- Christmas in July!!! Have you started planning for Christmas this year? In this video I share with you some tips to plan for Christmas and some of the things I'm budgeting for this year. Plus a few gift ideas for kids.

I love these videos! I was just telling my husband that it's officially Christmastime in my head as soon as 4th of July is over. That is when I really start planning/plotting/buying. This year, I am trying not to buy too too early. Like you said with your one year old, I've made the mistake of purchasing something in like March and holding onto it all year and then my daughters are either no longer interested in it or have surpassed the skill level.
For planning, I make Amazon lists for every single person in my life starting in January each year. Any time I see something I think they'd like, I'll add it to the list. After 4th of July (typically Prime Day), I'll start checking the lists every day for any sales. I'm also waiting for the Target toy sale which I think is in September or October. I purchase a lot of open ended toys from small shops, so I'll grab those earlier if I see a good sale. And then I also create a spreadsheet in Google Drive with everything I've purchased and what category it goes into. I try to limit ourselves to 10 gifts for our girls: One from Santa, one sibling gift, one joint gift, and then seven from mom and dad. It keeps me nice and organized. I admittedly do not stick to a monetary budget only because if you're familiar with the world of open ended wooden toys, sometimes they can be pretty pricey, so I just try to make sure everything I am buying is intentional and will definitely get played with.

Thank you for sharing how you plan! I love spreadsheets and having one on Google Drive is a great idea. I have ongoing Amazon lists for my kids as well and that’s a good idea to check them often.
I do love shopping with small shops and in the past year have started getting more into open ended and wooden toys. 🥰 So I do know how pricy they can be! I love those things you already got and are planning on!

I have been using the Santa’s bag app to keep track of gift ideas, budget, what I have purchased, and where I have them hidden. It has helped so much! I usually kept all of my lists in a notebook, but so far I am loving the app. I started buying in June when my daughter found a hoodie she wanted. It was on sale, but she just didn’t have it in her budget at the time, so I snuck back in and got it for her. I also bought a couple of toys and an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner on Prime Day, and a robe for my daughter in July. The rest is all just a list of ideas. We usually stick to seven gifts and a stocking at home, and one or two gifts for each niece and nephew.

Love this- my second daughter has her birthday 12 days before Xmas…so I set up a rule that I buy her gifts for her birthday during the mid year sales, so that it doesn’t impact my Xmas budgets and she gets a normal amount 😊 I’ve always done this style of budget/planning for Xmas and think it’s fantastic!

I like you buy year round when I see a great deal. Recently, I saw an excellent clearance on space legos at Walmart and purchased those for my son who will be 7 this Christmas. Also, I know he wants a robot building kit so I have time if I plan this time of year to find an appropriate one that fits into our budget. His birthday is late in the year so it helps to budget early -- starting in January for us. Also, the after Christmas sales are awesome I was able to buy him a $180 Hot Wheel Garage for $40 in January one year and saved it until the next Christmas.

I started shopping in February for my grandkids, I've got 2 of those big plastic totes full so far, love shopping early, by October I'm usually all done
That’s awesome! I do the same thing and fill up totes in my special closet so if they open it up they won’t see the gifts.
Funny I typed in Christian Christmas and this appeared- Don’t forget Jesus- He truly is the Reason for the Season-- everything else “Christmas” is fluff- fabulous fluff but extra fluff.😂😂😂😎✝️😎🍷🍷🍷
