  • 2007 Cadillac SRX RWD, In this video I replace a center support for the drive shaft. The car had loud banging, clanking, grinding, rattling, thumping, shaking, vibrating, pulsing, harmonic, embarrassing noise from directly below the center of the car. Once the car warmed up, it would make some variation of the noise any time you were in a low speed/ high torque acceleration.
Hope this helps some people since I didn't have a lot of luck searching the forums for this exact problem, but I did see some other videos that make me think it really isn't that uncommon of an issue, but perhaps it presents with various symptoms.

Thank you for this! We got two quotes to repair this Driveshaft center bearing for $1200 & $1900. Not sure my car (also 2007) is worth adding this repair so looked around to see how to repair ourselves. The bearing isn't expensive, under $50, but I think both quotes were replacing the whole drive shaft as well. Why I have no idea...well I know why but we're not playing that game. Mine is the AWD but I think relatively same setup. Thanks again!

Thanks for watching, hope you had the same success I did. So far, several thousand miles later, and no issues from the drivetrain since I did this repair.

I think I you can buy the part yourself then take it to the shop you might get different results on prices never let them buy your part I'm from Detroit trust me they can return any part and replace the center barring and return the drive shaft easy 1,000

So I'm sure it changed the driveshaft angle a bit with the new bearing, as you showed in the video, have you had any noticable concern's? I have the same bearing which may be an proved design, so I was curious.

I have not noticed any concerns regarding the angle, it may change how the driveshaft sits at an idle state but since the rear end moves up and down while driving that angle is changing constantly anyhow. I guess it could improve or reduce the life of the knuckle and bearing if the shaft was less strait.

Hello there, I know this video is a year old, yours is a 07 srx, mine is a 06srx rwd. 3.6l. Anyway I attempted to take my driveshaft off yesterday and got to the point of removing the rear driveshaft. Although my driveshaft would not separate in the front of the rubber where the bolts are located. Was wondering how yours came apart so easily? Did your driveshaft bearing location have play? Mine seems locked in. So any info. Would be appreciated👍I think I'm gonna have to go behind that rubber in between it and the differential, and end up taking the whole shaft out.

It separated easily on mine. I was not in a position under the car for great leverage and it pulled apart. That’s not much help for you but I don’t think it would be much more to drop the front with it. Might be able to see if something else is wrong once you get it totally off. I started that repair planning to take it all off, but obviously I didn’t. Good luck on the fix.

@@strongfix appreciate the reply👍 seems mine may be a little different as those 3 bolts you took out of your rear driveshaft, mine would only go so far and hang up on the connection to the differential. So I couldn't pull them all the way out. Appreciate your reply 👍

@@Hotelguitarplayer I am thinking that either the shaft is made different (it does not have the splined connection under that boot) or it is locked up / frozen in that spot and shouldn't be. Maybe if that boot was torn or loose, moisture could have gotten in there and seized the splines? Can you pull back the boot and see spines? Maybe some penetrating oil sprayed in there and or some heat applied to the outside of that would help. When I slid the rear end of the drive shaft forward, I believe that the rear shaft slipped into the forward shaft at the splines to allow it to drop, if yours doesn't slip at that joint, then perhaps you could drop the knuckle in the middle so far down it will clear it in the back? Might not have enough space to drop it with the exhaust still there.

My Cadillac made very bad clunky noise when you turn right and when you drive down the road it starting to sheck

Interesting, not sure this would cause that specific issue but anything is possible 🤔. I'm just a DIY mechanic but maybe an issue in the steering or tie rod assemblies?

I would start with inspecting the lower control arm bushings or cv axle if it is all wheel drive. It seems like when those front suspensions start to go, it's time to rebuild the front end...
