    I still have my Voyage and I LOOOVE it! I love the smooth glass screen and the haptic feedback with page turning is so lovely. After I found out they quit making this and still have not made another kindle with the glass screen, I started babying my Voyage. I am very careful with it now… it’ll be a sad day if something happens to it! And boy is it snappy! No complaints.

    I've had a Voyage since 2017, and it's worked great ever since. For me, it's the perfect balance of being a step-up from the Paperwhite (glass screen, build quality, resolution, etc.) and not being as ludicrously expensive as the Oasis. If Amazon had continued working on this device, I very well may have bought the 2nd edition by now. Oh well.

    Honestly, I love and still have my Voyage.
    I have the latest Oasis 32 gig yards yada yada… the Kobo Sage and the Onyx Boox Note Air, but for a grab and go I still love and use the Voyage.
    It was ahead of it’s time and is an elegant reader. But what really sets it apart is the screen. The contrast and clarity is better than anything I have ever owned or seen. The blacks are a deep rich black and not the dark gray you get today. That alone makes it worth seeking out.
    Yes the hardware is dated, yes other readers have more bells and whistles. But if you want deep rich black text that is razor sharp., this still holds up.

    Still using my Kindle Voyage to this day, I've been tempted multiple times by the Oasis but there's really no downside to me sticking with the Voyage. It's snappy, the lighting is very even on mine, and if I don't want to carry my bag, it's pocketable which is a huge plus for me. I really enjoy the haptic feedback on the page turns as it feels closer to flipping a page to me than a swipe or feedback-less tap, the response is oddly reassuring. I've been looking at the Kobo reviews and comparisons on your channel for a while and despite the Kobo's more open usability with formats, the build quality of the Oasis is what's going to keep me in the Kindle family. I think ultimately what will get me to change is when the Oasis switches over to USB-C, that along with the warm lighting and waterproofing will likely be enough to win me over. For now though, happy to still be a Kindle Voyage user!

    I brought the Voyage a few weeks before it was taken off the market. When audio became available on the Oasis 3 I finally give in and brought a new kindle passing down my voyage to my Granddauther. To be honest I liked the voyage better as far as reading experience and ease of use. I think Amazon sold the Voyage short and did not really give it a chance to succeed.

    Nice design. There are times when I miss the physical buttons on my old 4th Gen Kindle and the option here is a nice compromise and thankfully, you can turn the vibration/haptics off entirely, something you couldn't do on the iPhone 7/8 etc.
    I always turn off (where possible) all vibration options on phones.
    However, I'm not a fan of the flush screen, on this, or the new Paper White models, as I much prefer an indented set up, allowing me to hold the device better, IMO.
    And fingerprints? No way, Jose. That's why I bought the Basic White.
    I really hope that the next generation of Kindles includes a model with an indented screen *and* a fingerprint free option! 😉📚

I won a auction for the Paperwhite 2018, haven't got it yet. I hope someone gets me the Paperwhite 2021 for a gift. Borrowed my son's Oasis for comparison on my Kindle and his. I have had a Kindle Voyage since 2017 or before? I love love love it. I turned off the page press on the sides as I found I was triggering page turns by accident. I ordered the early waterproof Kindle and sent it back in one week. This version did not have any clean font choices (no tails on letters) and that was a big annoyance for me. Also there were several places where I saw a warning to not get it wet - well, it is waterproof or not? I wanted to read while floating in the pool but those warnings made me fearful so with those two big negatives I returned it. The only issue now with my Voyage is that covers are no longer made for it and mine is wearing out and is in need of a refresh. Amazon needs to bring it back with new upgrades (warm light). For now (11/2023) I will keep my Voyage as its the best Kindle ever made. I just use an I-Pad waterproof pouch when I read in the pool.

Can't decide if I should invest in a new Kindle reader or get a Kindle Fire because they are so much cheaper. I kind of feel like a hostage as far as my books are concerned. The tablet is heavy for reading in bed and doesn't do that same "like a book" thing that you get from the straight ereaders. I'm clinging to my Voyage until it's unusable. I love the Voyage, but I do wear my blue-light-blocking glasses when reading (unless reading in strong sunlight). The warm light would be great if it were added. And I wish there were a way to completely turn off the lighting - even when the lighting is turned down completely, it does not turn off.

    I'm very torn between the Oasis and Voyage. Have been trying to decide for the last week or so, but most of what I've read has been an equal split for each. Which hasn't helped. Some sort of page turn buttons are essential, so these are my 2 choices. Do you find the voyage is too small compared to the oasis or is it ok to read on still?

    • @Maneetpaul
      @Maneetpaul  Před 2 lety +1

      The Voyage is s a great size, just missing a few key features, and is no longer supported by Amazon. If you're in the market for a Kindle, I'd strongly recommend one that Amazon still sells so you have some future-proofing with the software updates.

I just afraid about its battery but still got it. And i thought i made a right. I love the warmlight on Kindle Paperwhite 5 but i need a small device to bring it on the outsite. I now have a 2021 kindle and it's a great bedside kindle with it's warm light and dark mode, but I think my travel kindle will still be the voyage. I don't need warmlight except for late nights, and I think Bluetooth on a Kindle is a waste of money. If I want to use audible I'm just going to have my Bluetooth connected to my phone. Also one handed reading and page turning is so easy on the voyage. Not so much with the new paperwhite. Even still I usually read on the PW in landscape mode so I don't accidentally hit the power button. If they gave all the voyage specs to a new paperwhite with the upgraded hardware I'd be sold. ( Also I still think the contrast is punchier on the voyage )

    I bought my Voyage when they came out. I tried an Oasis, but did not like the ergonomics. When I bought the Voyage, I also bought Amazon's "Origami" cover and the Voyage has lived in the cover ever since. It adds mass, but also significant protection.
    The battery now requires more frequent charging (actually, I'm surprised that it's still alive after 8 years), but replacing the battery is (a) cheap and (b) easy.
    And yeah - I would seriously consider a "Voyage II".

  • @tivonutdc

    Voyage 6.4” x 4.5” x 0.30” 188g; new Paperwhite 6.9” x 4.9” x .32” 205g; so the Voyage also is/was smaller by 0.5"x0.4"x 0.02, that is 1/2 inch shorter almost the same less in width and just slightly thinner. It was/is small, now the new Paperwhite has a 6.8" screen rather than 6" of the Voyage, so apples to oranges, 6.6” x 4.6” x 0.3” was the 6" Paperwhite before it, so even there the dimensions were smaller, and I can attest that the Paperwhite before that one was bigger. Well when throwing it into a purse, or even trying to put it into a pocket, it is much smaller and convenient to carry with. I love the bigger screens for home but the Voyage for portability was/is great. I definitely would like a v2 but without the new OS or an ability to use a legacy home/list view and menu.

  • @Gallery90
    @Gallery90 Před 2 lety +3

    Actually, I prefer the Voyage to my Kindle Oasis (2). Smaller and thinner, it is easier to carry or pocket.
    As you explained, the features that set the Voyage apart from the Paperwhite -- for me -- are the haptic page spots (which I find more natural) and the ambient light adjustment. The rear mounted power button is also nice. The only reason I'm replacing the Voyage is the the carriers are dropping 2G and 3G and that eliminated one Kindle operating feature I have always liked. Battery life on my Oasis seems to be sagging, so it may not even be suitable as a backup unit.
    I agree with your idea of a Voyage II that would price slot between the Paperwhite and the Oasis. I'd want the original Voyage's page turn but I don't know if that makes water proofing more difficult.
    Update: I ordered a Paperwhite and compared it side-by-side with my Voyage. I returned the Paperwhite. Since I just use the Voyage as an e-reader (no audio books) I'm not looking to replace it until the telcos start shutting down 2G/3G. Then we'll see. (I also ditched my Oasis, since the supposed advantages over the Voyage are not impressive.)

  • @hellterminator

    I'm disappointed you didn't answer the question in the title, because I'd really like to know.
    Voyage was - and arguably still is - the best Kindle. I don't think you did the display justice. I haven't seen a current gen Paperwhite, so I can't compare, but back in the day, the frontlight uniformity was miles ahead of the Paperwhite.
    And one of the best (optional) features you didn't mention is the magnetic flip cover, which can also fold into a kickstand. Easy to use and _super_ durable.
    The supposedly better Oasis sucks, in my opinion. The buttons are physical, which is a plus, but they're only on one side, so you have to turn the whole thing around to switch hands. Also it's pointlessly thin on one side and bulky on the other, making it more fragile, harder to pack and less comfortable to use. And if you buy the cover for it, it includes an additional battery and makes the whole thing uniformly (way too) thick and gives it too much bulk. Overall an abject failure.

    I cannot understand why the buttons were removed! They are awesome for when you are reading in bed holding the device up above you. You need to shift your fingers to tap the screen. I once owned the Kindle Keyboard, and apart from the buttons, it also had a music player with it. I used to read, then, when I get tired, I just switch to music playing soundtracks... I foolishly sold that!!! What an idiot! Physical buttons are a must.
