  • Three metro systems in three countries in the Caucus Region. Many folks are proud of their metro systems in each of these three locations: Yerevan, Armenia - Tbilisi, Georgia - Baku, Azerbaijan and have strong feelings about the others - so here is a video that compares them...

Baku metro is the best one so far ! Modern, well developed and crowded !
Yerevan even doesn't need metro system since it's not that big city.

In Baku, there will be 31 stations connecting Purple line and green it is expected be open in 2025. Purple line will be connected yo green line as well. By 2040, the metro will have more stations to come as it was stated back in 2023. It is so overcrowded in metro. The fact the daily metro users surpass both Yerevan and tibilisi combined, as it keeps growing exponentially as well. Hope upgrades will lift the growth.

How did you take such dim photos in yerevan?? I use the metro pretty regularly, and it's very normally lit and very clean.
I used the tbilisi one too, also pretty good system. Never been to baku, but did ride on the same new trains in moscow, and they're very good trains.

As always, EXCELLENT WORK!!!!! I keep applauding your dedication to excellency while very informative and illustrative. These three systems were all built during the days of the Soviet Union, and all three share similar aesthetics principles in design and functionality. However, after each claimed independence from the USSR, these systems became also sort of an ethnographic chronicle of each social and economic changes and experiences. Tbilisi and Yerevan's metros are also very illustrative of an imperative need for careful maintenance of their systems, particularly the actual metro wagons. They all dated back to the Soviet era, which also speaks of the economic challenges confronting each for further financing any viable future expansion and the inevitable replacement of the cars, no matter how many times to refurbish them. Baku is completely another story. The entire city and its metro rail system (including commuter rails) reflect the repeated sequences of economic growth rates experienced by Azerbaijan. That would explain the expansion of its system, including several BRT routes and their feeders.
By the way, I have no specific answer to why filming is not permitted in Yerevan and Baku, but that MAYBE, it is somewhat related to the prevailing and long-termed bordering conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The filming is banned because Baku metro had terrorist attack organised by Armenia in the middle 1990s. Many people lost their lives and got injured from the attack. Since then it is banned to film any strategic places in Azerbaijan including underground. The same rules in the US embassies abroad.

@@Naos_2703 no, it is not for Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan didn't have this rule before the Armenian terrorist attack to its underground. If Armenians diid no attack Azerbaijan underground, people would enjoy taking photos of the Azerbaijani metro. The US embassy also bans taking photos in front of its embassy for the security reasons. Is this also Soviet rule?

@@user-xs8vr5yr4z Baku subway has had this rule since it started working in 1967. This rule was present in all subways of the USSR. Some have abolished this prohibition (All subways in Russia + Belarus and Ukraine) but the Baku subway still has this prohibition.
To be fair this prohibition is useless against terrorists, like the 1994 terrorist attack in the Baku subway, or the 2004, 2010 attacks in the Moscow subway all happened when this prohibition was enforced.

i think filming with cameras like DSLR or other big cameras is prohibited, filming with your smartphone for personal use is allowed
there're two reasons why they dont allow professional cameras
1 most people who film with pro cameras use the footage for "comercial use" they sell it and make profit, and the companies that operate these metro systems dont allow that
2 'terrorism' some of these underground metro systems were not used only for transporting, but also for air raid shelters, so the goverment prohibited the use of cameras inside the system, at that time in the 70s and 80s, smartphones with cameras were not invented yet, there were only cameras
here in algeria 'algiers metro' also dont allow cameras inside, but filming with a smartphone is allowed 👍
