There’s something satisfying about getting to open a case of ammo, especially surplus ammo, and I would have to say eastern bloc surplus ammo is my favorite. I love the old-school methods of packing ammo, very satisfying with the paper.

Second, 5.56 has arguably the best wounding capability of any standard ball cartridge in its size. Logistics was a convenient side effect. And Third, 5.56 is just .223 which was immensely popular on the civilian market for a very long time. (Not so much anymore because most places banned hunting use of cartridges under 30 caliber)
For anyone wondering, pinch the band with 2 Gerbers next to each other, then counter rotate them. The bands are good in tension but have very little strength against shearing force.
In my bug out bag, i have titanium scissors that will cut through a penny or barbed wire. then i also have some wire and bolt cutters that will cut thru anything even casehardened or corehardened steel.
Imagine going through all that preservation only to open the seal and start using it 3 years later. This is the kind of amp you stack deep. But regular stuff off the shelf for daily use.

7+ years as an 11C in the army, one thing I’ve mastered is how to quickly open up those stupid straps. 2 Gerbers, pinch down from opposite directions as deep as you can get them, hold tight and lift and push in opposing directions. Rips it right off 👍
1000rds is a drop in the bucket if you have more than one 9mm handgun PDW or PCC. Besides it's ball ammo, ok but not the greatest. I buy ammo boxes and then I buy different types of ammo on sale at Dunhams, Dicks sporting goods, Cabela's and the like and fill my ammo boxes that way. I get ball and hollow points.

Hi, a really nice way of cutting the metal strips is to have two adjustable wrenches and close them down all the way to the strap and put both wrenches next to each other and twist them like a pair of scissors and the strap cuts really easily.
Loved the part where he put his bare hand on the tension strap palm down and was trying to cut it. Learned about those things when I was a kid. Seen them catch someone that seemed to be at a safe distance when it popped. About a foot away and he still got a pretty good gash on his arm. Wasn't too deep but did require stitches.
I used to work in munitions factory one of my jobs was belting 50 caliber rounds...it was tedious work one tracer round every 10 one, the machine would jam up often and these rounds were pointing straight at me 😅

I used to work with those straps they're a very mild steel. If you bend it back on itself it usaually breaks in one go.
