A powerful affordable handheld might be their saving grace, with releasing all their games elsewhere it is hard to sale an Xbox but a handheld is a different story. I do believe that they could sale more consoles if they had more exclusive games, there are plenty of mostly single player gamers like me that are willing to own multiple consoles for the right game, I also think the 30% from every piece of third party software could equal more money then selling some more of their own games somewhere else. Will just have to wait and see if their strategy pays off.

The most notable detail about the new models is not the lack of optical drive on two out of three but that the chip set remains unchanged. The tech specs on the Xbox site indicate the process node remains 7NP for all models. Porting to 6NP would have allowed for some significant power draw reduction and in turn more compact cooling solutions, allowing for an overall smaller unit like the PS5 slim model. BUT... getting that port done is not an inexpensive prospect. Tens of millions of dollars at the least before the new APU were ready for mass production. This means Microsoft isn't expecting to sell enough of all Xbox models to justify that investment. It also means there will be no 'Pro' model, and that it was not expected to generate enough revenue to help justify moving to 6NP, rather than focusing any new chip level work on the generation to come at some point.

Microsoft wanting to justify these decisions based on immediate measurable growth is a mistake. Their focus as a gaming console brand (one far back in 3rd place) should be to build brand recognition, brand trust, and even loyalty if possible. If Microsoft treats xbox like a soulless business, it'll end up a dead business. Gamers need an identity and a reason to get excited for your products, not excuses on why you need profit so you didn't do cool things.
Profits should be the long game right now because they really need to catch up on building multiple reasons to love xbox. It can't just be game pass.

I was an advocate for exclusivity for a long time. Was fun partaking in gentle banter back & forth over the years. Even both brands enjoyed the banter once upon a time. Now I see (kicking & screaming lol) the bigger picture of, opening games to more platforms strengthening the brand. (Something even PS are realising with PC & Switch deals) Stronger the brand, bigger ROI for them, stronger the reinvestment, more games by brand for me. Hopefully.
For my Xbox gaming, I’ll still be doing it all on an Xbox console. Regardless whomever else gains access to the games, won’t affect my gaming.m or which device I choose.

(I’d be open to it though) However, offering the core package of GP to other platforms would make great sense, without diminishing the service or brand. Even though PS has previously stated they have zero interest in allowing it, Core could be more easily accepted for PS. Nintendo I’m not too sure off, maybe for the new handheld from both makes GPU worthy & makes it easier to get the deal of a decades worth of Xbox games on their platform. End of the day, devices/games are getting more expensive, down to personal choice & where your main hub of friends are. Question: Why is it a negative thing if moving forward people are going to questioning whenever or not a XBoX game is going to other platforms? Thats actually a good thing. Did you realize people simply cant stop taking about XBoX these days, especially on PS centric channels? It is actually PS who cornered theirselves to a corner, locked to a plastic box and only now, in 2024, making movements to reach new audiences while XBoX is already taken the entire room.. Consoles are a niche market, its no longer the driving force in gaming anymore. People at XBoX noticed this years ago and have been working for years to make XBoX something bigger than a console, working on partnerships (NVidia, Samsung, Steam, etc..) and distribution, owning some of the biggest publishers and IPs now...
Just look at this showcase, the XBoX showcase might as well become the new E3. EVERYONE will be watching and every publisher wants to be there and/or Game Pass. Players dont wanna be locked to a the niche/restricted ecosystem behind a plastic box anymore, I gain absolutely nothing that way, I would rather play in a ecosystem thats literally everywhere.

thats the issue xbox want more players, more sales, more subs but then think porting games to your competition ps5 ( pc and nintendo aren't competition) while they aren't putting their games on your system makes buying an xbox pointless. The rhetoric will be why buy an xbox when you can buy a ps5 and play everything, xbox then lose gamepass subs, lose revenue from sales of 3rd party games because people aren't buying the console and then only making money from sales on other platforms where they will have to pay like 30 %.

More and more 3rd party games will skip their console because sales will become abysmal.

It doesn't matter if you can play everything on Playstation, because everything will be sold for 70$ a piece , but all of those games will be available on Gamepass for 16$ a month, day one.
Xbox is not selling you a console, Xbox is selling you options. The option to play all of their games on pc, or on a console if you don't want a pc or can't afford it, on your phone or tablet, or on multiple handhelds if that's your thing. All of that for 16$ a month, and Day one.
Xbox presented 17 first party titles during their showcase, Playstation released less firts party titles in the last 4 years. If you want to buy all of those games Day one on Playstation, how much money will you have to spend versus the cost of Gamepass ?
On Playstation, COD will be sold 70$, but you need to subscribe to Psplus essential to play COD which cost 90$ a year, for a total of 160$. How much is Gamepass with BO6 included ? 160$. But for the same price, 160$, you also have access to all the Gamepass library, and all of xbox's first party titles Day one. Do you get it ?

    • @SavageSaint9
      @SavageSaint9 Před 11 dny +1

@@maximelemay8444 logically you make sense but gamers don’t buy systems out of pure logic. You have to understand. Gamepass hasn’t made Xbox more attractive to anyone. People are going to where their friends are going. That’s PlayStation, Nintendo and PC. People will just simply wait for Xbox games to come and go on sale.
If in a year you see their console sales have declined still year over year it’s not going to get better. Once more 3rd party games start to skip Xbox it is a dying console. And you should probably think about where you should start migrating next as a gamer. I’ve gone PC.

Don't hold your breathe on that. Using the existing Series X APU would result in a machine with a battery life measured in minutes rather than hours. A handheld Series S would be better in that regard but would likely compare unfavorably with the next generation of Nintendo Switch, which appears to be a given for 2025, and at the high end would be competing with handhelds using much more recent AMD APUs to which there would be no comparison.
A very notable feature of the new generation of AMD APUs due to show up in devices later this year is power scaling. The same chip is claimed to be usable across a broad set of power profiles. This means a handheld using the Strix Halo could be fairly good as a 1080p mobile device and a fully on par or better than existing consoles when docked for full power and an external display at 4K. such a handheld would need a significantly higher price point than what Nintendo will target with the Switch successor but just how high is for the engineers to determine. something more intended to be upgradable (mainly the storage) than the Steamdeck could allow for reasonable cost of entry without the buyer feeling stuck later.

Just like the saying goes, "It's the economy, stupid", the saying Xbox is still struggling with is "It's the games, stupid". While it is true most people buy consoles based on where their friends play, I know a lot of people, myself included, who are older and buy/bought a console based on the game(s) alone. I bought a PS5 slim last Christmas, for Gran Turismo 7, because MS fumbled the ball so badly with Forza Motorsport. I may be an outlier, but I know a lot of others who did the same. So, it's not just friends, but the games. More importantly, it's the quality of games Xbox is still lacking. All of the announcements at the Xbox Showcase looked promising, but until we play them, Xbox's mindshare for quality AAA games is still in doubt compared to Nintendo, and Sony.

The argument comes down to if Xbox is desperate for money and sales numbers then why are they still making any game exclusive? Why are they signing 3rd party timed exclusive deals? Give up on all your exclusives, sell them on PS make a boatload of cash up front amd realize your console is dead. My guess is the series consoles (S and X) are the last full sized consoles Xbox will do, they will continue to release all their IPs onto PS slowly to the point their is nothing on Xbox you cant play on PS while nothing major from PS will be on Xbox and ar that point they will release the handheld that has access to gamepass to try and entice those PS owners to buy a cheaper portable console.

As a “diehard” Xbox fan, I “should” be upset that Xbox exclusives are headed to PS, but I’m not. I think this is the future of the industry, no more console exclusives, and Microsoft is just ahead of the game.

The answer is Sony hardware is ugly and inferior. The only real reason it ever performs better is because it's the lead platform with more development and optimization time. Facts. Xbox is best.

Microsoft still need exclusives if they do not do this they will be no reason to buy an Xbox console ever again simple as that. No one wants to be paying $80 for a game and $1000 for a console because that's exactly what will happen if Sony is on their own.

Bradley the only one going all digital is xbo because they need to make every penny of that 80 billion back lol. Sony is building a facility in s. America specifically for the manufacturing of physical games. Smh nobody is following Xbox. Nobody cares about it only in the us and that is dwindling
