This loco is amazing. The looks on it are amazing, the power is amazing and this just makes me jealous of what you have. 9/10.
Thanks very much mate - yep, just an amazing model - really glad you liked this one!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I *love* the C1 class.. it’s probably my favourite loco besides the A4 Pacific. Having Sam’s accent narrate this is somewhat satisfying as well lol
Thanks very much mate - yeah I can see why, they're just superb! haha glad you liked the accent too! ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I didn’t think bachmann was able to do this :0. It’s nice when bachmann does a good loco :)
I know - it's a huge step up for them, very impressive indeed! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Such an amazing locomotive Sam!! Your content is amazing and i hope you get to 50k subscribers soon :D
Thanks so much Freddy, I really appreciate that! 50k subs would be absolutely amazing!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Freddy Fazbear's Gaming Y Mas Hello Buddy How's It Going?
@@SamsTrains Henry Fazbear
This doesn’t outshine the LBSC Atlantics, but it’s a close second. The GNR small and large Atlantics are quite beautiful locos; I’m glad examples of both have been preserved.
Marsh just nicked the Ivatt design. All he did was add a wavy running plate and alter the cab - and give an LB smokebox door...
Lovely model - 4-4-2s are probably my favorite configuration of steam locomotive.
Thanks mate! Yeah probably me too actually _ i love them! :D
Mine too!
Atlantic's have to be probs my favorite wheel arrangement, I don't know why but i find something so amazing about em!
I reckon they may be mine too - they're just superb, agreed! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam I truly love your "4" driving wheel locomotive reviews - keep buying! They just look so dam good excellent work and you must be saving model buyers big time.
Thanks very much Leroy - I'll certainly keep buying, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great looking loco, i love the British Atlantics - they look so stylish. The green is beautiful and the lining looks exquisite. I never noticed that the back of the rear wheel arc ( if thats what it's called!) is flat. Great video Sam, well done
- Dylan
Thanks very much Dylan - I really love them too - just amazing things! Glad you liked it mate! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This locomotive looks fantastic in the GNR livery. Great review Sam.
Thanks a lot mate - really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Gorgeous loco Sam. Lovely detail and a really smooth runner. Expensive, yes, but you do get your money's worth with this one. Would be interesting to know what livery GNR coaches would have been. May investigate that. Best, Peter.
many thanks Pete, yeah I agree, would love to know more about the GNR's coaching stock!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I absolutely love the look, style, and type of this
Ooh me too Grant - lovely aren't they?! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Excellent and very fair review Sam... I'll never agree with you on the extras that need to be fitted but you have been very fair here... a pleasure to watch! And yes stunning Locomotive that any serious early railways collector would feel delighted to have! Ultimately I have to say the "La France" will always hold a huge place in my heart.
Thanks very much William - glad you thought this was fair! And La france is wonderful too! :3
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Once an engine attached to a train was afraid of a few drops of rain he went into a tunnel and smoked out his funnel and would come out again (Henry was originally going to be a C1 Atlantic)
10.20 Those little brass boxes on top of the driving-wheel splashers are oil-boxes, connected by piping to the main bearings on the driving-wheel axles -- which are otherwise quite unreachable by the driver when oiling round.
Triang-Hornby used to offer some of their locos as a pack of sub-assemblies at a slightly lower price, for the delighted kid in us all to slot/clip/screw together for even more fun. These were the CKD or 'completely knocked down' range. Perhaps Bachmann is thinking of introducing a 'partially knocked down' range.
A beautiful model. Thanks for sharing Sam.
My pleasure Mike, glad you enjoyed it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Glorious model. Will have to start saving up!
haha thanks Gareth - can't blame you mate, they are astonishing little machines!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This probably is my favourite steam engine just because it looks stunning. Close second is the Adams Radial tank engine. I love the huge driving wheels on both of them. You never fail to impress as well Sam, well done!
Yeah it's probably my favourite too now - they really are superb aren't they? And you're right, the Adams Radial is wonderful too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Stunning loco! Cant wait to watch, I should probably leave a comment after I've watched it.. ;D
haha no worries mate - feel free to leave as many as you like! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awsome video, I think u should get a Stirling single and compare it with your Bachmann Emily model. Just a suggestion
Thanks mate! Yes that's a great suggestion - I would love to get one, but they're even more expensive than this!! :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The only company that makes the Stirling single is locomotion but they are unmotorised kit-build engines...
@@daylightman8459 Rapido made a sterling single, I picked it up when I visited the NRM because it is my favourite loco. Unfortunately it did set me back… quite a bit because it costs so much
Love the video! fantastic to see the 00 gauge as i own and run the 5" version. They are notorious wheel spinners
Thanks a lot mate - wow, the 5" model must be outstanding!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What a beautiful loco indeed. Great for review as always Sam :D
Thanks so much mate - really glad you enjoyed it! :D

I have the LNER version. The best model I've had from Bachmann. Stunning from all angles and looks like it is having a leisurely stroll with a rake of teaks
Glad to hear that Chris - this is certainly my best Bachmann model too - absolutely wonderful!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Well done on this review Sam! :D
Thanks so much Kameron! :D
I'm blown away by this model, I was sort of expecting it to get 1st place but 4th is good enough!!!!
haha I know - I do think this is deserving of top 5, for sure! :D

Great review ! That really is a gorgeous locomotive .
Thanks a lot mate - really glad you like her! :D

Quite the exquisite build here. I certainly hope some future models get the same treatment.
Yeah I agree - happy to pay these prices if the product is truly this impressive!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What a stunning model....like you Sam I have fallen in love with it.....tempted to preorder but as I already have two preorders with Hattons I think I should wait....I enjoyed watching the N2 running, though I love my N7. Thanks for the review and the excitement you showed in doing so.....regard, Myles.
Thanks very much Myles - absolutely, it's impossible not to fall in love with these! That's fair enough - it is a crazy price tag unfortunately :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Wow she’s one beautiful locomotive. I really enjoying watching your videos when I subscribed to you a while ago probably last year

These look lovely. Might have to check out the different livery options. Very unique this model and looks great going around. Clint
Thanks a lot Clint - I can highly recommend checking them out- they are stunning! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I believe that GNR C1 Atlantic No’251 is one of Bachmanns best models along with City of Truro, Hardwicke and Midland Compound No’1000.
And also the Johnson 1P
Hi Sam. Great to watch the review again. Ordered the loco today from Rails for £149.99, which was today’s special offer.
Thanks very much mate - yes that's a great price isn't it?! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Oh c'mon! 4.5 for the Mechanism and the Value! Really nice purchase! You get what you pay for. I'm sure NRM had to get their piece of this pie as well.
haha I know I know Andrew - I just feel that if Hornby or Hatton's did this, they'd do it just as well, but for less money!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great review of an absolutely beautiful model.

Remember that the LBSCR H1 is the C1's cousin - they were basically the same (Douglas Earle-Marsh came to the LBSCR from the GNR) - with the only difference being that the LBSCR Atlantics had bigger cylinders, and thus didn't need to be thrashed as much as the GNR types.
Yeah absolutely - they are very similar indeed! :D
Happy New Year,
Sam :)
HEY SAM'STRAINS, I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THE PART WITH THE SMOKEBOX DOOR OPENING
ME TOO - IT'S SO SO COOL!! :D
thats a beautiful train great vid sam : )

This Great Northern Railway C1 Bachmann Toy Looks Like Fun. Thanks Sam'sTrains Mate. X
Thanks a lot Luke - really glad you liked the looks of this!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Fun fact: Henry was gonna be this locomotive but the illustrator drew him as a A1 so awdry made it so that Henry was an experimental engine that was a mix of both of them
Ooh that's cool - awesome fun fact! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
When I got mine, I was suprised at how easily a 4-4-2 could pull 5 of my teak carriages (they are old and have very stiff axles, so probably take as much pulling force as 8-10 carriages)
Yeah me too - the pulling power is very impressive indeed! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thank you so much! I am so incredibly happy! I did ask you a little while if you had one and if you could review it and this so great. I'll leave another comment on the loco after the video.
My pleasure mate - thanks for waiting on this one, hehe!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Bachmann got the under frame color spot on. I own a rapido stirling single and the under frames look way too dark. Thanks for the review Sam!
They certainly did - and blimey - there's no excuse for that, when Rapido charge what they do!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Wow this engine is so impressive I hope Bachmann make more of thease. Grate choise of loco Sam.
Thanks very much mate! Yeah it'd be great to see this stay in the range! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Cor! I have a pretty old (put it this way, it was designed to work with Hornby Zero!) J52, 1247, in GNR livery, and it seems like the application matches this! Looks superb! Did I notice a reference to the Tango around the 11:15 mark?
Ooh very nice - I bet the J52 looks absolutely awesome in this livery! Ooh yes - very well spotted!! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains it does! It's R496 if you want to have a look. Hornby re released it a little while ago as a railroad model. Easiest way to tell em apart is that the original doesn't have lining on the splashers
5 coaches!!! Do you think my bachmann Edward could pull 2 or 3 LNER express coaches he's not very big but he's heavier then my bachmann James I just don't wanna ruin my Edward but if ik he can manage it would make an awesome sight
A fantastic review, Sam! Bachmann Branch-Line and Locomotion never fail to deliver a gorgeous model to the collector.
I have one of the Locomotion Models that is from Bachmann Branch-Line, and it happens to be a goods engine-- BR 9F 92220 "Evening Star"!
I don't think I've ever had my breath taken away by a Bachmann model before, and Evening Star is just such a handsome looking goods engine.
I am surprised that you had a bit of difficulty with the sleeve for your locomotive; the sleeve for Evening Star slips on and off smoothly. The only Locomotion sleeve that gives me grief is for the Hornby Southern Q1, and only him!
I do hope you pick up a few more of these wonderful Locomotion models. Their level of detail and performance is downright phenomenal.
Absolutely true - a fantastically marvellous model this one! Oh very nice - I bet that Evening star is a truly wonderful machine! I'd love to get some more at some point - they are worth it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hadn't realized Heljan fitted detail as standard- always thought it was left out in packs. From when abouts did they start doing this?
They do that from time to time too - but my Heljan Class 26, Metropolitan BoBo and 128 DMU all had full buffer beam detail fitted - each needing modification before being able to negotiate 3rd radius curves!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The other annoying thing about Heljan is their inconsistency - as this demonstrates ;)
Amazing locomotive! I've seen you review this type of locomotive before but its in the LBSC Brown No.39. This is probably your second 4-4-2 locomotive. Then after this we can probably see the 4-4-2 Atlantic USA from Mantua that you showed from the Camel Back locomotive.
Thanks very much mate - yes it's a similar engine, but a completely different class! I don't have the Mantua Atlantic sadly, but they look cool! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Did you know that, in the world of Thomas and Friends, Henry was actually supposed to be an Atlantic C1? But, due to illustrators messing up the design for The Railway Series, he eventually turned into a Stanier Black 5?
Good job Callum!! :-D It's a lovely model!
haha yes indeed - he did well!! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Absolutely stunning, I want one.
I do believe that you do have a couple other Atlantic's (that is if tank engines count), the Adams Radials. It would be nice to see them again (despite having an Oxford one myself).
Cheers
Thanks a lot Connor! Ahh yeah technically those are atlantics I guess - though I'm not sure whether they're still called Atlantics, being tank engines!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I only put my front coupler on my larger engines whenever I wanna do a double header but otherwise I just take the front coupler off cuz as Gordon says "tender engines don't shunt"
21:00 what type of coaches are those green ones
Absolutely beautiful model! Great review once again! I have a little suggestion, but could you do a review the Wall of Fame one day?
Thanks so much Kris - yeah I could certainly do that - I did one before, but I need to do it again soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Before the video: let me guess, sam is going to say the model is overpriced
After the video: Bachmann outdid themselves with this one. This model is a home run. The best LNER style apple green livery I’ve ever seen on any model locomotive, so many separately fitted intricate details, really slow crawl, die cast running board, metal whistle, painted gauges in the cab, openable smoke box, tender pick ups, and proper bearings.
The best bachmann locomotive I’ve ever seen. This one exceeded everyone’s expectations and finally a bachmann model where it’s value for money is above average.
Thanks Callum Wilcox for tempting Sam at warley like the online scammers on social media
haha - well it's Bachmann, so of course it is! But for once this is half worth it - really really impressive overall - probably the best I've seen them do!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Love the heljan tanjo reference!!!!
haha well spotted!! ;D
Yes you finally got one this is my favorite locomotive ever how much was it where did you find it at?
Thanks so much Glenn! Keep watching for all that info! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I laughed out loud when you said the Atlantic was unusual.
Of course I understand they're unusual in the UK but here in the states American Flyer's flagship cheapo S scale locomotive was an atlantic and they are EVERYWHERE to the point I bought a running parts engine for $5 at a train show to two months ago.
Another great video. Keep doing what you do.
Oh yeah of course - most Atlantics were old news by the end of the 1920s over here!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I've got mine! I even have GNR coaches and it's the preserved No. 251 of the National Collection.
Wow that's fantastic - where did you get the GNR coaches?!?! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains A friend of mine had some repainted old Hornby SR passenger caoches and he sold them to me for a fire-sale price.
Hello Sam,
That's a wonderful review of the Bachmann NRM Great Northern C1 Atlantic No.251, I have one too, they are beautiful models, the detail and the running performance is excellent.
Wow, you got it for £130.00 at Warley Model Railway Exhibition in Birmingham back in November 2018, what a bargain, I've paid mine for £179.00 on Locomotion Models, it's very expensive, but it's worth it.
Now you have 2 Bachmann 4-4-2 Atlantic Locomotives, I'm still planning to get the Bachmann H1 La France very soon, from Rails of Sheffield very likely.
Once again, a wonderful review.
5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
10/10

Jordan Shingler 😉
Hey Jordan, thanks very much mate - glad you were able to get one too - they are very superb! Good luck with La france - it's another fantastic looking machine!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains my pleasure. 😊
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Henry yet. When Henry was build in 1919 he was a mix between an Gnr A1 and a C1. This caused Henry to have problems building up steam. This all changed after his crash with the flying Kipper. After said crash the green engine was sent to crewe and was rebuild into an LMS Black 5.
haha absolutely - it's amazing how little this actually looks like Henry actually! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I liked that split second image of that engine you were talking about. What class is that?
haha! That was the horrendous O2 Tango from Heljan!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome video today Sam beautiful locomotive have you got my picture ready for tomorrow live stream mate lol
Thanks very much James - yes indeed, I have lots of photos ready to show! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome video, it does look amazing :)
Thanks mate - really glad you liked it! :D
These used to run out of Keighley (where the KWVR is) to Bradford (as they are GNR). Sadly the line that they used to run on has been taken up. So in my village I have no train station anymore. But my great grandad tells me the times when he was a boy and he would see them going over a viaduct in our village!
Ooh really?? Blimey - can you walk where the line used to be then? What memories he must have of those years!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
You can walk along the viaduct, and the path, an old beige has bee taken up. You have to walk beside it. At the start of the viaduct, there is an old run down semaphore signal!
Also, the H1 was actually based on the C1 class by their designer, D. E. Marsh, who helped to design the C1 with Henry Ivatt as well.
Ahh is that so? That explains why they're so similar then!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cool video sam!
Cheers Justin! :D
Great review Sam nice loco.
Thanks Arthur! :D
Hello Sam, This is my 1st time commenting, I watched your unboxing of the Bachman 1218 Pere Marquette, and I got one! and I love it! I also just recently picked up the Hornby Mallard train set, and I love it also. So I was wondering if you could run the Pere M., Mallard, and the Flying Scotsman (which I want to get next) together and do a mini-review/comparison of them. Also I have a question, the Bachman and Hornby trains and coaches have very different couplers, is there a way to get an adapter to run the US trains with the Hornby coaches, or vice versa?
Hey Kurt, welcome to the comments! Really glad you got a Pere Marquette - how is it?? Yes that'd be awesome - I'd love to run those together again! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
11:22 lol that 02 Tango!
haha well spotted! :D
The Ivatt Atlantics looked really great to me. Actually, the C1s pulled Pullman trains in LNER ownership, the Harrogate Pullman train service, so you can let her pull some Pullman coaches, which would certainly look lovely with the apple green and the coaches’ umber and cream.
Thanks very much mate - I love these too! Ahh brilliant - I'll definitely get her to haul some Pullmans next time! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Lovely looking loco indeed. Green livery seems to just work with any engine. Great review again Sam.
Speaking of green, there's a new 3MT in BR green coming out from Bachmann later this year. Looks gorgeous in the catalogue. Might you end up reviewing it in the future?
Thanks very much Markus - I agree, it really does just work! :D

That model is stunning bachmann did an AMAZING model for 00 gauge!!!
Thanks Luke - I agree, they really broke the mold for this one! :D

Just wondering about the roof space layout location. Doe's it get ccccccCOLD or HOT as the season goes -or do you have serious insulation?
Yes it gets incredibly cold and incredibly hot - winter is fine since we have a heater (and decent insulation) but it gets hot in the summer - I was working up here at 36 degrees this year!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Well sprung buffers, much detail and the paint work. The price is fair.
No sprung buffers mind you - but yes, the level of detail does at least somewhat justify the massive price tag - that's true!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Very fine indeed. Looks very modern, I would never have guessed this was early 20th century. Without the details on the buffer it looks like someone has been using it for target practice.
Thanks a lot Ian - I know, it does look a lot newer than it is! Yeah, it is a shame they didn't detail the buffer beam from the factory, rather than just fitting that coupling!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Beautifull! A greyhound waiting to be unleashed
haha I agree! :D
May I politely inquire why the C1 turns into a
2-8-0 for a single frame at 11:21? Is that supposed to be a subliminal message? Does the loco shown have a bad metallic sheen to it?
Henry if The Railway Series Illustrators got him as Wilbert wanted:
Wonderful model, this gives me great excitement for the Rails/Bachmann Caledonian 812 class when it comes out next year! Even if the price tag for those is very steep.
Thanks a lot Ben! Yeah it should be great to see those - but sadly the ridiculous price really has put me off those (Even the Atlantics seem a bargain in comparison!!)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
That’s a stunning model, I love it! Best ever Bachmann model? Would you fit the detail and post the photos, I’d love to see it in full trim?
Thanks a lot Matthew! Yes I'm thinking of giving that a try - this one deserves to look its best! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I love for a single frame, you showed the "model" of the O1 there
haha, well spotted, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
It’s a beautiful model to be sure. How does it look when standing next to a B12 or A4?
Thanks so much! Oooh I don't know - I'll have to try that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains your welcome, also are you looking into the NRM Stirling single
Hello again Sam from the colonies, I just managed to get my hands on a dcc and sound A1. Havent run it with stock yet as I am waiting for new kadee couplers to fit to it. In your opinion how do they fair at pulling a decent train. Mind you it is a new A1 dcc/sound
Hey Thors, thanks a lot for the comment - that sounds superb - really hope you enjoy it! Is it a Bachmann one? In which case, yes they're pretty good pullers!
