The older I get, the more I crave 5 to 15 hour games... Im rooting for the developers who are crafting tight gameplay experiences with linear progression... Games with something to say, rather than, "make your own fun!". Give me more Metal Gear Rising Revengence.... Or DMC5.....
If you haven't played the A Plague Tale's 2 games, I highly recommend, great story and characters.
I'm complety with your opinion, even though Dmc didn't catch me. Fast passed, tight single player experiences are refreshing between 100h+ bangers like Baldurs Gate 3.
@@andrebaggins6439i feel you. Just played shadow of the tomb raider a week ago and i loved it. Also didnt overstay its welcome
I agree. I'm tired of vast empty games where I'm wasting time not doing anything or needing to grind (Destiny) to even enjoy the content.
I’m with you, and feel the exact same way. Someone above mentioned the Plague Tale games, and I agree. The second one especially. Great stories
The impact of Mirror's Edge CANNOT be overstated even though the IP itself is dormant. Every FPS to this day still use its motion mechanics. Amazing game, sequel, soundtrack
Man its amazing and am about to get the platinum for the game
(Its a torture by the way)
Yeah I really wish we could get another one
M. E does not get enough recognition
@@rankoldbeast3479 Mirror's Edge Catalyst also doesn't get enough recognition; it's actually a really good game IMO even though a lot of ppl hated it at launch
I love apex and i can vouch for this comment
Falcon understands the plight of the middle-aged working dad.
Amen to that brother.
Came here to say the same
Yo
Preach.
dont even need to be a dad, or middle aged, though im close. theres days i feel i spend more time thinking about what to play than actually playing.
I’m honestly kinda shocked that STRAY didn’t get mentioned. Such a memorable experience and an absolute masterpiece of a short, intricate game people unfortunately seem to already have forgotten about.
Definitely worth a mention (and playing of course in case you haven’t yet)!
It's really not that great though
I was actually about to comment this! I had it this Christmas from my brother and it was so freaking good! 😃
I thought it would be top 3 tbh. I know Falcon is a fan, so probably a brain fart (?)
I came to say the same thing. One of the best games made in years. The solid story puts it ahead of the Playdead games.
The game is ass if you have played more then 3 other games in your life and have something to compare it to.
Some games are fun with friends. Others can drive you to violence. I'd love to see you guys tackle the most frustrating co-op experiences.
Brother wrote the intro and everything, this be a good idea
As someone who has literally gotten into fistfights because of Mariokart 64… I would also like to see this list…
overcooked definitely
Bread and Fred
*Spams the callout in Resident Evil 5*
Would add a honourable mention for What Remains of Edith Finch - series of fun little games wrapped up in a really clever 'walking sim'
This one though. My first playthrough was like a breathe of fresh of air from bigger titled games and it being linear and semi short was nice.
Vanquish is an absolute gem, very good Platinium games title.
Disappointed to not see Stray on the list
Its 9 hours+
@@bilal6865 I completed it by 6 and half hours
Vanquish is amazing. It is a Third Person Shooter design by Hack and Slash perspective. It was perfect. Also, if you feel bad about the price tag compared to the length; There is a collection of it and Bayonetta for PS4 and Xbox 1 which makes the price tag a bit more fair (as Bayonetta is longer).
👍🏼
👍
👍🏻
I really expected to see Stray on this list. excellent short game, and can be completed in under 2 hours if you know what youre doing. my initial playthrough was 6 hours admittedly, but I made sure to fully explore everything for the 100%
And I love cats
Stray was awesome! 😸
Love Brothers A Tale of TWO Sons. One of my favourite games.
I would add Journey to that list. One of the best single player experiences ever. And The Artful Escape. Super fun chill single sitting games to play.
This video ignores the emotional impact of that game. It affected me like no other game has ever done.
These are valuable!! As I get older, I notice more and more that I don't have as much time for lengthy games. Thanks for the list y'all
I loved Carrion. The monster looks so unwieldy but it was surprisingly easy to control. I really hope they make a sequel.
Yeah I had never even heard of it before this video. Looks awesome though
Yep, I remember taking my time with it because I was scared of it ending lol
Needs a part 2
I felt like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme when Falcon did the Carrion segment. I've had it for a couple of years and I've never seen anyone talk about it. I haven't finished it tho, I think I'm stuck in one of the levels. Gonna revisit it now that I know it's a short game, I'm prolly close to the end
It fills my heart seeing people dote on Carrion, such an underrated game.
I really hoped to see Gris in this list as I consider it to be one of the best short game I have ever played. Gris is barely 3hr long and it is absolutely beautiful.
yes!
I thought it was pretty boring. Art style was beautiful though.
It's completely understandable if some people find the game boring. Gris in my opinion is a beautiful piece of art and as a lot of people say "Art is subjective".
in my back catalog of games to play - got it on sale for 8 bucks - have you played Oxenfree by any chance ?
I loved Firewatch and finished my first playthrough in about 4 hours or so. (I also love the Stanley Parable, but I'll mention The Beginner's Guide for short, albeit existential crisis-generating gameplay)
Love this list! Not everyone has a lot of time playing long games, so these short games are excellent.
I played a game on Gamepass called Bramble: the mountain king, it was short, creepy, had an interesting story and was done pretty quick. Worth a mention for this kind of list.
👍🏼
It's really good. Beating some bosses even feels souls like.
Papers, Please is another great game that can be completed in around 5 hours. It has an interesting story with choices that actually matter, and none of them are the "feel good" binary options you find in most modern games, either.
Great list! This could definitely use a part 2 and maybe even 3. Enjoying shorter games as I get older and don’t have as much time to play. One word: Stray
STRAY was such an incredible and touching story. Just wrote a comment before seeing yours how I was baffled to not see this game mentioned in the list.
Truly a masterpiece of a short game which should be mentioned and acknowledged much more often imo!
Hell yeah let’s give stray some love
Love me some short games, thanks for this list!
Yeah I remember back in the day giving Portal a go after finishing HL2 one evening …. and literally being so engrossed with it I finished Portal that night! 👍🏻
Ok 5 hours, as a working father I’m absolutely in for this list 😂
Yo for real. So many of these massive games these days have deliberate time wasting mechanics that I can't stand anymore.
Rdr2 being amongst the worst of them.
@@KidBowsur I’m enjoying Helldivers 2 and Tekken 8 at the moment. Both great pick up and play games for a busy person.
Nice list, we need like 10 more of this. Great job, guys.
Stray is also a good one. The cat game in a robot controlled environment.
I couldn't get through it... Got bored, maybe I will retry it... I'm more of a dog guy I guess 😂
Alien vs Predator was actually such an underrated game imo
As a kid that was obsessed with alien and predator and alien va predator, I cameth in thy(my) trousers
@@heralduk5839 predator concrete jungle is the best predator concrete jungle
Short & sweet games are my jam! Thanks for the recommendations.
Thanks for including Little Nightmares, I'm replaying 1 & 2 right now and they're my fave horror games out there, love 'em both
Short games are becoming my new addiction! Long games can be great but I often don't really KNOW if I'm going to like a big game until Ive already put in dozens of hours.
Short games have to throw their best stuff at you right away and so I immediately know if I'll like it
Unless you're talking about an MMO then no, 4 hours is all you need to know if you're going to like a long game
Some longer you will know do you like the game or not frx god of war few moment you know you are going to continued the journey or not but the know more life's strange 2 I hour I lknow If I continued the story or not so there 100 game that you want play at the moment
Cocoon was a great experience from start till finish! loved every second of it, the puzzles is good and not overly challenging
Also this list has some of the best singleplayer games period. Because the good thing about short games is, they usually don't get repetitive or tedious. Just a bunch of unique ideas back to back with no down time.
This list is made for me and I love it as much as I love short games now.
With two remote jobs and a family, I usually have not enough time to play games now, I have maybe 1 or 2 hours a day if I'm lucky to play. A single game of these can take me maybe a whole week to complete and I'm fine with that. I already played most of these games, but there some I don't and I just added them to my wishlist.
Thank you so much for this. Hope we get follow up videos with even more games.
I just picked up "Bramble: The Mountain King" on a whim, and I absolutely love it. For a game that has a 98% positive reaction, and 10/10 or 5/5 on critic reviews, I'm amazed that you didn't mention this.. I'm surprised that there's hardly any CZcams mention of this game.
Bro facts, i finished Bramble on a sunday and it was a really interesting, nice experience. It's gameplay isn't perfect, but it was a nice short trip into a dark fairy tale.
Yeah this game was trending on social media for its wild trailer and gameplay snippet like a year or 2 ago, and then when it came out on Game Pass no media outlet even tried to cover it
Game is one of the best indie games of the last few years. What are these media guys doing
Great list! Going to add a few more I highly recommend for semi-quick playthroughs:
- OuterWilds (5 or less depending on your puzzle solving skill)
- Bramble
- Twelve Minutes
- Backbone
I've spent like 6h in Outer Wilds without coming even close to solving everything
If you go through Outer Wilds in 5 hours you have pretty much skipped over the vast majority of the game.
Outer Wilds is amazing, and one of my all time favs, but definitely took me like 30 hours. Don’t wanna rush that one
@@welcomemcnall I guess it’s been a while since I’ve played, but yes, can definitely take longer if you take your time to explore (which you should). Either way, I never miss an opportunity to recommend this game 😂
@@welcomemcnall but technically, the game has to be beaten in 22 minutes 😉
Mirror's edge is actually so underrated, just a unique game
Collecting those 69 stars was tough
I remember when that trailer hit with that music. I knew I'd love that game
It's a very well known classic which blew the socks off of everyone at the time and was successful enough to get a sequel, I know because I was there, so I wouldn't say underrated, but definitely something always worth recommending
Another super underrated game is GTA V
Since Everything is underrated now somehow
Thank you for finally appreciating Resident Evil 3 Remake, it's an amazing game.
Gave loved yo katana z. 👍
Great list. Good vid as always falcon. U da man 😊
You can't forget the amazing sound track from Solar Fields in Mirror's Edge.
Carrion was/is amazing. It was so fun and I do wish it were longer.
Oh man, I absolutely loved Journey. Smoked a joint and had a lovely and surreal experience rolling through this intriguing world with very enjoyable movement.
So glad Superliminal was on this list. I don't think it gets talked about enough. Such a cool concept. Fantastic soundtrack as well.
Maquette.
As a father with small kids this is exactly what I needed.
totally digging the fact that Falcon is being featured here way more as of late. i dig his smooth voice.
Love how CoJ Gunslinger keeps appearing in Gameranx lists! Totally deserving!
I love the fact that you highlighted RE3. It’s my favorite one of the bunch and one of the only games I’ve ever platinumed
cheap, short games are my jam! I'd take these over a 40+ hour behemoth anyday
I hope we get a mirror edge 1 remaster someday, it still looks incredible for a ps3 game today.
As someone who didnt play the original re3 im not as salty for it being so short, dont think i could handle a spider level anyway haha 😅
RUINER, one of my absolute favorite games!!!!!! Loved everything about it! The atmosphere, the gameplay, the soundtrack, and so on... INSANE!!! And, honestly, I dig that ending! ❤
More tips on games like these would be awesome! Shorter single player games are so fun sometimes! Great video thnx!!!!
Brothers A Tale of Two Sons is an emotional ride
I'd also recommend Viewfinder. A puzzle game where you overlay photos (and other pictures) onto the environment to make them part of it.
I've never played it but I remember watching a video about it, looks interesting!
Finally, games I can actually finish! You're a hero to busy gamers! Keep saving our backlogs (and sanity)!
Loved the video! You should make this a series.
Amazing list... We really need shorter games... That feeling of finishing a game in a weekend is something I miss a lot.
I'd suggest a list "games you can replay in a few hours" - because I love to replay the main story (up to the mountain) of *Celeste* once or twice a year - when you know how to beat the levels it just takes a few hours casually up there and I love it! My first run was longer.
I love shorter games that are great to replay over and over again in a few hours - it's like watching your favorite movies again.
That's what this list is, almost every entry he mentions he "replays in 5 hours or less.
@@Axtrudithorize for a lot of them this works, but games like Portal, Carrion, Slay the princess for me are games I won't likely play more than once (though I replayed Portal 1 once and Portal 2 twice). I'd like a list for games specifically that ate great for endless replays :)
@@headjump803you should try Super Mario Land on the original Gameboy, probably finished that at least 40 times through the years! 😅
Sifu would be a good example. As you get better at it the playthroughs most likely get shorter
i thought Resident Evil 3 got lukewarm reviews, definitely not on par with the excellence of RE2 remake.
really short games are a nice change of pace when so many are 20-30+ hours and on. thanks for highlighting. I would like to mention Renegade Ops from the PS3/360 era. Really fun vehicle combat game that I don't hear many talk about.
Falcon and Gameranx starting off the new year wonderfully. It should be a great year for gaming.....I hope.
I highly recommend the Henry Stickmin collection and Valiant Hearts the Great war. Great stories!
I love breaking up longer games with one or more short games. Great idea for a list. Added Carrion to my backlog
Great list brothers, little nightmares and wild hearts were a joy to play.
What's in RE3R is damn enjoyable imo. It's just a real shame they weren't given more time to work on it.
I like it for a short but sweet action game, but I understand people feeling like their favorite RE game got chopped up so badly. Feels more like a (very good) dlc for 2 than it’s own game.
Also no Grave Digger boss! That would’ve been great in the remake.
The order 1886.
Very short but an absolute work of art snf and a joy to play through
Game 100% needs ps5 update would make it look current gen.
@@samza9622 it still looks pretty good!
This list was made for me. Thank you.
Yo Falcon, Thanks man. There’s games in here I have overlooked.
And I am gonna go play Carrion, and then Call of Juarez, right now. 🤘🧐
Nemesis is much more terrifying than Mr X, X is slow, predictable and you can hear his loud footsteps from miles away. On the other hand, Nemesis is much faster, he can grab u with his tentacle and he can jump on the top of your head, also he makes normal zombies much more dangerous.
What an incredible idea for a video. I've never bought so many games from a list within a video. Almost bought half. Can't wait to play them, thank you!
🤝
So happy Slay the princess was on this list (even if just a bonus) I loved this game and because there are so many paths you can take it can definitely last longer than 3 hours but first playthrough was quick and so satisfying!
Please do part 2&3 of these I really really appreciate short campaign - easy to beat games .. so I restore my passion for gaming.
Now I really want one of these lists but for 10-15 hour long games!
They already did one for ~10h
@@FSousA7X oh I should look for it! Thank you for letting me know!
How does that make sense? That's the majority of games so it would just be a 'best games' list which can easily number in the hundreds. No, a 5-10 hour list makes way way more sense!
@@cenciende9401 That could work as well. And most of the games I've been playing (I'm new to gaming in a way, played as a kid and now picked it up again) have been between 40-100h... the latter being mostly the Zeldas and RDR2. So yea, forgive me, I assumed most games were on the 30-40h mark bc that's the ones I have played since I picked a console back up :) Good to know there are so many smaller ones!! Big games are fun but exhausting at times.
I can always appreciate shorter games. Not everybody has infinite time to play bloated open world games.
👍🏼
So happy to see Furi getting some love, one my favourite all time games, art design and combat is so rewarding
glad you mentioned Titanfall 2. my most favorite campaign in terms of fps games by far
No "Stray" or :What remains of edith finch"? Really?!?
Probobly one of my favorite short single players that I have played recently was Song of Nunu. Its fun, simple and cute as hell and I enjoyed every minute. Plus if stand close to Willump you can press a button to hug him.
Nice list. Between work, social life and other obligations, the shorter games trully are an oasis.
Games you could finish in 10 hrs would also be a great idea for a vid!
Unpacking is one of the best chill games out there! Platinum’d it in 3 hours. So relaxing!!
Much love gameranx fam🖤🕹️🖥️ hope the new years treating yall well so far !
Great list!
If anybody is looking for a similar musical, but also super artsy and colorful experience, look no further than The Artful Escape.
I clocked at a bit over 5 hours on Steam and it's been an amazing journey.
Another mention for Journey and Abzu!
Very great and short games, can't praise them enough.
Good video 👍👍.. u can make part 2..add what remains of edith finch/ hellblade/ stray/ bastion/ papers please/ gris/ a short hike/ spec Ops the line and many more.
Thanks Falcon and GameRanx crew! I'd never heard of 'Inside' before and think I'll pick it up on Steam today! It looks cool! Thx for all the amazing content!
Great video here in TN snowed in, and this was a great surprise in my feed
To echo other posters, I don't have loads of time to sink into games any more. Just finished firewatch and soma from Falcons previous mid\short time list. Thank you for this one.
AvP Vanquish and R.E revolutions 2 are dam good games imo. Great list, thanks Falcon
Thx for reminding me about Ruiner! I've been on a cyberpunk kick since 2077. I'm almost done with Ghostrunner 2. I'm definitely getting Ruiner for my switch.
Defo need to play Vanquish it's literally my type of game but never got around to it i missed out on the double pack with bayonetta so i dont know if its even still on Xbox.
SOLID LIST, Thanks Falcon
My favourite from this category is GRIS: its visuals are captivating, doesn't overstay its welcome and the story is quite touching too. I remember I finished it in one go!
To this day the only game I've played to ever touch on the subject of a man becoming aware of and fighting against toxic masculinity while embracing the femininity in all of us (whatever that's supposed to be in modern social constructs, biologically and historically there is no such thing we are all just people with different bits between our legs), truly a brilliant experience I recommend to everyone I meet if games come up
GRIS. so emotionally hard and beautifully made game. made me cry at my first walkthrough in the ending. literally couldn't push myself to replay despite that wanted so bad. so tough, so beautiful, so filled with pain, so clean emotions. gosh, I need to replay it.
What an awesome list 💯💯💯. Sayonara Wild Hearts is the only game that I've never played from the list.
This list is really awesome and perfect to start the year. I suggest people jump in these before the end of the year.
I looooved AvP so much, it was such a blast to play through.
That lil beat bumping intro was kinda dope. Had a vibe going for a minute
I would recommend ‘What Remains of Edith Finch’.
One of the most emotional experiences I’ve ever had playing a game.
I think Resident Evil 3 was so great for what it was: short but very great and very fun. Awesome set pieces and a dope story
thank you for talking about Furi ... I think its very underrated and no one talks about it
Oh man AVP was my favorite growing up. Still love the start of the alien campaign starting off as a facehugger
Great video! I'd definitely add Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier, short and great single campaign, about 2.5h
I recommend season a letter to the future! It's so good you decide yourself if you wanna take it slow or playthrough it quickly. The story line is soooo good! It's definitely more of an relaxing game than like a hardcore fighter. Also more of an tip at one point they're gonna talk about the fact that you only have an "day" it isn't timed so don't worry I thought it was so I was running around like crazy 😂😅 no need you can take your time and discover everything.
Vanquish is probably one of my favorites on this list. I had no idea what it was, but it looked cool, was on gamepass some years back. Once I picked it up, I couldn't stop playing.
Loved this list. I have a few of these and need to run thru them.
I got through Mirror's Edge in about 3.5 hours. You can't help but move fast through it. I still love that game
More parts of this, please! Very cool selections!
