Almost felt like he started to burst into tears, he’s so sorry for Wout.
Class act
He’s clearly more concerned about WVA than the stage win. Class act.
Unlike Jorgenson, might I add… Which, ok, he’s new, he’s youbg, he won, bla bla bla, but still.
@@MEB939huh? Shut up
Hes obviously gonna be happy its one of his biggest wins@@MEB939
@@MEB939 is Jorgenson supposed to just stop racing? I mean, he, the other riders and their team put in massive efforts this year to prepare for the classics. They get paid to race and win, to which he did.
@@Mugochap I never said he was wrong to keep racing or go for the win, the point was about the primary concern shown afterwards. Benoot was visibly distraught (and distracted), Jorgenson scraped together a “thoughts and prayers”. The lack of (visibile) concern was the issue, not the win at all
Hurt for him, a stand-up guy to detail what happened and to suspect that his shift to standing caused his line or pace to catch Wout off-guard. Thanks for the interview clip, Gregor.
Hearing Wout cry when he was being treated was the saddest thing I experienced in a long time. It broke me
That was Michele Gazzoli you hear.
@@FloBikes you need to rewatch the tapes, Wout was crying sitting next to the stretcher.
@@FloBikesWout was also crying
Tiesj is such a solid teammate for the classics races. Class act taking to the press after finishing 4th and explaining what happened while taking accountability. Bike riders know how dangerous it can be in a tight group when the rider in front of you stands on the pedals; that little bit of movement back can be devastating. Heal up WVA - and go get some TdF stage wins!
Maybe they change it now, because the giro is not far. But WvA was not planned to go to the tour.
@@luuzmaster3418 ahh, thanks, didn't know that
TDF? He broke his collar bone. He will not be on a trainer with his hands for 4-6 weeks and not healed until the end of June. This is like last season for Pogacar after he crashed.
UCI should ban riders riding standing up.
A true professional.
It s nobody s fault..It s just a very unfortunate event..and it must be so hard to ride at 60 kmh so close each other
Don't think there's any use in him blaming himself, it's a dangerous sport and this is basically a race incident. As sad as it is, these things happen and there's no real way to avoid them other than to stop racing altogether.
He is visibly broken from inside!
Class act!
In the end we are all responsible for our own front wheel.
Does no half wheeling apply to pro riders?
@@mrs3lfd3s7ruc7 everyone half wheels at their own risk I guess. But at those speeds you only need a little touch Of Benoot got out of the saddle he lost a tiny bit of momentum and Wout nudges the wheel. It’s all over. No need to feel bad. Racing incident imo.
@@paulangeloff400 Plus the bike under you shifts slightly backwards when you get out of the saddle. That's why you usually first indicate with a hand or an arm gesture before you do it. I understand that in a tense race situation it's not always realistic to expect that.
@@mrs3lfd3s7ruc7 Apparently Jumbo doesn't have any protocols in place. They looked sloppy at Catalunya.
Van Aert was not paying attention. His fault as are all his crashes.
RESPECT 🙏 Benoot takes responsibility & accountability for the incident. 🙏 no bullshit, no excuses.
SO HOW DO YOU WATCH THE RIDERS BEHIND YOU???? NOT HIS FAULT AT ALL!
Tiesj, not your fault. Overlapping wheels unfortunately happens. That super fast section before the climb is just too dangerous where everyone wants to be on the front.
What a class act clearly showing remorse and compassion. Really sorry to see all the season-ending injuries. I've got to say that one of the biggest things we learn racing bikes is to protect your front wheel. We try to "push forward" when standing up by coming over the top to prevent the bike slowing--but this isn't always feasible when trying to respond to a surge or attack.
Tiesj is a nice guy. Terrible for him and the team.
Its an unfortunate part of cycling and racing in particular at every level. Not really his fault, more Wout's fault, but still just more bad luck than anything else. And really unless you have the gods eye view and comprehensive understanding of causality you can't tell if an event was good or bad luck.
What I always learned racing was man in front had to be predictable; man behind was responsible to protect his own front wheel. And sh*t happens. Props to Venoot to take blame, but it seems a blameless unfortunate accident.
Not his fault
He is falling on his sword. Either a communication issues or Van Aert was riding inattentively. They were at the front of the group and wrecked everybody.
Man, anyone who has ridden competitively or even just group rides knows about the power stand and jut back. Such a shame.
While most uncortunate and I hope WVA is okay, It was on him to watch his own front wheel. You gotta watch your wheel. Thats just a cardinal rule of racing. The person in front of you can't see you.
I'm sure there were other factors at play that made it hard for Wout to avoid.
it's an accident, could happen unfortunately, a big hug to all the guys involved
Very-hearting
So much respect for him. A real team player. Not really his fault, these things happen. So sorry for Wout.
Ah, you just have to feel for him really. It wasn't on purpose and just happens in such a tight racing situation. It's just really unfortunate.
I pay lots of respect for being honest and straight forward about it, no lame excuses, no blaming towards others. "It was me." and that's it.
We're just human. Sh** happens in such a situation.
Just wanna give Tiesj a hug! Such a cruel sport sometimes 😢
new interview online now with him.
Hope you all heal up quickly. That was a nasty crash.
Groenewegen could learn from Benoot. Class act, it's not your fault Tiesj. Hope everyone recovers from this, such a shame Pedersen, Stuyven and van Aert were involved due to their potential in de Ronde van Vlaanderen. Pedersen was my favourite to win, I've only heard about van Aerts injuries so I hope he got out okay as a fan lpoking forward to RVV, of course best wishes to all others that crashed
Feel bad for Tiesj. Such a nice guy and such a wonderful team mate. It was not his fault by any means. It was a racing 'incident', how horribe, gut wrenching it was. See you at the Olympics Champ!
Love Benoot.
Such a horrible crash to have occurred, especially involving a teammate. Many times, no one admits anything, even with video footage showing exactly what happened. Get well fast Wout with a speedy recovery.
It is part of cycling. Everytime these guys go out they know these things can happen. It is not a sport for the weak in mind, body or spirit.
What a contrast with the embarrassing antics in football. Cycling is an admirable sport.
Happens in racing, this is why they started flicking both elbows (often) before standing up, to warn the rider on the wheel that the bike might break just a tiny bit, as this happens when you stand up, its really hard to make this transition without it happening. I touched wheels many times in the past with riders doing this exact thing - so its nice they started doing the signalling, but its not alywas possible. Simply bad luck Wout :(
Saddest moment of cycling in years. It Will be a long and painful recover. Fracture at the sternum is soo serious.
Just before the great classics start another icon of the sport has a terrible crash. Last year Pogacar, this year Van Aert.
That really sucks big time!
Top bloke
NOT YOUR FAULT AT ALL, RIDER BEHIND BEWARE, ALWAYS THE CASE ...... BAD LUCK!
He's just a top bloke
I raced bicycles for 14 years.
I estimate I've seen between two to three crashes every single race maybe 500 races.
Eddie B told me, " when a crash is happening, take care of yourself first." Which, is only natural. R. I. P. Eddie B.
No matter who you are, somebody's going to crash you out, or you eventually will crash somebody out.
This crash looked really bad.
Tough sport.
To quote Stu Lance, the Lakers announcer ," You're not going to win any battles with mr ground."
I know Wout is the leader of the team but usually the rider behind needs to ride safely from the rider in front. I feel bad for Wout but it would be a mistake for the team to make Tiesj a scapegoat.
Its not Benoots fault. Its not Wouts fault. Its the asphalt!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think he's alright, be surprised if there's a break. Not to be upset not your fault, all in racing.
Accountability. Class Act.
wasnt his fault at all!!
It's incredibile how could an experienced rider like him to do such a stupid mistake like STANDING UP while going 60 kph and being part of a "train" with Van Aert in his wheel...
Supposedly Wout said "Go" to Tiesj and that's why he wanted to accelerate. It's just bad luck/miscommunication ☹️
@@cthzierp5830 but would make no sense, how it's possibile to call for an action and not being prepaired for it?
@@FlorinSaveliu you sound confident you wouldn't make ANY mistakes in a 6 hour race at 70 km/h within a packed group. Good for you.
Het was niet jouw fout, Tiesj.
Not his fault. Its just close proximity racing. Sometimes u do get too close to the guys wheel in front and as he stands to accelerate the bike momentarily kicks backwards. Racing is dangerous unfortunately and sometimes crashes come down to mm's. One time you get away with it, and other times u don't.
At E3 a few weeks ago Wout crashed and it was by his own admission all his fault. Now he wrecks and it has to be anybody's fault but his? Hours at fast speed, inches from another rider over changing terrain and weather are to blame.
