@sayan mukherjee Yeah you need some luck i guess. I have to say its on a custom loop and i delidded it too. I mean, you are lucky when your 9900k goes 5ghz all core, its rare to see a 9900k going up to 5.1ghz without overheating in normal cases. I mean, silicon lottery sells 5.1ghz 9900k's for almost $1000, its insane.

Out of the box, Vega 64 is pants. Tune it in Radeon settings for the core clocks and HBM2 memory with overclocking AND undervolting as this helps alleviate thermal throttling, improving efficiency and helps push through much better performance. I get a solid 60fps at ultra/high mix of settings at 1440p with AA in every modern game I've thrown at it, and easily 144+ fps for those less graphically demanding titles.
Yeah the power draw is a big negative, so you do need a beefier PSU to handle it. If you are looking to get one, I'd recommend the Sapphire Nitro+ model if you can find it.
Oh and you can mod them to fit a custom water block for liquid cooling from EK, which really boosts performance by providing better cooling.
You can also flash the Vega 64 BIOS onto a Vega 56 card to increase the performance headroom.
Vega is great for tinkering and fiddling, but overclocking and undervolting to a good sweetspot is a labour of love and not as straight forward as just using MSI afterburner. Put the time in to tame these beasts and they'll reward you, but if you want something more efficient and less dependent on tinkering with mV, go with a Navi-based card.

Yeah, mine runs on 2GHz and 1130 mV (Eiswolf 240 AiO in a loop with a Eisbaer 140 AiO from Alphacool) . 30mV higher than stock but 200 MHz (~11 % faster) with HBM2 from 1000 MHz oced to 1150 MHz (PT+20). Temps around 48°C / 90°C Junction. Will eventually try to go higher... Consumes ~280 W of GPU power under full load.
When using a 60 fps cap at 4k and some games will hit about 80 fps and more it will only consume around 150W. But it doesn't matter anyway I'm only playing like 1h average a day. Getting tired after work...
Even if I would play 3h a day it would cost me 100€ more over 2 years when compared to a 150W GPU. Of course the initial purchasing costs were higher than a 150W GPU.
Now, I'm not regretting the decision because the card will be for sure futureproof and I will be able to use Ultra textures for many years from now... I don't need Ultra settings. Most important to me is that the Image is crystal clear and sharp.

It just doesn't make sense to me to give ~ 50 mV and more to the GPU for each 50 MHz clock increase. So a 100 MHz increase from 2 GHz would run at ~ 350W+ what would be a little too high for me for 24/7 usage... My Temps are not the best for a liquid cooled setup. Also, I don't think it has to do with silicon quality, probably faulty PCB design, looks like gigabyte was trying to push these Vegas too far. On that note, Vegas use HBM2 and are quite different from the regular DDR/GDDR PCB designs, maybe that also adds up to the issues... @@Black-ny7gv when i just got the card, brand new (like 3 days after it's launch, rx480 8gb btw) first demanding game i used it for was the witcher 3
card was at 88 degree all the time, at 1680x1050 and high details with lowered grass i had about 80fps, which is fine, but these temps were terrifying
the g1 software was like the worst ever, it had almost no options, i could've only set mode to performance or quiet, but then, whenever it was running, the card would randomly go to 100% fan speed, no matter the load or temps, and it wouldn't go down until pc restart, not to mention its option to change rgb on the card was basically dead
what i've discovered after, was that no matter what, fans wouldn't go higher than i believe 70%, so i uninstalled that insult to humanity called g1 gaming software, and installed proper msi afterburner, only to find out that fans when at 100% keep the card in 80 degree in aforementioned witcher with same settings, so 8 degree lower, but GOD WAS IT LOUD, i was forcing myself to play on these setting for the sake of the card, but even i had enough after 2 weeks
then it wasn't that bad, i settled down on overwatch, so my card was mostly fine, another problem appeared when i got 144hz 1080p monitor, it was BAAAAD
it had freesync, and even trough that this, card was stuttering like hell, i am sure i've been loosing like 20% off all frames, and the card was hot again, and because it was overheating and shutting down, i had to play with 100% fans again (i was passionate about OV at the time, so i played it a lot back then)
then far cry 5 came out, and this is where the bullshit have peaked - card was shutting down after 5 minutes of gameplay, 1080p minimal details, 100% fan speed from beginning
then i got used (not after mining) MSI 1080 somewhere around rtx launch, so it was fairly cheap, quiet, blazing fast, no problems, loved it, have it till today
so, because of that one thing, i will never again buy any gigabyte/aorus product, and most likely any radeon as well
EDIT: one of the other comments reminded me of one thing, "try undervolting"
so i tried, 0.01V lower at 100% usage in wattman or whatever it's called, and card would crash everytime, so no, undervolting wasn't the solution

Vega cards are great if you tweak them. The stock voltage settings are usually set at 1.2 volts for P7 which just creates excess heat and power draw. Out of the box settings on Vega are just really bad. A quick undervolt to 1000-1100mV is enough to drop power consumption around 100 watts. Max the power limit to +50% and set the HBM to 1050 and you've got about a 15% performance increase. Extra clockspeed doesn't really help all that much. Vega gets most of it's benefits from memory overclocking. Once you start pushing past 1600MHz Vega wants more juice and that's where the exponentially higher power draw kicks in. A custom Wattman profile for these can do wonders for power draw and noise especially for the blower models. The best variants to look out for (provided the price is good) are the Sapphire Nitro+ or Powercolor Red Devil. The liquid cards have the XTX dies which are the best silicon but are pretty hard to find.

You made this video 2 weeks after I bough a 64 hahaha, it cost 200$, so I didn't have any complain, did you undervolt it and put the power limit to +50? It gains a LOT of performance this way, RE2 Remake in 4K comes from 44 fps ultra to 58 fps ultra with this, man, it is a HUGE performance boost!

Seems the gigabyte is one of the worst. But their XT is actually one of the best.
Must have learnt from their mistakes.

I just bought all the parts for a PC and it's almost identical to what these specs are. However I only heard about flash BIOS voiding warranty after I'd already bought the card (I'd heard rumours about the Gigabyte version but it was going brand new for £280 so I went for it knowing there was a huge community that update to F2 BIOS and undervolt it). Any owners of this card who could give me advice on how to get started (my PSU is 750W btw) because I'm building the PC in a couple of days and now I'm worried it will just be buggy and awful like many reviewers (mainly old ones) say.

Last black Friday (2018) I bought two Asus Radeon RX VEGA 64 8 GB ROG STRIX for $499 each. Been running them in crossfire with no issues. Vega 64 is a worthy buy when on sale.

AIB cards are the ones to get for Vega GPUs.
I have a Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64 that when overclocked and undervolted uses 180-190W without being pushed hard. To get the same performance out of a Vega 56 you'll need to use a lot more power and possibly flash it with a higher power limit BIOS.
At 1440P, paired with a high refresh rate Freesync monitor it is one of the most cost effective options out there for the perfomance on offer.

Amazing review, thank you. Was really umming and ahhing about the 56 vs 64 in preparing to get a VR set, I was verging on the 64 but I think you've dragged me back to reality with the 56.

Bought my msi vega 64 air cooled oc blower card (same style as the 56 in vid) around 3 months ago, brand new for £250. Used afterburner & undervolted it -125 and power limit up to +50% but left the factory oc at 1625, after a custom fan curve the card runs on a 1440p bench mark at 62 degrees with the fans only spooling at 2600-700rpm with it hitting its target speed 95% of the time, well impressed with it and with results like that I'll be keeping it for a while until it cant keep up with the tech race

"this is one of the better cards in the Vega 64 lineup" Why would you do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies? The Gigashyte AIB card is known to be worse than reference and has horrendous failure rates. You would know that if you did even 5 minutes of research.
