Thank you. That's why people who say she was would only play Sharapova when she was at her best is a laugh. Serena took a vow that whatever was going on in her life if it Sharapova was on her end of the draw, she was gonna do everything in her power to beat her to a bloody pulp-pulimariy embolism, bad knee, pregnant, flu or whatever else. This was personal. Cheaterdopa made it personal by being an awful big mouth. She let the media hype her up.

    • @fundhund62
      @fundhund62 Před 3 měsíci

@@secrets.295That's a bit harsh. Every closely contested match will have quite a number of unforced errors, particularly if one of the Williams sisters is playing 😂 It's just their thing, blast every ball as hard as possible, and if you hit 100 unforced errors in the process, not a problem if you hit 110 winners.
In my mind, this was a classic match with many great rallies, and the tension between the players always adds that extra something.
I consider it one of the top 5 women's matches at the Australian Open.

@@fundhund62 Yes and I disagree when people say most Williams sisters were good quality matches. There are a few that was very brilliant. Like Wimbledon, US Open 2008 match, top notch quality. I would say just as good as some of the top men's matches. Most of them were just ok-ish some of them were really bad.
As far as this match is concerned. When the unforced errors were almost twice as much as the winners it wasn't a good match to me. A closely contested match vs a great match is 2 different things. That's how I viewed it.

I think the main factor is outlasting her mentally. Both players looked sluggish and trying to end points ASAP by the end of the match - it was a very hot day and a long match they played. But Serena was laser focused and took her chances when she needed to. Sharapova had several match points but you can see with her reactions after some of her misses how tight she was, she wanted it too much and didn't control herself enough. I think in this match Serena's experience and her instincts as a match player got her over the line. She knew how tense Sharapova was getting in the big moments and applied pressure big time.

she never had a game as explosive nor versatile nor agile like serenas
Serena was able to learn power players games over time and then never looked back against them
just like she did to davenport who would bash some of the balls way harder than she could.
that's what she did to Sharapova. Serena has the ability of creating supreme power even on the back foot which most girls have never been able to do . this creates more angles against shapaovas and davenports who are not known to be able to run down balls well enough
Maria has not a single shot that was better than Serena .... forehand backhand serve return agility volleys overheads
      nothing .
she could par Serena if Serena didnt go on the backfoot.. once Serena starting going on the Blackfoot and still creating power and angles, Maria never saw the light of day.
please give Serena her due .. she has been the most dominating player for over two decades now .
only Justine for a few years could beat her with a change of pace and precision.
so Justine gets her due for those few years
Serena otherwise is the goat clearly in all of history until a new girl can come beat her records.

I believe Serena can get sidetracked being Serena and forgetting she is 38, married, heavier, and Osaka, Sloan, Brady, Azenka are all younger and looking good . All have beaten her but Brady? I think she beat her in Fed Cup or something. All the mothers on tour are back to their before baby weight but Serena. The Australian will let me know how serious she is win or lose.
