We had a 2020 RAV4 hybrid. It left my wife and I stranded and after the main hybrid cable crapped out due to corrosion. It was just past the warranty mileage and was going to cost us $6000 CAD to fix at the dealer. We were devastated and lost our trust in Toyota. Due to part shortage it took 4 weeks to fix and when I went to pick it up the service manager told me Toyota paid for the repair, tow and car rental. I still can’t believe it, but they did do us right so I give them credit for that. In reality, any vehicle as a mechanical device can suffer from a breakdown. I really hope Toyota is taking good care of the customers who are suffering from a catastrophic engine failure in their tundra.
that’s great to hear. I am pretty sure Toyota will do the same thing. The one problem is there’s only so many master technicians out there that will be able to do this fix so there’s gonna be a probably tremendously long waiting. Which is an inconvenience for many tundra owners out there however, I’m sure Toyota will try to do the best they can to accommodate people. As of now to avoid any pain or trouble, I will be avoiding purchasing a new tundra.
@@SoarAndMore We have an '18 RAV4 XLE hybrid of the last generation. Much better built in Japan than the newer ones. Perfect in every way! The last generation '16-'18 may be the BEST RAV4s ever. I believe that and a lot cheaper too.

I used to be a fanboy blinded by the illusion that Toyota's were invincible but not any more. Sadly my oldest son just bought a 24 crew cab 4x4 limited and I hope that they do right by him when this happens. If you've ever had anything to do with cars debris in the oil will circulate throughout the entire engine and ruin everything. If the damage is limited to the mains then this is a design flaw.

Just traded my 23 crew 4x4 limited with pano roof for a 24 Titan XD PRO4X while it’s still worth something. Titan is solid and tight. No wind noise. No bouncy suspension. Everything is better in my opinion. Check one out while you can still get one.

Willing to bet shaving in the manufacture process is not the issue. I drove my 2023 Tundra on a 600 mile trip last week. 22 mpg. If I get a recall I'll have to think long and hard. Chances the local dealer can install a new engine with no issues are slim and none.
You are correct, and apparently only Toyota master diagnostic technicians are the ones that can do the repair that is that drastic. So think about it for a second. The Toyota dealership I was at only has five of those staffed. Get sick personal have family emergencies personal have vacations plus maybe the dealership actually has the equipment to be able to pull the body off of the frame of the actual pick up truck then think about how these MDT have to actually learn the whole process on how to pull these trucks apart because it’s a completely new generation. You have to worry about the parts, not putting it together correctly and there are a ton of horror stories of people getting their trucks back after this major repair and it’s not the same simple little things like volume knobs are broken dings den scratches all over the place. There’s a lot more rattling because they probably forgot to install clips where they need to be. I just recently had my Tacoma serviced and they had to pull the whole dash off the evaporator coil and the dash seems a little bit loose. And it’s to be expected because everything is held together now with a few bolts and a lot of plastic clips. Which thinks because now it’s just a normal wear and tear process of a vehicle but if you buy a brand new one and your engine blows and they have to do this to your vehicle and it has less than 10,000 miles. I would be absolutely pissed. It is something to think about. Also, I did the math for per capita has a less engine failure than the brand new tundra. As it stands right now, a tundra engine is four times more likely to fail the Ford eco-boost. That’s a sign that Toyota is not in the right direction whatsoever.
So the American factory workers designed, spec’d the parts, set production rates that is to blame for poor quality cars? Blame the management at those companies.

I own a 2024 tundra and I am having my 3rd transmission installed at 10k miles. It’s a total nightmare between the dealership and Toyota corporation. They are not going to roll over and hand you your money back or put you in a new car…and sadly a new car may just lead to more problems. Would highly advise those considering to purchase this truck to look elsewhere.

There is a lemon law and I very well may be headed in that direction. It’s a long process and Its not a guarantee I would win the case. Hoping to work something out with Toyota to avoid what otherwise will be a bad hit for me in a 4 month timeframe

So happy to own 2 brand new 2024 TRD Offroad Premium 4Runners in my garage. Clear title on both. Both in Underground. Last of the great real Toyota vehicles made and assembled in Japan. Took a 100 pics of the new Tundra on a dealer lot and this junk did not have two straight lines or panel gaps anywhere. It was so pathetic and sad to see this junk at 75000. I had to laugh and cry in the same moment.
I know man, congrats on the 4Runners, my 2018 taco is made in Mexico. It’s crazy how bad the gaps are in all of Toyota products now. Guess they charge extra for worse quality every where? Crazy times ahead…
Good points! I just bought my last Toyota yesterday…a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro, it will definitely last as long as I take care of it. I really wanted a Tundra but aside from the current engine issue it is just so poor in quality. Big gaps in the body parts, tons of thin plastics on the interior and rattles that are completely unacceptable for such a high price vehicle. So sad to see where Toyota went with the Tundra 🤦♂️
The engine is the same in the Hybrid models. Toyota is not recalling Hybrid models because the truck still has motive power if the engine fails. The engine in Hybrid models is affected by this issue.

No manufacturer can sell a new vehicle that has a open recall. That is why the recall does not include 2024.

Thanks for the video. My engine failed a week ago. 23 trd sport 4x4, 25k miles. waiting to see what happens. I’ve asked for Toyota to buy me out so I can get into another vehicle. Doesn’t seem that will happen because Toyota dealer told me I’d have negative equity carry to the new loan. smh has been a week and per service dept. we’re waiting on a Toyota rep to come look at my truck

Back in the 90s I had a 93 4Runner and at 71,000 miles the head gaskets blew. It ended up being a big issue as almost all their V6s did it. Toyota replaced my engine for free even though it was well out of warranty. I was impressed. Bought a 2020 Rav 4. Damn thing had issues as soon as the 36K mile warranty expired. I actually got a maintenance light at 35K but couldn’t get into the dealership for two weeks. By the time I got it in the vehicle had a little over 36K on it. $500 for a new sensor that went out! No love from Toyota this time. Now I see what they have with this engine. I think I’m done with Toyota for a while. Their quality is slipping. I know one thing, lll never buy a Toyota with this engine in it.

As a toyota owner, this is sad. I feel like the resale value will not be as high anymore if they keep making crappy vehicles. They need to stick with the old school boring engines. Thats what toyota fans love.
I totally agree with you however, the government regulations have forced car manufacturers to make these different engines so therefore there will be less emissions. Apparently the CEO also has a few controversies against him and lying about crash ratings in Japan with DeHatsu. Seems like corporate greed is getting the best of him. I was going to purchase our seventh Toyota vehicle and the Toyota tundra however I can’t because there is reliability issues and for a possible price of $85,000 plus it is not worth the hassle for me.
I heard Toyota is not recalling 2024 because if they do then they cannot sell them and Toyota needs the revenue. So the 2024 may be recalled at a later date. The prices are way out of my price range 😱 I bought my new 2017 SR5 V8 5.7L with convenience package out the door for $32k. I’ll be keeping my beautiful Tundra for a very, very long time 😂 thank you for your videos
Congratulations on a great tundra. I’m on the hunt for a used one. But I guess it will be tough luck now lol! That absolutely stinks about having to wait to recall a vehicle. So many people will be in a bad situation. I’m already starting to see reports of 2024 engines blowing… what a mess

Your right I would wait to buy. I did watch a video on this engine. Toyota has been putting this twin turbo v6 in their lexus line up since 2018 with lots of success. Unfortunately this is just a bump in the road. 5.7 v8 had more issues in the beginning than this engine but social media blows it out of the water now days. Chevrolet 6.2 is blowing up under 10k miles. If it's mechanical it can break down but I'd say Toyota hasn't become less reliable but more as a computer glitch in their systems during the engine Milling process because the Japanese facility had the same issue. It'll be fine once it's corrected.

I’m a proud owner of an early tundra. Great flawless truck. However I would not buy one today given all the bad publicity. I have a truck no one will not take even on a trade in. I’ve been screwed. I just hope Toyota steps up and does the right thing like Chevy did

I have a 2017 Kia sorrento with 100k miles. The engine needs the head rebuilt and a new (because it rotted) fuel line. I’m looking at 6 grand to get it fixed and they have been working on it for a month now. Kia has not stood behind their product and made things right. They seem like they could care less. I will not buy another Kia.

Toyota hasn’t been as reliable as they used to be. Had AC unit changed out for $2500 and still not working, they then said it was evaporator box and needed $1400 for that. WTF is going here! Toyota mechanic really F-up their diagnostic here!
That literally just happened to me. My 2018 Tacoma evaporator box had a leak and they said it was covered under warranty. Then I found out afterwards that it was not covered under warranty and they wanted to charge me $2000. It cost 65 bucks. I know there’s a lot of labor-intensive stuff when it comes to removing the whole dashboard steering wheel and center console. I was just irritated. They told me it was covered under warranty was not. I have no clue what’s going on with Toyota. Disappointed.

I believe there is more than a few 24 Tundras with blown engines on CZcams. I heard they would not be able to sell the 24s if they were included in the recall.
As I dig further and further more and more people are coming out about their tundras engines blowing especially the 2024s!

we have placed a deposit for a GH Hybrid Limited that was supposed to arrive this weekend. it got pushed twice and now it is expected for next week. This recall has certainly something to do with it.
Given the high sticker price we are paying for it for being toyota, I am not sure what to expect or do in my negotiation.

What did you sign when you gave the deposit? Most dealerships won’t give back the deposit. You won’t get your GH till the recall is corrected.

They said that once the car gets to the dealership I have 24 hours to move forward to close the sale, if not, they refund me and sell the car to someone else.
Car was delayed again, expection for delivery now is this weekend. They said that recall does not affect all vehicles and mine was not affected. That was sus for me tbh.
I am hesitant to move forward with the sale now. Does this gives any negotiatin leverage to buyers ?
@@AngelArkable all great questions, the information I have is that all GHs can’t be sold until it’s corrected. Me personally, I rarely trust a car dealer since it is owned by a private party. Generally that private party loves to bend the truth. All I can say is I am stuck in this vehicle with my family and we are guinea pigs. Absolutely stinks. If you want to avoid the future issues of a new generation vehicle, walk away. They will be making these for the foreseeable future so I wouldn’t worry about missing out on one. And you possibly may get a better deal later on once Toyota gets their act together.

I live in NC and Toyota is building or has built several battery factories in NC, several people at the company i work for have left and went there for more $$$$. I am wondering now with 100,000 + recalls that will certainly affect their bottom line==$$$$$ profit. I will keep my 2023 RAM Warlock with the 3.6, that enough power for what i need. I am waiting to see how the 2025 RAM twin turbo straight 6's will have issues or now??? Lots of people miss the HEMI, i got mine off the lot so i took what they had with almost 10 grand off and its paid for too!
Great question I have no clue. It looks like all of these car manufacturers are being hard-pressed by the new environmental laws in order to get carbon tax credits. Hence the the smaller engines more turbos and these hybrid set ups. The issue is they had to fast in order to receive subsidies from the government. Therefore, I believe a lot of the engineering was rushed. So that’s probably why we’re seeing somany issues especially with the tundra now.

This specific dealership supposedly wouldn’t budge on the addendum…. The other dealership I went to would take it off. So it’s hit or miss. Best thing is to just walk away with that BS…

Toyota established there was an issue, did their investigation, found the root cause, voluntarily issued a recall, said they would give details moving forward next month. Very few engines actually have this issue.
Unfortunately, they did not establish that there was an issue in a timely manner and it left a lot of people stranded with horrific customer service stories. The next thing to boot is when these trucks get an official fix. It will take forever for a to get corrected because there are only so many master diagnostic technicians out at dealers that can do this so consumer will wait a very long time trying to get their truck service correctly, and God knows what kind of damage will happen when they have to pull the whole Body away from the frame to access to go ahead and fix if they’re putting a block or short block or whatever the fix is…

I think manufacturers are using cheap substandard materials. Soft steel bad heat treated. Many engine parts made of plastic

@@SoarAndMore I bought a 2024 GMC 3500 AT4 and the Tundra at the same time. The tundra has crappy truck numbers so I use the tundra as a daily driver and my towing truck duties is done by the GMC. I had a 2022 GMC and towed 12,000 miles across the country and have loaded it with over 3000lbs of payload during a basement finish. It literally never gave me a lick of problems

Does Toyota even have enough "skilled" ASE certified Toyota techs with the much needed skills to fix thousands and thousands of bad engines. I say no. A lot of times folks have to return to dealers for a re-repair , even on minor stuff. There is only one solution for Toyota, buy them back.
There is no way they have enough… these recalls are going to take forever… it’s terrible.

The sale are high because it is the best thing out there. No matter what is wrong with it, Toyota is going to fix it like they have done for ever new generation they come out with. I pray to God my Tundra is affected. Because I know I am going to get a new engine and an extended warranty like previous volunteer recalls. This same engine is in the most expensive Lexus models. You think there are going to let those $100k vehicle just brake down? When Toyota release a new engine, it is 10 years min before it is replace. And when it is replaced, everyone is loving it and is scared to death of its replacement. This is no different. Get a spine!!!

I’m praying that Toyota gets their head out of a crevice that I can’t really say explicitly on a comment. I really want to get a tundra. I’m just gonna have to probably wait a while. Unless if Toyota continues to decline, I’m gonna have to search for another vehicle that may be reliable.

Doesn’t matter 50,000 or not you still run a chance of spending over $85,000 on a brand new truck and having a very high probability of it having a very bad issue. Toyota was kicking this recall down the road for over two years. I don’t consider it to be a voluntary recall when you have people screaming on forums and going to the consumer service bureaus talking about how they have been wronged. I don’t think it’s a really overlooked problem with Toyota as a whole. Boeing is having the same issue. It all stems from very poor leadership. I’m about to post a video of the Tacoma and how I am not a Toyota hater. My family has owned over 6 Toyota vehicles over the years and this is just very very disappointing.
