  • After four months, was Reedsy Discovery worth the time and money to use for marketing? In this video, I give a quick breakdown of the end results of using Discovery to hopefully get the book in front of more readers.

At the end of the day, it's always a good idea to not pay for reviews. There are too many variables that can affect a good critique, especially when money is involved. Still, I am willing to pay the money simply because I don't cover topics that I haven't experienced or have used in the past.
This time, I rolled the dice and lost.

I still love the Reedsy masterclass and writing app, though.

I think the other thing is if you're paying for visibility on reedsy, and I'm honestly thinking, "I've never heard of reedsy" prior to being interested in writing books. As authors we clutch at straws. Reedsy makes a business out of that desperation. If reedsy itself is irrelevant.....well, it's not a great start. Whether your book is great or shit, youreally have only one option: keep going, keep improving, and with any luck your readers will discover you and word of mouth will spread.

That's why I'm not overly concerned about the review. It was more of a test to see how the platform worked. In my case, not very well. But that doesn't mean I'm going to give up writing. It just means that particular reviewer didn't like the book. As I said, writing a good book is subjective.
Besides, I don't necessarily view it as a complete waste of $50. At least my audience can weigh my experience should they want to try it themselves.
