    Nice video. I got a few thoughts about it.
    1) your speedometer is going to be off with the taller tires. So you were definitely going faster than indicated.
    2) one of these days I’ll get you trained about these transmissions 😂, but your top gear ratio is exactly the same as the Fords 10 speed. Both are 0.63:1. So the sole reason you had a higher rpm is because you have 3.73 gears compared to the Fords 3.31 (and you were technically traveling at a faster speed due to the taller tires). Had the ford had a 3.73 gear it would have been turning the same rpm’s as your truck. The only thing the 10 speed offers as an advantage is having a wider gear ratio spread as compared to a 6 speed so it will keep the motor more in its power range. This probably will hurt fuel mileage though. And truthfully it’s not that big of an advantage over a 6 speed because they already had/have a decent gear ratio spread.

      A 6 speed isn't doing 500 rpm downshifts to keep it in that sweet spot of the power range. I agree with you in that the 6 is fine as it is, but let's not act like the 10 isn't an outright improvement over that. I've been in a sloppy 10 speed and two sloppy 6 speed/Aisins. The 10 speed was corrected with a transmission relearn, but as far as I'm aware that's just how the Aisin transmission is that Dodge farms out- super industrial, doesn't feel great.

    With the high volume diesel pumps I've noticed if I hold the nozzle to where its in line with the filler neck it'll work, but if its at an angle it'll splash back and shut off. Another good thing about those pumps is they don't shut off at $100 or something stupid like a lot of regular gas stations

    I'd like to see 331 vs 355. Hopefully you can get the redo video out soon! When my ram goes into regen, I'm shocked at the mpg. You're going to be a significant factor in determining if I order a 23 Superduty or 23 Ram 👍🏾! I love my 21 ram 3500 HO but more gears to be in the sweet spot while pulling the grades in the mountains and to be able to run a higher axles ratio would be nice.

    I appreciate the video bro. There’s a lot of variables that come into play on these short tests. Like you already said the regen mode is definitely going to hurt. And even if you are only one quarter of a gallon off when you fill the tanks on such a short run it’s going to skew the numbers also. It takes me several tries to top off my tank, diesel seems to get really foamy especially on a warm day.🇺🇸💪

    I believe the difference in RPM in top gear is the difference between a 3.31 on the Ford and 3.73 on the Ram for the gearing. I believe the final drive ratio for both 6th in the Ram and 10th gear in the Ford is .63:1. You really need to get a Banks I-Dash to monitor how close you are to a regen and monitor other emissions components

      i do not believe the f350 with 20" wheels came with the 3.31, only the trucks on 17" wheels stock have the 3.31.. i have a 2020 f250 on 17" wheels. i believe the 20" wheels would be 3.55 typical but the option for 3.71 and 4.30 is also available and more common with the 350.
      its not likely a 350 came with 3.31 on 20" wheels.

  • @jameseroh6544
    @jameseroh6544 Před 2 lety

    Your videos that dealt with the numbers for trailer weight and tow capacity were fantastic! I had my wife watch them all! Your mathmatical approach to comparing the mpg on these vehicles. NEEDS a lot of tutoring. The difference between a 3,73 ratio and a 3,31 ratio is significant! Since your tires are not the stock diameter, your odometer and speedometer are not correct. If you had used the gps app to measure the trip, you would have been okay.
    And fuel economy is not to be found at speeds above 60mph. Do the same test at a gps corrected speed of 60mph. I have lifted trucks at my house. Leveling a truck is for mall crawlers.

    Any advice you have is appreciated, love your videos. I am about to buy our first Fifth Wheel, in fact first travel trailer. I drove the Ford F250 and also the Ram 2500. When I drove the Fords (several of them) new and preowned F250-F450. They all feel tuned compared to the Ram and Chevy, I think they are quicker because they give you more power at slow speeds and the Ram/Chevy holds power back from a stop. They do have 200 foot pounds of torque more the high output F250 for the 2023 will have 400 foot pounds of torque more!! 1,200 foot pounds of torque!!! WOW!
    We are about to put in our order for a Brinkley model Z. I’d prefer the F250 but it looks like payload wise I will max out with that 14,000 pound trailer, if I could put some airbags back there. I prefer the F250 over a F350 but really prefer the Ram air ride to keep the truck and trailer level and the Ram interior is nicer and the Mega Cab means more comfort for my 20 son and 22 year old daughter “when they come”. I’ll be trading in a 2020 Ford Raptor that I will miss but that truck barely pulls a bicycle much less a 5th wheel. 😂😂😢😢😢😢
    Any tips are welcome!

      @@JB_WhoWork There's a hot shot driver in my neighborhood that just traded his HO 3500 for a HD 5500 with the 4:88 gears and 19.5 inch tires. The new Cummins is derated to about the same numbers as the S.O. He told me his fuel economy was the same between both trucks. So clearly if you're going with the Cummins, the H.O. has the bragging rites for numbers, but the S.O. is the winner for MPG. I also test drove a 2021 Super Duty with 3:55 gears 3 months ago. JB this MPG test proves why I cringe every time I see someone that says they get 17-20 mpg’s on 35’s or 37’s. Your number where you said you get about 16.7 with the level and 35’s is probably pretty accurate across the board. I don’t know why the keyboard warriors love to lie about fuel mileage. I’ve had both Cummins and Powerstroke, both lifted and stock. They are very close in mileage with the Cummins having a slight edge.
    I feel the 10sp is an equalizer for the Ford. Not because it drops the rpm overall, but it keeps the Ford in its power band better. Less drop off in rpm between shifts (less boost needed). The Cummins has a flatter broader torque curve down low so it doesn’t suffer as bad as with the 6sp. Although, I feel the Cummins would benefit even more from an 8 or 10sp as it would have to work even less. The more you avoid getting into the turbo will save fuel.
