At first I thought Mr. Greg was a 22-minute episode. It felt so grand and special, and so much longer than other episodes. I was so surprised when I realised it was ONLY 11 MINUTES.

I absolutely love how well they hid one of if not the biggest twist in the entire series behind what sounded like a filler episode from the description.
Steven sure did help Pearl find her phone.
Wasn't great for me. I saw the description on the TV guide when the episode came out and I SKIPPED IT! Thinking it would just be a filler episode.

While I love randomness and the unique scenarios that it can create, I just wish the glue holding it together was a bit different. if that makes sense

aside from my view that this entire fandom is too hard on amethyst and holds her worst moment against her while letting the worst moments of the other gems slide (I would argue Pearl yelling at Steven that he didn't know his mom then seeing him holding onto an edge and not helping is pretty bad too), I think the list is pretty solid
As a person who love Lars as a character, you're not supposed to like him for most of the show. We are supposed to root for him to evolve and become decent.

I have to say, GOD I loved Bismuth and Made of Honor. Arguably two of the best episodes in the series. The question is “how can you redeem a character that literally tried to shatter Steven” AND BISMUTH (the character) ADDRESSES THAT DIRECTLY IN MADE OF HONOR ITS SO GOOD
Also unrelated, but DAMN Bismuth can sing. Her part alone is worth listening to Who We Are.
"Now we're only falling apart" should've been higher, like q lot higher. It gives so much to everyone's character

AUDIBLY GASPED at the placement of 'the test'. One of my favorite episode endings in the entire show, and as a kid i really liked the personality in the different rooms. Its such a good but sad character moment for Steven, and so real for the gems. Easily in a T20 for me.
Also shocked at the high placement of 'your mother and mine': probably a big difference between watching live vs viewing later. At the time it felt like a recap episode that was trying not to be (by getting some key details wrong). Easy skip, the first 3 minutes of the SU movie do it better.

the line in volleyball “how did you stop hurting” “i didnt” really really hit home. it reminds me of a person who is fighting themself trying to convince themself that everything is fine, but then coming to terms with the trauma theyve endured and finally accepting it as a part of them instead of trying to deny it ever happened. volleyball is probably my favorite episode in the series because of that

This was super well done! I’m impressed with how you’ve managed to do great mini-reviews without spoiling any of the major plot twists.
It’s interesting to see how your opinions impacts your rankings. For instance, I actually think Jamie is a super fun character, so wouldn’t have put his episodes that low. (None of his episodes are top twenty material or anything, but they’re easily better than any Onion focused episode in my book.)
I’ll have to make my own list of favorite episodes soon. My taste can be pretty unique, so I’d put “Steven and the Stevens” somewhere in the top 25 because I think it’s hilarious.
A good watch overall. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I think most fans have that one episode that really grabs them that isn't necessarily the most critically acclaimed. I'll always think an episode with Jamie and the gems could've been fun

I was anticipating that mr Greg was one of the top tier ones and I got more exited and exited as you kept going and it wasn’t mentioned. I seriously thought I missed it because I didn’t think it would be that high up. It was the first su episode I showed my friends and they didn’t seem to interested and one said it was boring so I thought it was just me who liked it. It’s my absolute favorite so much that I went absolute ape shit when you said hey shake a leg. IT HAS LIKE 6 SONGS AND THEY ARE SO GOOD OMG.

@Eliman8 Looking back, that's one of the biggest problems I have with this video. I went into each episode with the mindset of "why isn't this number 1" which led everything to be more negative than I was intending.
Island Adventure being one of the lowest episodes is CRIMINAL. IT IS LIKE TOP 3 FOR ME 😭
Edit: These rankings make me want to kill myself. Beach City Drift, Keystone Motel, Three Gems and a Baby, and Full Disclose are so good bro😢
island adventure is a great episode until the ending. ending ruins it for me
your "The Test" placement is a human rights violation but its mostly all forgiven for putting Change Your Mind at 6. Such underrated masterpiece of a finale
mr greg isnt a filler, to me it feels like in one episode pearl had her whole character development, which i absolutely love

Tbh i wouldn't say that the test episode is a waste of time. It really dives into the gems struggle raising Steven while showing Stevens understanding that they just want the best for him and to raise him well. In my opinion of course.

Tbf, it was rushed bc it was cancelled. I heard WD’s redemption was supposed to take an entire season. All CN did was shorted S5’s episode (giving them only 28-29 and making it only 44 minutes). I think you should appreciate it for what it did, instead of what it wasn’t able to do, because unlike most “bad” episodes, it wasn’t their choice.
@@xempororhxppyxI don’t know if that really makes sense. Yeah, Cartoon Network was going to end Steven Universe at Five seasons, but then they approved the Movie and 26 more episodes. Five or six of those 26 were used to conclude season five and the rest of them became Steven Universe: Future. So if they really wanted to explore White Diamond in greater detail they easily could’ve used Change Your Mind, the Movie, and a great deal of the epilogue series to do so.

26:52 I thought that was hilarious how one of the most important episodes of the series was so insignificant sounding.
I just love the trial episode, i basically remember word for word, frame by frame (well not really) the whole episode.
This video reminded me why I love this show so goddamn much.
Before jailbreak, it should have been obvious that Garnet was a fusion because she literally has two gems in her hands because only fusions have more than one gem and that's why it was so obvious.
I DO think that 'on the run' has a very important message and the first time we get to understand amythest on a deeper level

I absolutly adore "That will be all" really the whole human zoo arch, its been my favroute since childhood and I just love it so much definatly top 3 for me, maybe my favroute BUT THERE ALL SO GOOD!
My favourite is ocean gem. I have way too much sentimental attachment to the episode, but the visuals were astoundingly gorgeous, lapis is a relatable character, and the fight scene was immaculate. Although, why didn't lapis use more water to just push them away? She's controlling the entire ocean. But the ending was also very wholesome, and a nice way to round out the episode. And when Steven healed lapis' gem, I knew that, even if I wasn't enjoying season 1a thus far, I had to stick around to see where the show went. And I'm so glad I kept watching this wonderful show. What a watch.

The fact that the writers of this kids show had the nerve to include dialogue in which someone who escaped an abusive relationship talks about how she misses it and hates the fact that she misses it is honestly impressive. Thats very dark for a kids show

even all of the other episodes that are really low are still really good because they do expand on the characters! i just have to keep them on my second screen instead of watching them super intently....
I'm so glad onion gang was like third from the worst. It is my number one most despised episode, but I never see anyone talk about it. The worst filler imaginable when my tolerance for such episodes were an absolute low and I never understood why Steven thought the kids were actually hurt or dead or whatever. Like, what? Why? How? Also I never liked Onion. He's as big of a jerk as Lars and Ranaldo but it's never acknowledged.

I feel like why I don't like future as much as og SU is the fact it's just so steven-centric. The main show (granted, it had a lot more time) did a great job of developing all the characters in a consistent and similarly paced manner. Future is so based on Steven and how he's coping with what's happened to him (a great concept executed not as well as people may have liked) that all the other gems become essential background characters- they're just completely stopped development-wise so episodes like volleyball are amazing, but still feel so out of place

I just have to all the way disagree on the mr greg episode. While I loved everything about it EXCEPT Pearl and greg conversation being so short. It was such a build up that they have some sort of tension between them it was just addressed and moved on. I know greg really didn’t hate pearl but I think pearl could of had more resistance to seeing his perspective and where she was wrong for holding so much animosity. Especially since it took her so long to move on from rose. I’m not saying drag it out but I would of loved a more deeper conversation personally.
