Loved the reasons for everyones gifts. I love when people explain in a way that the individual personalities are apparent and why even "odd" gifts are perfect for that person.
We were always on a super small budget growing up, and if Amazon wishlists had been a thing back then, that system would have been perfect. And our mom always tried her best ti fund the gifts that made sense for us at each age so we'd ended up with some oddball ones over the years too, and I always remember those fondly.
My own child is turning 4 in Jan and this is the first year we've had the budget to get more than just a few things, and it's been SO much fun doing the shopping and deal searching and I'm beyond excited to see him opening everything tomorrow for Xmas. I haven't told his dad or my mom what several of them are, because I'm so excited to see then be just as surprised as he is.
We also know that getting a gift just because or for a rainy day during the rest of the year isn't realistic for our budget, and because his birthday is a month after Xmas, and we done have a big family or friend network, the gifts are only from us the parents, and my mom. And we have to try and get things that he won't developmentally out grow by summer, because then he's still got 6 months before more gifts can happen. It's been very challenging. He's also our first so there's that big learning curve if what you think is realistic for their age and development and what actually is realistic. I'm hoping we got the balance right this year.
One of his oddball things this year is pre k workbooks. We've been testing out the homeschool waters and he genuinely loves workbook time every day. We've explained it to other people and they think we're clearly pretending he likes it and forcing him. But my mom understands because she's seen it, so he's getting several more pre k workbooks in addition to various toys. He's also getting a raised garden bed for his birthday so he when we have our garden this summer for food, he can have his own personal garden. And I think he's going to love it.
One of my favorite oddball gift years was a huge box of random scrapbook scrapbooking supplies. My mom passed by a garage sale one day and stopped on a whim and someone was cleaning out their whole collection. A BUNCH of totally random things. Everything open and partly used. Not all of it my taste. But more in a single go than we'd ever be able to afford ourselves at stores, even on sale. I think she paid about $25 back then, 15 years ago. So it wasn't exactly super cheap in terms of a single spend for our budget. But for what I got, it was such a steal. And I remember that excitement from that to this day. I knew not to expect much that got to be brand new or name brand so the mild usage those things had already experienced was completely unimportant to me. 🙃

Thank you for your kind comments. I LOVE the Amazon wishlists and am SO thankful for them. They help keep things so much more organized and really helps my kids too when thinking about what they would like. That's great that the "oddball" gifts have such a special memory for you. Those are the best gifts that last over the years, even if it's just in your memories.
Good luck with you possible homeschooling journey. We're in our 9th year ourselves and, while a struggle at times, definitely worth it for our family. I have a number of videos on my channel related to homeschooling, in case you're interested. That's how I few found out about much of the curriculum we started with, by watching videos on CZcams, and then researching it for myself.

lol well as for the shopping cart it is sturdy, almost indestructible. But your husband is right my kids loved to push it into walls and run with it. I had to hide it every time kids came over and recently found my sister does the same. Kids just can’t resist it and it drove me nuts kids running around with it and hitting everything. That being said I now am thinking of getting one for my youngest in plastic this time though the Melissa and Doug cart is ADORABLE.
Also have the opposite problem with with gifts lol I bought a lot for my two year old because the next oldest is six and she doesn’t have any toys really, I got rid of everything when I thought we were done 😂

You might not get the full amount back for the frozen set our store clearanced it down and that’s the amount you will get back. We were able to buy our three year old the my little pony unicorn play set from Sam’s club on clearance but we split it up she will get half on Christmas and half on her birthday in August cause she doesn’t need that many unicorns to play with and that’s it. Then again you guys probably do the Santa thing too and we don’t. We do buy and donate to the local shelter and buy things they need and we also donate and buy blankets and dog bones and items for cats at the local shelter for our Christmas present . We want to teach them to give back and give a toy to children who don’t have anything. I probably would have returned the fisher price Frozen toy myself cause my three year wouldn’t play with that but she would play with the play set cause of the horse. I would have donated that canvas painting with markers cause I don’t do markers with a three year old. So glad my kids don’t know anything about Frozen or any of the Disney princesses cause she would want them but she doesn’t need them to much of a waste in money.
