Hannah is lyrically untouchable. The Prop are the most important punk band right now, I feel! Great show!
Best Canadian political punk band
Right now? For at least 20 years.
@@Matt45678 over 20
On track for most important ever
Check out the unscripted moments podcast, 2 guys do an episode on each Prop song with special guests and band members. Very interesting
Propagandhi is the most important band of all time. Take the music away and just read their lyrics and their entire catalogue is a manifesto to how the world should be and how it unfortunately is.
And yet we ignore every word don't we.
if you're a communist maybe lmao.
My all-time favorite band. Love from SA.
Getting Failed States album Tattooed

You basically got the song idea right. Apparently the singer was present at a game with his niece where such a display (soldiers rappelling) happened. Propaghandi are somewhat of an anarcho-leftist band so you can imagine how they viewed such a display.
Coach's corner is a segment between the first and second period of a hockey game here in Canada that's meant to discuss the game. Don Cherry and Ron McClean are the hosts and the clip at the start of the song is from that show. Don Cherry was the one talking about supporting the troops during a hockey game intermission and the singer adresses Ron McClean during the song as being the voice of reason.
On a side note: I see contact sports a little like a mosh pit at a metal show: it's violent but without the intent to actually hurt (at least not in any significant way) and a healthier outlet to certain forms of energy so I don't really see the contradiction personally. Good talk though
Chris? Is that you? LMAO!
I like the comparison to a mosh pit! If a player actually hurts another player seriously, there is a ton of immediate remorse there. Just like picking up a stranger in the pit
the story I read was that his niece asked him "why do those men have guns?" and he straight grabbed her hand and walked out.
@Jayme Fortune
They frequently discuss class and class struggles in their lyrics, they are a leftist band.
You don't actually seem to know what leftism is if you think it has anything to do with Obama. These guys are Canadian and Obama was further right than the Canadian conservative party on most of his policies.
You also conflate liberal with left which isn't the same at all.
I fucking hate violent pits... I like the jumpy happy kind with a bit of pushing and light contact. I don't want some douchebag coming in to intentionally hurt. Then again I'm a hemophiliac and probably shouldn't be in the moshpit in the first place. But yeah contact sport is pretty different from killing in a war and there's no irony or hypocrisy in the message that these sporting events shouldn't be a vehicle for military recruitment. Like he says, in the end it's just a kid's game.
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THE RADDEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!!!
Agreed🤘🏻
@Braylen Zeke yup, I have been using Flixzone} for months myself :)
You should totally find a way to talk about them at length on some sort of platform. Id probably listen to every episode religiously.
@@_D_E_N_N_I_S_ I've got some ideas!
I actually heard you shout this video out which was cool. I was assuming you saw it since you seem as nerdy as me. Funny that you are the first comment.
Propagandhi is one of the best bands to have ever existed..
If you like that lyric, then you are in store for quite the bounty of incredible lyrics via the genius of Propagandhi. The lyrics are one of the primary elements that make Propagandhi such an unparalleled force in the musical arts. They have never made a bad album, but they were positively reinvented from "Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes" and on through "Victory Lap" I do enjoy the first few albums, but the fan favorite of their catalog thus far is commonly thought to be "Supporting Caste". That being said, I often listen to every album from "Today's Empires.." through "Victory Lap" from start to finish on repeat for months straight.
Also... love that "mind blown" moment from Sori when she finds out the Military pays the NFL for propaganda! lol
Propagandhi have been my favorite band since "Less Talk, More Rock". I grew up stuck in a deep red bible belt state and their albums were a needed escape from that. I only just got to see them for the first time a couple years ago. I'm a 36yr old man and was almost brought to tears.
These two didn't even scratch the surface of what this song means. No offense to them, but propagandhi are a fucking brilliant band. The cultural worship of the military both in Canada and America are a fucking disease infesting those most easily manipulated by nationalist propaganda. Our countries aren't in danger from military threats. Our countries are in danger from our politicians and capitalist industry. The ultra wealthy won't stop until they've taken everything from the working class. People need to wake the fuck up. Stop buying into the idea we should be fighting one and other. Racism, sexism, homophobia, all of those ideas only appeal to our most primitive instincts of feeling uncomfortable with those different than ourselves. All of us who are struggling to survive are brothers and sisters. We need to stand up for our selves. Those that profit off our labour by the hundreds of millions of dollars and then turn around and hide it in overseas bank accounts and don't pay a fucking cent in taxes... those people are the enemy. Those are the people preventing us from achieving our potential as human beings. Fuck capitalism. Fuck the ultra wealthy. Fuck the global elite.
I do the same!
Propagandhi - without love
That’s a must.
Lyrics with prop are always super important. Every song has a message
One of my favorite songs.
Agree!!! Lyrics can’t be any heavier!!
Pleaseeeeeee 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
The amazing thing about it is that song is about his cat. Mine just died after 19 years together and that song hits home hard.
Simply the most intelligent song writers of the planet.
YES!!!!!
Yeeessssss! Propagandhi!! Just saw them live several months ago- was an experience, goosebumps all over. They are one of those bands that you just *have* to see live at least once in your life.
* The rest of this album, Supporting Caste, is just as awesome as Dear Coach’s Corner
I saw them 4 times back in the early & mid 90's! Amazing show every time & I'm glad to have just found out they are still making the best music ever!!!!!
Propagandhi's singer was an army brat and hockey player, so he's not just talking out his ass here. There's another similar song, "Die Jugend Marschiert", which is about the first-person shooter game America's Army, which was developed by the DoD.
If you guys do another one, I think Vin would find the lyrics to "Fedallah's Hearse" quite meaty. "Potemkin City Limits" has great imagery; might tug your heartstrings.
His dad was a NATO pilot and was stationed on a nuclear armed bomber during the cold war.
RIP Francis
Felldalahs hearse is the best
OVER PRODUCTION REDUCED DEMAND
@@SBb374 yeah, talks about being on a base in the Carolinas in I Was A Pre-Teen McCarthyist.
Big ups, this is not a super easy song to get every detail of, and he gets really close. An astute listener.
Love the fact people are taking the time to discover new music to them and understand how important this band is. Been listening to them since less talk after grabbing survival of the fattest.
I love how you start discussing issues because you listened to a song. that is the power of art
Thank You!!! Propaghandi is one of my favorite punk bands of all time. Their music is very intricate, also the lyrics are deep and really make you think....Also they're pretty awesome live :)
Review or reaction the album that song is of is worth a listen. They have so many great songs but that album Supporting Caste is amazing
Amazing album and amazing song
Hell yes
Propaghandi is one powerfull band.
Yes. Propagandhi are from Winnipeg, Manitoba
More like Portage.
Pre-emptive like before I even watch this because you're reviewing my favorite band.
Always an interesting perspective, I like the channel in general and cheers to the variety here.
I met a couple of the band members a few years back, they're really chill, down to earth guys (and girl).
One of my all time favourite bands. A punk chick introduced them to me when I was about 14 or so, and I haven’t stoped listening since. Currently 35.
Todays empire , tomorrow ashes !
"Coach's Corner is a segment airing during the first intermission of the Hockey Night in Canada television broadcast of National Hockey League games. It has been hosted by Ron MacLean and Don Cherry since 1986"
The two guys arguing at the start of the song are Maclean and Cherry. They're inextricably linked to the game, like Madden is to football, I guess?
Guys...if you liked this song, listen to Without Love by them next. You'll just have to trust me on this one.
Without Love and Unscripted Moments are my two favorite Propagandhi songs ever.
Propagandhi are the best band in the world.
Wow, a Propagnadhi reaction video. Holy smokes. Never would i have imagined. Song came out end-of-Bush II era but still rings true
As far as this song goes, you should also dig into don cherry’s recent firing from hockey night in Canada, to get an idea who the song is also talking about.
This band ignites a spark in your mind. Please check out the songs die jugend marschiert, or name and address withheld, or iteration!
Iteration would be such a good one for them
Excellent choices, Potemkin City Limits remains my fav.
this was so much fun to watch you both hear for the first time!
Please Propagandhi more.. any and EVERY. I was in 8th grade when I first heard Propagandhi and I can't even begin to explain how influential they were on shaping me into the man I am today.. I was your everyday average suburbian white kid and their songs made me cock my head and actually start to fucking think on how the world I was brought up in could very well have a different narrative than that which I was being taught and told. Long story short but now I am 38 years old and Propgandhi is my favorite band of all time. I could talk about their music and lyrics for days on end with anybody. They started out as a skate band overflowing with angst and that narrative slapped me in the face and made me question the truths and facts I had been told. They have since aged into a profound voice, almost poetry, learned to master their instruments and musical arrangements and have evolved in a way that I can still, if not more so, relate to but their entire discography has aged like a fine wine and is still completely applicable to today. Words can not describe how emotionally attached I am to this band. Thank you so much for reacting to one of their songs and I hope you do more so in the future. Chris Hannah is a voice that needs to be heard.
"The guys pulling the strings are corrupt as hell." Wonder what Vin would think of "Iteration" by these guys.
I love "Iteration"!
I havent listened to Propaghandi since "how to clean everything." Im excited to hear it with you guys here.
Check it all out bro. They completely evolved! For the better. Not many bands can do that!
@@longliveavalon exactly!
@@longliveavalon yea, Ive definately put em back in the rotation since this reaction. Im not super into new music anymore so I still prefer HTCE for the nostalgia, but they have objectively gotten better over the years.
@@Ryattt81 It sounds like a dumb thing to say that they get better at their instruments with each new album, but they really do. Every album gets more complex musically and they just get more and more talented and capable as musicians. Compare the musicianship from 'How to Clean...' with 'Failed States' and the level of straight up talent and ability on the latter blows it out of the water.
My man you nailed it right on the cross! Very wise words for an amazing song and most amazing band to me. Thank you for your kind review! Best of luck to you my brother!
wow, I already had respect to you guys for doing so many different music genre, this band is one of my fav of all time and you guys doing this reaction made me have that much more respect for both of you. Keep up the good work.
When she said that's sounds exciting... that's the point. Its makes the kid in the stands go wow that's cool I'm gonna be in the army when I grow up
I'm definitely going to refer to this video in an upcoming episode of "Unscripted Moments: A Podcast About Propagandhi."
This song is a an open letter to Ron from Hockey Night In Canada, about the excessive nationalism that's forcibly paraded around sporting events. It's one of the more effective subconscious recruiting tools unfortunately.
I love that you covered Propagandhi! There are definitely more interesting songs to discuss, both lyrically and musically.
Great song! Stumbled over it years ago. Very random. Never ubderstoof what it was about before now! Thqnls. Your channel is gold ;)
PLEASE react to the song ``A speculative fiction`. it`s about a fictional war between the USA and Canada
One of the greatest hardcore punk bands around... very skilled musicians and very inteligent writers
Thanx for having them
And i hope you Come back to them soon...
They are from canada... so yes hockey here ;)
Propagandhi is from Winnipeg.. our hockey team is called the Jets and CF-18 Hornet fighter jets do fly overs here for some of the hockey games
Dude on the right isn’t Canadian, probably never seen an episode of hockey night in Canada or Don Cherry but completely understands the meaning of this song. Love it.
nailed it Vin, and the song really hits home personally with me as a father and hockey fan. it's such a beautiful sport at it's simplest but with it brings a culture of homophobia, sexism, racism and faux-patriotism!
Every Time I hear this song I get chills. So well written. Thanks for checking it out! Also, look into the people he's writing to. They had alot of issues dealing with race in hockey. Which this song is referring to. Human connection in a sport he loves. No matter the race or Creed.
This is the most amazing song of theirs to hear live, with everyone in the audience singing along and Rod yelling along with the words and pumping his fist. It's just fucking amazing. I love watching live versions of this song over the recorded one.
Propagandhi have very clever and poetic lyrics. You didn't know it was about hockey because the writer knows his personal experience with military indoctrination in NHL is prolific in all professional sports. The thing about Propagandhi is they are not meant for a superficial easy listen. Their music is very politically charged and kind of a slow burn. I would recommend the song Supporting Caste, if not the entire album Supporting Caste, and read the lyrics along with the songs.
I hear ya about the violence, but there is a pretty stark difference between state violence, especially the violence of foreign wars, and the violence that occurs in a sport. A lot of people on the actual left do take shots at sports as an extension of and reinforcement of nationalism, and unlike them, Propagandhi suggests the sport can be a unifying experience without the attached civic pride and overt nationalist sentiment.
Heh, I loved how Vin just blew Sori's mind!
*All board games did actually originate from tabletop war games, but we've evolved from those origins, right? I would present cooperative games, like Pandemic, as an example of how it is different from what Vin described in terms of mechanics. When it comes to sports, I hear that perspective but I am more in agreement with Propagandhi--sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, sometimes play is just play.
Love watching you pay attention to these fantastic lyrics. I love how Propagandhi/Hannah can talk about a very specific situation (how do I explain to my niece the weird connection between sports and army/nationalism) and yet use imagery that relates to much larger scale issues.
Kap is my kind of jock.
Propagandhi is Winnipeg based. Yes these boys are very much Canadian!!!!!!!! BEST GROUP EVER to come out of Canada!
This goes straight to my favourites list.
Those amazing things about the USA, the things that make you feel such pride and association and love towards the USA, are not unique to the USA. In fact, those beautiful prinicples are more diluted and symbolic in the USA than the rest of the world. That feeling of "were all in this together" etc, exist in every developed country. The fact that anyone who needs help to make ends meet or to go to the doctor in the USA is a bludger and a loser is case in point.
this is such a legit understanding of the lyrics that maybe goes even beyond
Kreator - Phantom Antichrist
Kreator - Enemy of God
Propagandhi is one of the most underrated bands of all time. Just go to see every video of youtube of them and all the comment section keeps repeating that.
Vin had the same reaction to the "..village to raise a child / flag to raze the children" line I did when I first heard this song.
Nice show guys. Great commentary.
its the canadian hockey industrial complex, everyone sees canada as passive, hockey is the gateway to rhe army
please GOD ALMIGHTY do more Propagandhi.
Just a fantastic band. And one of my favorite songs from them.
These guys used to play at house parties when we were all in high school. A bunch of us skaters, punks, and bangers had our own places. Those were the salad days. We partied hard, but it was still pretty innocent at that point. Anyway, great memories.
Congrats. You just discovered the greatest fkn punkrock band in the land. These guys are amazing
Props for doing a review to this tune
They are also Leafs fans so they have a lot of pain in their hearts
Holy shit! That song was great!
That entire album, Supporting Caste, is great. All Propagandhi albums are amazing but that one is especially great.
7:45 "... Being a metalhead ehrm .. I mean .. a hiphop head ..." Dat Freudian slip :D
They have the most badass lyrics and kickass music to back it up
update. don cherry was fired for stuff said on air. if you look into current events with don cherry you may understand the song a little more.
Moonspell - Full Moon Madness
Moonspell - Night Eternal
@@corepuncher I'm pretty sure that they will react to that song some day, since they react to Iron Maiden frequently !
In the other hand, they never reacted to Moonspell.
That's why i never requested Moonchild.
"This is a few songs of the people of East Timor. For 30 years these songs are never allowed to sing in my own country. Thousands of people have been killed because singing these songs & I'm proud tonight that I'm singing to all of you. "
Do more Propagandhi.
Propaghandi is a fantastic band, love em. There's a band that was formed by an Ex member called The Weakerthans as well who you should check out.
I'm glad to see propagandhi come up, but out of all their songs, which discuss a myriad of really interesting topics.. you pick the hockey one?
Need to do more Propagandhi
Death- Pull the Plug
Great reaction... Nice to watch reaction to bands that are lesser known but no less intelligent and thoughtful. Prop is a Manitoba gem... Proud to say I live in the same city.
Hockey players aren't actively trying to murder their opponent though so the violence isn't even on the same plane.
True. But the idea of strategy and teamwork, and the other aspects of what vin said are.
If you wanna hear a summary of where propagandhi comes from politically, listen to "Nation States"...They've been my No.1 band for like 20 years now!
UPDATE: The old blowhard, Don Cherry, who you hear at the start of the song, and is referred to in the song as "that sad old man beside you", was fired from Hockey Night in Canada on Nov. 11th, after 38 years, for a comment that was construed as racist.
"you people"
I literally pumped my fist when you went WHOAAAA. Chris Hannah is a fucking genius.
i wish you guys would go back and revisit more propagandhi from this album. you'd like this stuff a lot i think.
i saw them in Chicoutimi when i was 16 or 17 years old. Blew my ducking mind. I'm 39 now,. They still in my top 3 favorite bands.
It's about the entire spectacle that is created to recruit children into believing they should fight for their country.
Nailed it!
I never understood how the anthem is played at every game in America. Here in the UK it's reserved for finals and international games.
And Canada 🇨🇦
I always found that really good political punk and really good political rap are really more similar than they are different.. Just coming from two different perspectives. Glad you did Propagandhi.. They're a sick band.. Would love for you to do a reaction video for the Bay Area rapper Paris.. "What Would You Do" or "Hard Truth Soldiers Redux".. Thanks guys ;)
The clever lines and metaphors are crazier in the song Supporting Caste from this same album. Plus, since you guys do a lot of Christian reactions, that one would definitely be fodder for discussion.
U should listen to other of theirs songs, this bands great
Epica - Kingdom of heaven
Listen to Supporting Caste from the same album 🤘👍
You did this band !.. GREAT!!... great band !.. ❤️🤞 check please Back To The Motorleague song , Propagandhi
If you do another propagandhi song do 'comply/resit'
Great lyrics and the weirdest chord progression ever.
Unfortunately it really relates to recent times.
You mention Kap and I know this band have a huge fondness to the amazing message he has brought to the forefront.
Anyway, for myself, it made me read and learn more about these related issues to the song I mentioned.
Once again, great video!
If you haven't, you should read the Christopher Hitchens article it's critiquing. Holy shit, much of the lyrics are word for word and I'm talking about the terrible shit 😳
08:15 - every convo I've ever had with a proph noob ❤️
My father in law kept pushing me to have you respond to Vital Remains forever underground song and I told him I am almost daily, well he passed away tonight in his sleep and there is a pain in me that hurts beyond words. If you get to that song great but I no longer need to request it. May Tom Cartwright rest in peace.
😯 I had no idea the military paid the NFL. That's totally news to me. I've always thought there was conspiracies and money in sports going around n stuff. But I didn't know it was from the military. That's a whole other level of conspiracies I never considered.
Do you think you could have looked into what Coaches Corner is or who Ron McLean is before starting to try to talk about this song?
Do a video on the wordplay in the old testament.
I'm not a religious person, but that topic sounds genuinely interesting.
would love to hear you cats do a reaction to Adventures in Zoochosis by Propagandhi
Did you guys ever look up coach's corner? Don Cherry is the old man he references.
Unless you are fully immersed in Canadian culture, all the Hockey Night in Canada references may be a bit too specific for you guys. There are MANY more Propagandhi songs that are less specific to a television segment that plays between intermissions on the weekly "Hockey Night in Canada," featuring a segment called Coach's Corner, which until recently featured Ron McLean and Don Cherry. Cherry was recently fired for his comments regarding immigrants to Canada. So this song basically callled out the "sad old man" (Cherry) for his bigotry ten years before he was actually fired for doing what this song references. I think this song was TOO SPECIFIC of a choice for you two, unless you are fully immersed in Canadian culture (or American border cities, like where I live in Buffalo). I would HUGELY recommend you more Propagandhi songs. Suggestions: Note to Self, Unscripted Moments, Speculative Fiction, Fuck the Border, And We Thought the Nation States Were a Bad idea, Today's Empires Tomorrows Ashes, Purina Hall of Fame, and many, many more. Great band (They're my favorite) but you picked the wrong first song to discuss by them. (Love your show!!!!!!)
After the song their discussion is the most perfect white girl world view vs black male world view shit I've ever seen.
this band had a huge impact on me, I grew up on punk in Canada, on army bases in the 90's, met them once when I was working at a gas station while they were supporting "today's Empire, Tomorrow's Ashes" and didn't get to go to the show because I was working, super sweet guys. most of the books on my shelf were cited in their liner notes, and don cherry is an idiot, lol
also being a hockey fan is almost mandatory up here
Wish these guys would come to South Africa!! :(
I've always liked Propagandhi since I heard them in the mid to late 90s. I don't agree with all their politics but the music is always pretty raw. There's some stuff I agree with and some stuff I don't. I still really like the band and appreciate their music.
