- Triton routers best for table mounting.
All that's left to finish off my All-In-One woodworking workstation is to add a router table extension.
After a bit of window shopping, I decided on the Triton MOF001 dual mode precision plunge router for the router table.
In this video, I explain why.

Nice! Just bought this router and today Ill attach that to my table. Cant hardly wait. Thanks for the review
The first half of the czcams.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
I alsohave a TRA001 and I absolutely love this. I use mine for a table mount router only and have a trim router for all my other stuff. Keep up with the great videos.
Great video (as always) been after a new router to drop in my table for ages and you just helped me decide on which one to get. Just ordered my mof001 and can't wait to get it now. Love your all in one workbench build. Keep up the great work and interesting content 👌
I just bought this router a month ago and was fumbling my way through how to set the depth with the plunge winder / micro adjuster. You definitely cleared things up for me, thank you!
I enjoyed you video, nogal. I found that screw-thread on the front-chip-shield(part 90) , fits a normal vacuum-cleaner flex hose twist.
( a pool-pipe and a blower is what I prefer for outside use)
Thank again for sharing.
Nice job, I have one of these, had it many years, and love it. Great work, love your videos.
That’s the router for me! Thanks for the review
Originally they were Australian, but went into liquidation about 8 or so years ago, now owned by a British company. I’ve got 2 TRA001’s one sitting in my router table, another dedicated to my linear router sled. They’re rock solid (just like my old Hitachi TR12 which was my Dad’s) and you can’t go wrong with one.
I bought one a while ago and 90% of the time it's mounted in my router table. The two really nice things about it are the hand crank height adjustment from the top of the table (requires drilling a 1/2" hole through the table top... no big deal) and the way the collet locks when cranked to the full up position so you just need one wrench. In other words no more crouching down and fumbling around underneath the table trying to change bits with two wrenches!! One more nice feature he didn't mention... When you go to change bits the collets are designed so when you loosen them with the wrench and go an extra turn or so it pops the little tapered sleeve loose from the tapered shaft freeing up the bit. My old router I used to have to tap on the bit pretty hard to get the bit loose. My only little gripe about this router is how you have to slide a little spring loaded plastic window over to access the on/off switch. A little cumbersome...
This is the best router that I have owned and used, and I have owned a few routers over the years. It has all the features needed for most jobs and to get the best out of the machine. I got this router because I wanted one to be a table router in a Kreg top and it fitted very easily and works well.
It was so good that I bought another one to use as a plunge router. It is very smooth when starting a cut and the variable speed is easily matched to the stock. Both have had a reasonable amount of work and show no aging.
Excellent, thank you! I've just got one of these and the instructions aren't great, your video has really helped me understand all the features.
Thanks for your review. You explained this model features very well.
I got the TRA001... its an ANIMAL !! 😅😅 I love it 🤗
It went straight into the table as its VERY HEAVY and anyway I have 3 other routers.
One little problem I had was with the pin in the cross-drilled height adjuster shaft into which the winder handle fits... mine came loose & dropped out !! I fixed it but at 2mm by 12mm its rather fragile...
Thanks for the vid !!
From the Emerald Isle 👍😎☘
Got hold of one second hand. Needed a new worm gear for the micro adjustment. Easy fix, parts available for rhis still.
Excited to start using it thanks for the tops here as it didn't have a manual.
Man, holy cow your back. Cool. I want one of those routers....
Nice straight shooting review thanks
Dude.....you nailed it....again!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the easy to follow instructions! You mentioned how the free plunge is coarse. I’ve noticed that too. Do you have any advice for a smoother free plunge?
Hi. This may seem like a strange question but could you tell me the exact thickness in mm of the metal base plate of the MOF001 once the plastic sub base is removed? Great review and very informative.
Ich habe bisher alle deiner Videos gesehen sind alle echt super gemacht und erklärt worden die Triton ist echt eine super Maschine bin beim Überlegen ob ich mir nicht auch eine zulegen soll lg Walter aus Austria
Thank you very much for this explanation
This what I looking for
how much is it ?
I am in the process of planning a router table build, and I am considering one of these Tritons as opposed to a Jessum router lift for a Dewalt 618 that I already own. Now that you have been using this unit for quite some time, what are your long-term thoughts on this tool and do you have any suggestions / tips on the matter?
Great review. You’ve encouraged me to spend money which is never a good thing......Thanks for sharing.
Nice review, looking forward to seeing how you work that into your work station
Just adding the finishing touches to the plan then I can start working.
Hey, can you tell now if it is still in nice working condition after about 1,5 years of use?
I have the TRA001the bigger one to yours and i am currently working on a project to mount it in a homemade router table - i was going to make a rectangular mounting plate but after seeing how you made a round one i think this is what i am also going to do. I am a bit unsure how large to make the hold in order to made inserting and removal easy - how did you work out what size hole/router plate you needed to make
I think you could use the jigg more when drilling in the work bench? Drill the first row, use the al to locate the second row, then go back and do the same for the third. Now you can use the 2 holes on the top and the bottom, this way you eliminate the risk of measuring wrong between the rowes.
In Order to hit that adjustment fitting when mounted under the table, I glued a 1 inch piece of 3/4 inch PVC water pipe around that so the adjustment handle would easily go in.
Hi love the vids, went looking for the router in the UK but none of the routers seem to come with the under mount adjuster handle. did you purchase sperately? or did it come with your router? if separate do you have a part number . keep up the good vids
Hi there, I have been looking at these very interested but I have a question for you if you please could give me some feedback , Is the router bit dead centre to the whole circumfrance of the router base ( the one I have now actually is not, its out by around 1mm to one side) , thanks in advance
nice direct video.. thankyou
that t-shirt is awesome!!
Great review! and Awesome Channel good to see a South African doing his thing on CZcams.. Is that a freud bit and where did you buy from?
I buy most of my more specialized equipment and gear from Toolcraft. Their prices a quite good but I mostly like the fact that they stock stuff the would normally be hard to find in SA.
The shopfronts do not list the Triton - only the t shirts... But I saw the Woodmead link in another comment.
Jean, I've started on my all-in-one workbench and about to put the table saw in. I'm not a video guy. How do I send pics of mine to you. Remember I told you I was going to built a miter saw station till I saw your all-in-one....It's awesome and will give me plenty of space in my two car garage. Mostly had to do cause I can't find my stuff and the Mrs. wants her parking space back. LOL...
Haha, yeah, I can understand that. I would love to see pics of your setup. You can email me jean@woodworkjunkie.com
Jean, having trouble with my computer opening your email. Do you have an alternate?
Jean@woodworkjunkie.com or admin@woodworkjunkie.com Alternatively you can DM me through the Woodwork Junkie Facebook page.facebook.com/woodworkjunkiesite
Jean, I sent the pics via admin@woodworkjunkie.com. Let me know if you got them...
How is the base plate centered?
Hi, I like the Triton 1600W version, but it only supports 1/2 inch or 12mm bits. Is this going to be a problem later on?
My trim router supports 6mm bits, but a lot of bits are available in 8mm or 12mm. the smaller younger brother of this router supports all bit types but is not as powerful and I don't know if it has all the features like this one.
Late to the party here and it probably won’t affect it in a table mount, but did you notice that the depth stop wheels move with the vibration of the router? Haven’t been able to stop it
I love my 2.5hp triton, best router ever
Great videos. Found you channel this week. Where can it be purchased in south africa. Great build videos
Hi Paul. I bought mine from Toolcraft. They are in Cape Town but they also have an online store that delivers nationally. www.toolcraft.co.za/ I think they only have the larger (more expensive) TRA in stock but I'm sure they can source the MOF if that is what you are looking for.
Where did you buy this router? Looking at getting a router to use for a table router, I usually buy stuff at Builders Warehouse as it is the closest store here in Northern Suburbs, CPT.
BPM toolcraft. The MOF001 is currently on promotion and if you can't make it to their physical store in Plumbstead, you can order from their online store. www.toolcraft.co.za/collections/red-hot-price-promo/products/triton-router-1400w
Triton Model TRA012: A Variable-Speed 3 H.P. Plunge Router with both a 1/2" Straight Cutting Bit with a 1/2" shank, and a Homemade Circle Cutting Jig, Painted in both Rockler Blue, and Black
That can only be used by hand.
Dis 'n great router! Waar koop mens een en wat prys hulle min of meer?
Great channel hoor! Trots Suid-Afrikaans!!
After 11 months, how reliable has it been? I've read of Triton motors burning out very quickly.
BTW, the flex dragging on the table is a bore, especially for cutting circles. I use a bit of bungee cord to a hook in the ceiling to hold it up out of the way
Mine is still going strong but I haven't worked it excessively hard I will admit.
Glad to see there is some dust on the blue hat. Just didn’t feel the same
So now you have had it for a while are you still happy ?
Triton routers are fabulous. I have both the MOF and the TRA with the bigger one set in the router table. I don’t know why they are not more popular. Fully adjustable in the table with no need for a separate router lift. Genius. And the spindle lock. Fabulous. Gutsy too. Nifty fence, soft start and dust collection shroud. Brilliant. Remember to take the spring out to mount in the table as per the instructions.
I am also find them to be great and very underrated. I'm definitely taking note of the Triton products in the future.
Your link to Amazon goes to a bosch router, not the one you are showcasing. Not sure if you know this?
i like This router
Do you think this has the best plunge mechanism of all the routers?
I wouldn't be able to say for sure because I haven't personally used all the routers on the market but I can say that though it isn't the smoothest plunge (likely due to the rack and pinion mechanism) it is one of the most accurate ones I have used.
Hi nice video i am looking to buy one for a router table which i need to make. I am quite a newbie at this can i ask you a question please? i use a small router and make several passes of around 3mm ,so if i was going to a total depth of 9mm i would make 3 passes. I noticed you made one pass - can you tell me is it because the router you just used is powerful (mine is only 700w) and hence if you used a small router you would do the same?
Making multiple passes is a good habit in my opinion. I didn't do it because I was slimy testing the router and not focusing a high quality finish. On soft material I have found that a high quality bit with a standard router will perform better then a high quality router with a standard bit.
@@WoodshopJunkies thank you for the opinion....I must get use to the idea that one has to take their time for a perfect outcome :)
nice routers. I have the both models with the big one on my router table. my only gripe is the edge guide: its a piece of junk.
Met daai aksent kan mens van n myl af hoor jys n afrikaaner! 😁 jisss Jaun jou work station is masjien! Ek doen ook hout werk as n passie, wil jou graag ontmoet en jou workstation kom uit check!!
Jis maater, waar in die wereld is jy? Jy kan vir my epos jean@woodworkjunkie.com of vir my n boodskap stuur deur Woodwork Junkie se Facebook blad facebook.com/woodworkjunkiesite dan gesels ons. Groete.
I bought one for my table with a Kreg insert , I’m buying another for mobile work I’m too lazy to remove from table.
Why didn't you buy the more powerful Triton? Was the price difference simply too much or? I am told that for a router table a 1400W is the absolute minimum plus it must be able to accept half inch router bits. So I'm bleeped with my Stanley 1200W bargain with quarter inch bits for a table setup...
The price difference between the two is actually not that bad but it was enough to put the larger TRA001 just out of my budget. Also, the TRA is a bigger router and because space is starting to get very limited on my bench I decided to go with the smaller MOF.
I'm hoping I don't regret it.
The TRA001 is really meant for table use, I found it too heavy for constant hand-operated use... but its a beauty.. 😅
My orange button on the knob won't come out any ideas why.
My wife will love me twice as much when i get mine delivered :D
I loved my Triton router until inductor died, after less than 10 hours of use (but out of waranty as I am not using it every day). Switched to something else since then, may have been unlucky.
What did you switch to? Just wondering...
@@muaythaispartan91 well, disguted by spending useless money I purchased a Festool OF1010. I am entirely satisfied with it and have used it for a number of jobs already, but the price was a pain...
Really enjoyed the review. Maybe you could do the same for the other tools in your shop.
Now that it's been a while are you still happy with the Triton?
Very much yes.
So sexy....the router bro...I have a bosh 25-dont-remember-the-model, but not the money for the plunge mechanism, I wish that I've waited a little longer to have the money
Hop much did you pay for your router ?
In South Africa or on a website?
Thx
Bought it a local tool supplier on special for about R3k if I remember correctly.
Far cheaper than in france
Well was it a good purchase or not?
I am happy with it now still.
@@WoodshopJunkies ok thanks
God Dammit! I just bought a trend router with hardly any of the features this one boasts. Why is it videos pop up all over the place about routers, after you've bought one?! lol.
And due to these 'uncertain times' the store cannot accept refunds. Hey ho, well looking on the bright side, at least now I have a project to pimp my router :D
You built in dust collection but never use it?
When I record the videos the hose sometimes gets in the way so I don't always use it when recording. When I'm just working I use it. I am looking at making an aerial camera mount rig which will allow me more freedom in the shop when recording.
Where do you get triton tools from in South Africa?
I got this one from BPM Toolcraft
OK kwl thx, and how do you get so many subscribers?
@@julianmason9568 haha, well that's the million dollar question. I geuss people like my videos.
If I could ask so kindly that you do a shout out to a fellow South African woodworker, you tuber?
@@julianmason9568 is it you?
Send to Indonesia
at least, you can say 'please' hahah
Hi there,
I got the TRA001 not even a month ago. I'm having issues like screws coming loose, brake lever falling off every 20cm, fine depth dial coming off. Everything is literally falling apart. Then when doing small increments, it works fine, but when doing a T-slot, the router collet gives away and the bit jumps out no matter how hard I tighten it. I used to have a KINZO (C-brand) router and it did everything FINE but slow, even T-tracks and it's only 1200W. The Triton being 2400W, isn't much faster and struggles WAY TOO MUCH for having double the power. Anyone else here having similar issues? Thank you
I watched this video before buying it :-) very informative, thank you
This Router is made in my country:)
He’s paid to say it
I had the TRA001 and all was good until after 14 months the power switch cover stuck closed right in the middle of a job! To complete the job i had to mash and cut it back to turn it back on. For me this display of poor quality was a deal breaker and i would not buy this brand again. Now replaced it with a solid and reliable Makita.
That's a lot of PPE! I normally just have a ciggy hanging out me mouth
Why are you wearing gloves?
In this video? Mostly out of habit.
great router until it breaks on you
I agree with this, I was thinking this is the cheaper way until it breaks and is out of warranty. For $100 more I have Jessem Router lift with a good Bosch Router.
I also got a triton because of this video ... got it at a deal at cash crusaders R1100 🤗🤗
