexual themes. They can't get enough of that. They don't take care of themselves and are very sloppy. They have horrible hygiene and don't do anything for themselves. They are OBSESSED with money and materialistic objects, which they infinitley desire so deeply but wont do anything for themselves to obtain anything. They have ABSOLUTELY no know-how on how to hold a conversation OTHER THAN TO COPY THE THINGS YOU SAY OR THINGS THEY HEAR YOU SAY TO OTHERS!! They also do not know how to start a conversation, that is why they will eves-drop on you so that they can understand how to mimic and copy what you say and how to say it. Shit, they'll even use the same phrases as you, they'll use the same vocabulary as you. It's fu**ing nuts!! They have no interest in building anything with you because they don't mentally comprehend the true purpose of life. This is why it is so painful to be with and around them.
My idea of them is that they are literally just a set of lips with a VERY, VERY annoying voice who does nothing but talk crap, lie, belittle, put down, degrade, copy, repeat, etc. Unfortunately, there is a body and living brain attached to those lips but the lips is all that they use besides their butthole to crap. That's it. Literally.
I know this because I have been with one going on 13 years in june, and when i met him, he asked me to live with him and his family and all of them are Narcissists too. Him, his mom and grandma were the main ones who showed me how evil people could really be. It was a nightmare!! I finally got away from them in 2020 right before the pandemic and now i just deal with him. I've successfully left once and stayed gone for just over 3 years until he flat out lied and tricked me to come back. I was back here for 2 years before i even realized that everything he had been feeding me for the entire 3 years i was gone plus the 2 years of me being back here was all lies and false! But that's just a small portion of the crap so I'll just leave it there.
Just in my opinion though--Vampires seem more egocentric and habit driven. They even dress nice and have a sense of style. Although they live in mad chaos and hide/lurk in the shadows, they are very passionate and from what I understand, through reading quite a few books, reading historical tales and films/documentaries--Vampires DO feel as well.
@@LavendLady TMI. No one needs to hear your life story. Everyone claims to be the ex of , or current wife of a "narcissist" these days. 🥱.

@@tohrurikku I've seen it yesterday. I didn't had huge hopes, but I liked the trailer and Nic Cage as Dracula. The story could have been more exploited, but the performances are great and there are some solid comedy moments. The action scenes were also good and gory and I loved Dracula's more serious moments. It's not a great movie, but worth watching if you want a comedy and have some spare time. For me, it's like a 7/10
Nicolas Cage: "I'll be playing Dracula."
Bela Lugosi: "That's funny!"
I got to participate in a virtual audience test screening for this movie (see edit for details) a few months ago. It wasn’t the full movie, it was various scenes and we would rate how we enjoyed them, if we thought they were funny or not, etc. What I did see looked really fun and entertaining. It gave me a very “What We Do In The Shadows” type of vibe. I’m excited to see the full movie.
EDIT: I did NOT see the entire movie and I’m not trying to claim I have. The thing I participated in was about 30-45 mins including the survey; I would say I saw maybe 15 mins of the films, if that. It was done online and not in person. The purpose of my comment is to say I’m excited about the movie because I saw a small bit of it and I’m eager to see more.
How do you get to be part of a test screening?
Nice. And thanks for the little mini review. You know how sometimes the put all the good stuff in the trailer, and then the movie sucks. It's always a worry. This makes it sound like it might fulfill the promise of the trailer.
