Dont know if you noticed since you didnt mention it, but the swamp guy comes with lore familiar built into his loadout
Ignoring the fact that the Pony has (Hatred Orcs & Goblins), thats whats gonna make it competative in the match up!
I love all the Old World content Steve, thank you for all the work you put in for the community!
The Old World continues to be my favorite edition ❤
Killing blow over rules armorbane I think as it triggers on a 6 and ignores armor saves, so it's not that bad a trade off.
Putting the Wizarding Hat on a Troll Hag to get her a spell from another lore of magic because she can't get stupid twice : P
All i needed to know was that the troll mob was semi useable, i.e you're not taking a bunch of Ld4 Stupidity tests every turn, and now (alongside the spell i saw posted) i am 100% IN for a second army, though more as a modelling project to slowly build up.
If you don't want to take a lvl 4 magic user, I could see using the Black Orc Warboss on a Boar to stay close to your main army for LD support and putting a reg Orc Warboss on the Wyvern to go running around and killing stuff - esp if you are taking trolls.
Slight caveat on Big smarts spell, if you have failed the stupidity test and then cast the spell again, it states you take the test again so you'd get the reroll from the spell effect on that second test.
Troll Princess coming in hot to single handedly Mither and Chew her way through every Dragon Lord. I think this model is INSANELY good for it's cost.
Would be even better if she wasn’t a wizard and costed 50 pts less.
@@Tulkash01the augment spells that she has makes her fellow trolls extra resilient.
Quite hype yeah her rules are solid! Will get some MTO metal river trolls to go along with her. Even if it's just 3 for now
@@mrsnakesmrnot8499Sure, but she's a lvl 2 at max, which means she risks not being able to cast anything for 6 rounds because lvl 4 wizards have a huge advantage at dispelling her.
@@Tulkash01 Do you suggest that everyone should just take armies which have access to a level 4 caster on a dragon? Look, just because a player wants to take an army full of stupidity, it doesn't mean that he has to play stupidly: CHAFF the level 4 so that it remains outside dispel range, engage the level 4 caster in combat so it can't dispel, or sooner than later kill the level 4 which most likely is not as resilient as the troll hag. In other words, outplay the level 4 caster. Doesn't playing a game of strategy against a worthy opponent sound like fun to you? ;).
I'd say that giving a casting ability of level 4 to a giant, regenerating troll would not only be over powered, but arguably unfluffy. I mean the average troll is definitely not as intelligent or skillful as most other beings; therefore, the above average troll, which is what this special giant hag is, would not be as good at casting spells as an above average elf, like Teclis, right? Level 2 seems good enough, all things considered. Agreed? Even if you don't, I still appreciate ya cuz you're a fellow Warhammer gamer!
Im excited to see the old school multi part night goblins to be re released. Planning on buying 300 of them and building a massive army
The heads of those guys (the ~'98 ones) are legit some of the finest sculpts ever, easily the best Greenskin stuff (the rest of the models... eh maybe not). However i don't see any info about those guys coming, you got some insider info?
Where did you see that!?
Another nice use for the thinking hat is putting a character in a unit of orc or goblin archers, will mean you can always know you'll be able to get that stand and shoot option when the enemy charges rather than failing impetuous and relying on 6s to get in (granted albeit with a reroll).
So a lot of interesting things in this journal. I don't think we're straying into overpowered just yet but there are a few things I can tell GW made great to try and sell kits. Looking at you bone grinder. I'll never take it mainly because it would be stupid to transport. If I did use one, I'd just use gargant from the sons of Behemoth instead. Far less derpy of a kit and plastic and easier to transport.
Now... as for the stacking -1 hit magic items. This strikes me as something you should probably talk to your opponent about first, much like dragons. To me, if there is one offender in this book, and the O&G grand army, it's this sort of thing, especially now that you can stack the modifiers. I get you're still susceptible to shooting but if you're on a wyvern you're opponent's likely not going to drop you in 1 turn before you get stuck into it.
I personally feel -1 modifiers to dice roles shouldn't stack, except perhaps leadership (because Ld is not a stat based on a single d6). I know the dice modifier section of the rules (pg 93 for those interested) adds the 's' in modifier(s) in brackets so it specifically says they can stack so my feelings on the matter are irrelevant Rules as written. I just think GW is opening the way for oppressive character builds in the future. or worse, if other armies get similar tools and then it just becomes the duelest blades and the glittering coat or whatever it was called again.
Don't think it's busted outright yet, but the big thing to me is that just doesn't sound fun to play against. There's effectively zero chance an epic nail biting duel with -2 to hit, which I live for in old world. Don't care if I lose. I want to see my heroes be heroes.
I also think magic weapons for orcs are fine, especially for long drawn out combats. Choppas is great until those Ironbreakers don't budge. Though I understand Steve is the sort of player who would never fight such units willingly if he can avoid it.
Regardless, looks like a fun book.
The WE dragon does the -2 to hit in combat as well along with decreasing your WS and I. There’s a bunch of these effects in the game (stacking negatives on Ld becomes pretty bad with stuff like banshees, for one) and they are really powerful. Personally I expect these to be changed at some point, with the exception of Armor Bane
Black Orc characters can be ultra resilient just by buying the core list magic items. The Troll Hide Trousers are absolutely bonkers. 40 points for an item that makes sure they get to 2+AS (on boar, with a shield or with a bedazzling helm, which they can take because the trousers are a common item that costs exactly the amount needed to mix those...). You can have several 2+ AS black orcs characters and one 2+/5++/5+++ one wielding a great weapon. The new items are nice but don't automatic make for better characters in terms of protection imo.
The -2 to hit is done better by WE (on dragon in a challenge) and TK (on dragon as well) because the extra -1 to hit doesn't come from a magic item so it leaves space for more comboes.
Btw, it's pretty incredible to me dwarves, who are slow and get charged all the time, got their defensive runes GUTTED this edition yet there are items like these around (for reference: only ONE character can have a natural Armor Save of 2+ for a Master Rune costing 45 points; the ward save rune have become armor runes from talismanic, so they limit the potential for comboes; dwarves don't have any way to get regeneration; they can't use base magic items so they cannot do comboes like Bedazzling Helm and another -1 to hit item like the Rune of Parrying; the rune of stone was made into one use only and gives you a reroll for a failed armor save instead of a +1 to your armor save).
I am having fun with dwarves just in casual games, but after playing a few dozen games, I don't envy anyone trying to play them in tourneys. Maybe there will be some pleasant surprises in the arcane journal?
@@TobiasPatrick I expect a few of the runes that were cut out to be returned and slayers to become a bit better (currently they are terrible, troops and characters alike). If they go with an engineering theme perhaps we can get engineers on our warmachines again for more efficient shooting
I’m so stoked to run a horde of goblin wolf riders
Totally doing the nomadic army. Lead by a level 4 boar riding fanatic shaman (wazog ) black orc war boss on boar (that named character) and then tons of wolf riders and chariots
I got that orc shaman on boar and I have a much better idea for the chariots you need. Whats the best way to reach you?
Badlands Ogres are closer to Chaos Ogres than "a recreation of Bulls and Ironguts".
Regarding running a goblin big boss with the thinkin' cap in a goblin wolf mob with reserve move, would the added character cancel the reserve move? I'm a bit confused on how that works. Sometimes rules specify "if the majority of a unit...", but the Reserve Move rule doesn't.
I would love the answer to this too! Also, along those lines, could you still use fire and flee and feigned flight if the character doesn't have it.
Right now it works. By Raw nothing stops the unit to still doing Reserve move (while many other rules specify that you can't).
Is it intended? We will never know, until GW faq.
As for O&Gmagic wepons. I see place for Da choppiest choppa. I found out not having magical attacks can kilck your warboss hard if enemy makes unit he is fighting etheral.
I might be wrong but I think Arcane journal magic items for O&G are aviable for O&G granmd army unlike siome items in Bret and tomb kings journals.
ill be honest this sounds so silly and thematic I LOVE IT
You’re better of getting the plastic mega giant kit from AoS instead of the resin bone grinder kit. It’s cheaper, easier to build and it looks better.
I want to run grom with the nomadic tribes :)
Why did you take them all. Now I can't preorder one.....
Pneumatic Waaagh
I kept hearing it too 😂
Dude, great vids, but your audio is a little hot. Clips and distorts here and there. Easy fix. Set input level slightly lower.
unfortunately its the mic, im looking for a new one now. But thanks for the feed back, i dont check my levels enough. i rely on the audience to let me know when things are off. Audio is the hardest part, and im still learning it
Steve you're tripping the Bonegrinder is such a characterful WHFB model.
Ayyyyy
Does the book clarify the night goblins and the night goblins characters. My group ruled that champion counts as characters so they can take it because of the way its worded.
ugh no defiantly not. You need actual characters, not unit champions
You mean the character tax for night goblins? It's definitely a goblin boss (character) per unit, but they're only 35pts so not worth complaining over
@@MountainMiniatures Yeah I know but we have half the group agreeing with them. so I was hoping they made it more specific in the new book.
@MachineTeen it's pretty clear already, i don't know what they would write that those people wouldn't continue toninterpret the way they are.
How can you pay the tax with a Champion. You need to add the character first and then you unlock the NG units... a champ is a unit upgrade
@@Bog_Dog Unfortunately, I think they may be thinking that because Champs count as characters for the command group of a unit for weapon selection and challenges. But I'd need to check my book, but pretty sure it says NG Boss type and Shaman type units.
