- How to make a router table. In this DIY woodworking project, I make the router cabinet with a router table top and organization drawers for router bits, router table accessories and more! This router table is great for tool organization. I built this router cabinet to be mobile so it can easily roll around in the shop. Another great build and video. I really appreciate that you shared at the end things you might do differently once you were finished. I know when I complete a project I always have a few and I feel like those can be some of the most valuable things to share. Keep up the great work, it’s inspiring. 👍
Thanks! I for one prefer a flush back to cabinets so they sit against the wall better. The walnut contrast worked well. Your puppy is adorable
Which router is it?
Almost done with the router table. A lot of fun.
Bubba from Rick and Bubba says “ the 80s is the greatest decade mankinds everseen bc it gave us -Reagan , hairspray , and the best and worst music ever.” I will be building my table just like yours. Looking forward to getting the plans. :) God bless
thank you
Listen to Rick and Bubba every day! Love it!!!!!!
@@danielcason802 me too , every single day.
Who is Rick & Bubba?
Music was better, too. 70s and 80s...no corporate crap!
Who else is glad that he also shows his mistakes? Lol he actually feels like a common man, who occasionally has a mistake. Makes me feel not so bad when I screw a thing or two up when woodworking.
Learning by doing.... There is no other way.
Thanks for your honesty about fear preventing you from starting your project. As a complete woodworking novice, I can relate. With each project though I am getting more comfortable with the tools I inherited from my father in law after his passing. My router table isn’t nearly as complex or nice as your finished project but it works for my needs, and I love that satisfaction that comes from building it yourself. Without CZcams U, I wouldn’t know where to start. Much appreciation for taking the time to post your instructive videos.
I will be building this when I'm not working everyday. I love your faith based shirts.
I love all your videos but money and fear is what keeps me from going full force. Plus I work full time with kids so time is divided all over other places. I appreciate your time
It looks great. Thank goodness you removed the "80s look." Love how you show everything and even discuss how fear held you back. Thank you for continuing to teach and inspire.
I really like that look. Natural finish never goes out of style, like classic men's suits.
I LOATHE white washed oak, etc. Trendy ain't cool!
This is one of the coolest DIY Router tables on CZcams. I've seen a bigger one, but it was for a different shop, the builder specifically wanted it to be 42" or 44" so as to do double duty as an extension of the Miter Saw table area.
That Amber makes it look like a desk from Jr. High Wood Shop.! That's why you subconsciously don't like it.😎
Thanks Matt, always love your videos mate. Best wishes from Australia 🙏👍
Awesome 😊. Put a 731 logo on the front cabinet and it would look “slick as OWL snot” !!!
The casual "although I would live to regret this" really cracked me up. You made the right call. Love the way it looks after you sanded it down. Fantastic build.
Digging that push stick. Might have to steal I mean be inspired to make one myself.
I installed a simple pulley system in my ceiling above my work table as a helping hand for setting projects on the floor without any aggravation or injury to my body/back. Works like a champ ... mechanical advantage.
Awesome idea!!! I'll have to try this when I assemble a kitchen full of IKEA cabinets this summer. Some of them will be very heavy.
Lol!!! I hate when it comes tumbling down! Awesome build Matt. Thank you for the content!!
Thank you
The difference between a beginner and a master is how well they cover up mistakes! I think the table top looks fine. If you hadn't pointed it out I would have thought you did it that way on purpose.
Edit: love the walnut trim. Looks great!
Thank you
Everyone, even pros, make mistakes. Until we can have Mr. Robot standing over our shoulder to advise us...
@@scottslotterbeck3796 Ever have someone standing over your shoulder while you are trying to make something? XD
With your minor error, you gave your work character. Not a mistake. Also we are allowed to make mistakes one at a time.
Great work I love the router table. 👍👍👍👍👍
Great point!
Solid build Matt! Thank you for all the encouragement you give in every video. Keep up the great work!
Matt. Three words. Bessey Corner Clamps. Game changer for building boxes like this cabinet. God bless you. Another great video.
thank you
Thanks for sharing have a blessed day in the name and Jesus
Thank you! You too!
Ty Matt for answering my question , just watched the video on the reason for Easter. My God bless you and your family. Mark
Brother, (brother in Christ.) It's nothing new. A good woodworking... It's not that we don't make mistakes. It's how we overcome those mistakes.. So well done brother.. keep up the awesome videos.
Favorite build so far! Definitely going to be building this in the near future. Thank you!
Looks amazing! What a great build. Thank you.
That’s nice 731 ,all woodworkers make mistakes and I’ve made my fair share. I’ll buy those plans.
I like it flush with no over hang.
Impressive job. The finished table looks good and seriously functional.
MAN OH MAN OH MAN I sure do wish Tay Tools would get that Framing Square Fence back in stock, I need 3 of them.
Built fully out of 3/4" material, even the drawers and faces. That thing is STOUT! Well done sir.
hey man recently subscribed to your channel, and I really liked your talking about faith in between your work, I am a refugee from the middle east and I came to Christ couple years ago, so happy to see people like you hard-working, such an encouraging, and you made me buy a bunch of woodworking tools even though I am a car guy, but I am having a hard time with measurements, I think because of the nature of my job I've never needed to measure something and now when I cut down my wood can put them together they are not square or they are not the right size, but NY WAY JUST I WANNA SAY THANKS BODY FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND TEACHING
Thank you
Great build Matt. I have my router mounted on the side of my table saw but either way, still learned something about cabinet building from this. Been watching you a few months now brother and like you said, fear is a big challenge to get over. So I'm facing it and rebooting my channel. Thank you for the inspiration and courage to get back out there.
Nice job nice to see you overcame the mishap’s but in all 👍
I like the 4 drawers rather than one big one on the bottom. Great job and I just may finally build one for my shop.
Excellent build, thanks for sharing.
I know you've gotten a gazillion comments on what to do to keep your pieces together for a moment while you walk away to get something, or reposition yourself for a better grip or better angle of attack. If you quickset a couple of screws, not tight even just the 1st thread or 2. But, thanks for illustrating how things don't or sometimes wont go right, especially if you're in a hurry, cause is your side hustle and you ain't do'n it full time yet. Love y'all's videos and the encouragement. So many of us need it, some people go without any.
Great looking cabinet! Another great video!! The shop is growing!!! Woop! Woop!
Man as someone just getting into this trade, this build is amazing I love it
I love the idea. eventually I'll upgrade from my cheap benchtop table to something like this!
Good call on sanding down the amber! Great project.
Thanks 👍
This is my favorite router-table build. It really ticks-all-of-the-boxes and includes everything that I want to have in mine. Thanks for sharing and great videos! 👍
Great build and something I may consider building myself.
Great table, Matt and a great idea sell the trays.
Great addition to the shop. I need to build one of these. I've only heard one other person use the "slick as owl snot" phrase before. My buddy Mark who was from Arkansas used to say that all of the time.
Looks great, and I agree it was a little too much amber.
Very generous to share this. Thank you so much.
I'm a beginner with tight space and I need everything to roll and this is by far the best router table setup I've come across after dozens of videos.
That is awesome Matt I can appreciate how much work goes into this not only are you building but your filming. My old boss use to say it's OK to make mistakes as long as you learn from it and can fix it otherwise it's a wasted mistake. I would never know you cut that short looking at the final product.
Fantastic job 😁👍
Great video. It's nice to hear a pro talking about fear of getting started. Gives me a bit more confidence knowing it happens to everyone.
Awesome build Matt ,I just finished mine using your plans. I can't say enough about it. Now I'm finally organized and have an awesome table.thank you
Remember, Matt. We only have "happy accidents". LOL I think I would prefer the back side did NOT have the overhang so it would go flush against the wall. I liked your "Happy accident, really.
I love your videos and I love the shirts you wear. Keep preaching the gospel and let the lower lights be burning. GOD bless.
Very good. I great example of why CZcams is such a good place to gain skills and knowledge.
I appreciate that!
That was ... exciting Matt. Thank you.
Hey Brother, not sure if you read these or not but I am a beginner woodworker who subscribes to several channels like yours but yours is my favorite hands down bc you first give God the glory and second you give detailed instructions. As a beginner that I'd everything. I appreciate all you do my brother. 👍🙌💪👏
Thankyou for keeping your "big dummy" moments in your videos. Makes me feel better about mine.
Thankyou also for admitting that you feared building that table, fear keeps me from eventually being a better me as well, but I'm constantly working on it. It really helps when I see an accomplished, woodworker/youtuber/Maker like you, admit that you STILL have it.
Love the content, please keep them coming and God bless you and yours. Can't wait to build this table!
Ps. Love that you build in a small space too. I too work in a small shop. I have about half the space you do and have to take most of my tools outside to cut and sand to keep shop/laundry room, pantry free from dust. It's sometimes frustrating, but doable.
This is awesome and great timing. I really need to build this.
That is a Level 100 router table. Beautiful! Now I just need to get started on mine! I think I'll go with the hidden hinges on the front doors though.
Trooper Matt, these plans are brilliant. This router table is beautiful. I’m going to build it. Thank you so very much‼️✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Very welcome!
@@731Woodworks on top of that your deal on the Milwaukee portal sander. He’s going under my July and Christmas tree. Thank you.‼️✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Nice job Matt! The 'design change' on the back trim looks great, we all have design changes in our projects. I'm addressing one of my fears this weekend. I have my first end grain cutting board in clamps! I was going to hold off making one until I got a drum sander (excuse to buy a new tool???) but decided to give it a try. God bless you my brother.
Sick router table !! Going to attempt this build this summer.
Have fun!
When I grow up, I wanna be like Matt 🤜🏼🤛🏻
Great Job, im getting my skills almost there to try this, l need too. and love you showing mistakes because everyone makes them, its overcoming them that is key. i like the back of the cabinet flush like that. you can fit it right to the wall and nothing behind it. great job Matt
Love this build!
I love it! It's exactly what I've been wanting and needing. Thanks! I go to Work the Grain, also. It's a great place!
Great build!! Personally I think your "mistake" makes it better because the whole thing can now go flush against a wall. Even if it is just an inch, it saves space!
Awesome Routing Table Cabinet. Two thumbs way Up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude!!! You are amazing. Love it!! Wish i could do it as smoothly as you!! Nicely done.
I have watched this particular video several times and every time I do I see something I missed or failed to note before. I will be purchasing the collection on your site that has this as well as other projects that are of interest to me. This time I made a note of when staining or using shellac that before using a product to use it on a scrap piece to make sure the color is what I am looking for in my projects. Thanks for the awesome content Matt and Amy.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate your build and top videos Matt. Helps me with ideas, improve my plans, and save me some heartache. 😉 Hopefully!
Thank you
I'm going to be building your out feed table and this router table this spring. I wasn't going to build them at first cuz I was nervous and didn't think I could do it. This video makes me feel like I can do it though!
Great job! I’m in Arkansas as well up in Jonesboro! I am a worker as well. I love it! Love your shirts and how you add God to your work.
Beautiful job good man
This is one of the best router table builds I’ve seen good job it was very clear concise and simple
Thank you
Just watched this yet again. I think this is one of your better builds. I agree with fear getting the best of me when it comes to taking on some of these woodworking projects. I just finished a new platform bed with storage for my daughter that I was totally apprehensive about starting. Its not perfect but it looks great and I learned a TON along the way.
thank you
Hi Matt, thanks so much for posting this, I've been looking forward to it since you posted the preview last week as I'm about to make something similar myself. I really appreciate you leaving in your error as I experienced exactly the same thing on a different project today (I was much less restrained with my language than you were and called it a day at that point!). It's reassuring to know that mistakes like that happen to everyone. I've also noticed you mention the fear of failure in woodowrk a few times and it's something that I suffer from massively so I really appreciate the encouragement and the honesty from your channel.
Incidentally, I have a similar router plate (the basic Kreg one) and they recommend placing the plate on the table top and adding some offcuts to frame the outside of the plate, then removing and using the frame and a template bit to cut a precise outline of the router plate.
Thanks for the great content.
Love the walnut face. Awsome build brother!
Beautiful work, man. I like the back trim being flush. You could have routed the cabling out the side somehow and it would sit against the wall when not in use, maybe.
That router table looks awesome you do some great work you make it look so easy also
I built my 8 year ago from Norm Abram show, the new yankee work shop. Nice job on yours.
Thank you
That looks awesome (and I thought the yellow looked good but I was in my 20's in the 1980's, so what do I know). I have a suggestion. I am planning on rebuilding my router table that I built several years ago. I put a 4 inch dust collection port behind my router. If I rebuild it, I will put the pipe directly under the router and route it to the back of the cabinet. While my dust collector does a great job of sucking the chips into the box, a large amount of chips pile up under the router and I have to clean it out frequently.
@Darin Hamilton You might take a look at your airflow. If that compartment is too airtight, it won't have enough airflow for the dust collection and you'll end up with chip accumulation in certain spots. To test that, prop open the front door with a small block of wood and route a test piece. If the dust collection improves, then airflow is your problem and you'll need to put some air intake holes into that compartment to allow for greater airflow. Just take a 1/2" forstner bit and drill 6-8 holes in the back and that will work without them being visible.
@@davidkendrick3158 I drilled some holes in the bottom of the front door, figuring that the air flow from front to back would help, but it didn't. I always thought about making the hole larger to increase the flow . I also thought of some other solutions but never got around to it. It isn't a big problem but if I built it again, I would put the pipe directly under the router.
Wow! I'm impressed with all of the valuable tips, tricks, and useful tools packed in one video
Glad it was helpful!
Really nice job! Congrats!
This came out really good! I was searching for tips on inserting the router lift and got some ideas I haven't seen from other videos. (radius of the forsner bit for one) Wish you would get back to build videos.
Almost done building this.
Been looking forward to this build Matt! Great job as always, turned out beautiful! God bless you and your family keep up the amazing work
Thank you
Built a table already. I am reconsidering my basic design and going with yours. Nice video.
Thank you Sir
thank you
Another great build!!
I really recommend the right angle pocket hole clamps. Makes assembling cabinets a breeze.
thanks
great job. and great video. thank you
Awesome table!!👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Dude, this is probably the best router table build on CZcams. Seriously awesome. Gonna buy these plans soon!
Love your work, very professional. You have my subscription. Cheers
Look's great Matt.
Welcome to the big dummy club. We are always looking for new members.
I think I'm president of the club lol
Just bought the plans, looking forward to this project.
👊🏻👏👏
Solid Build my guy!
Thank you sir! 👊
Very nice router table... well done... God Bless...
Thanks a lot
Nice build! I built the "New Yankee" version years ago. I put laminate on my router table top. My desk I built I out of laminated mdf. I couldn't find any laminate for it at the time so It was coated with shellac, sanded and then spray painted black from a can, then finished with spray urethane. It come out perfect. I was surprised at how well and evenly coated the paint turned out. After 15+ years the desk top is holding up very well.
Hi there my brother do you have a video or pictures of your desktop? The description sounds really interesting and I would like to see it.
Have a blessed week my friend
@@lobbi5000 I'll look and see if I can find the pics. I didn't take a video. I would take new ones but my desk is currently a mess lol. I take my work home alot The top was trimmed out with some 1/2" thick white oak similar to Matts router table. I didn't trim the back.
This is so AWESOME!!!! Very Nice Router table i've ever seen! Way more to go Sir Matt! Congratulations! More power! GodBless!
Thank you Ryan! I appreciate that
Wow I have seen the pictures of the table line but gosh dang it is absolutely amazing. Wonderful job sir!
Thank you
Great build Matt. Incidentally those rare earth magnets are available with center mounting holes. No need for glue.
